First Birthday Ideas

Looking for ideas for a "theme" for my baby's first birthday party. I am thinking about polka-dots. I found this cute tutu covered with little balls, going with the polka dot theme, but have not decided yet.

Kangaroodle :: Dressing :: Tutus & Dress-Up :: Punky Polka Dot Tutu

What did you do for your baby's first?

We didn't really have any themes for any of the kids first bdays, the only we did different for the fist birthday, is we got a regular birthday cake, and then a seperate small birthday cake, and just let the kids go to town, some of my favorite pic of the kids are of them covered in the birthday cake.....

I do think the polka dots are super cute!

We didn't really do anything particular. I always made the kids cakes. One year I made a Barney cake.

I agree wholeheartedly. The birthday child doesn't realize what's going on, the celebration is for the adults.

Of course it is, it is just an opportunity to have friends over and have fun. I know I will enjoy doing a cute party and dressing her up. She will just be all about the cake!

I am not going to be spending a ton of money. I am going to make the cake myself. If I go with polka dots I am going to make small sugar cookies and frost them with different colors and stick them on the cake's frosting.

Paper plates and cups in line with the theme.
Food.
Maybe some silly kids games like Pin the Tail and the Cotton Ball relay.
Nothing too crazy, just a fun afternoon.

For my children's first birthday we used the '1st Birthday' themed stuff at Party City. I went to a 1st birthday party recently and they had all the guests line up with the baby about 10 ft away facing the line. The winner was whoever could get the baby to come to them and let them pick him up. It was hilarious! People do the silliest things to try to et the baby to prefer them and the baby hanged his mind so often *giggle*

Enjoy yourself!! It only happens once!

We never really did a theme. We did do something that is a tradition in my family. We had 2 cakes, one to eat and the other is for the birthday baby. We stripped baby down to the diaper and set baby and cake on top of the table and watched what happened!! My daughter dug right in, hands, feets and face. My son wanted nothing to do with it. I stuck his hand in the frosting to see what he would do, he FREAKED out. He just wanted down and wanted his hand cleaned off. We have great pictures from both parties.

We just did the separate cake for baby for all 3 of ours.. they all had fun! The middle child got a Publix cake and ... never again. Their frosting was SO hard to wash off the high chair!

LOL, you're right, I guess I do. I think it is because of the tutu!! And I didn't really want to do a "character."

Teletubbies were big when my daughter turned 1 so I ordered a TT cake for her. I printed out a picture of her face in the baby sun and stuck that on a toothpick and put it on the cake. LOL I also found a TT iron on and made her a shirt to wear. I think I had some 1st birthday paper plates and bib. We just invited family over and hung out and had cake and ice cream. She opened some of the gifts, too.

For my son's 1st birthday we reserved the great room at the senior apartment complex my dad lived at and just invited family to get together and have cake and ice cream. I think I had gotten him a cake with trucks on it. We used the 1st birthday plates and stuff.
