Share your lesser-known tips and "Aha" momemts

DS2 came up with something a few weeks ago, that I felt like "Gee, why didn't we think of that?".

In filling the coffee pot, we always dribbled water on the counter or some leaked out somehow.
DS2 just scooted the pot over a bit toward the sink and pulled the nozzle out of the sink faucet and Voila! we can just fill from the faucet directly into the coffeepot with no spills. Why didn't we think of that all these years?

Do you have any "Aha" moments or tips to share that might save the rest of us some time, money, messes, etc?

When washing/drying jeans I always had to run my dryer twice to make sure they all were dry. I found out if only I "shook" each pair of jeans right from the washing machine before putting in the dryer they dry much faster...wish I had thought of that 15 years ago.

Don't let people know that you are capable of anything because then they will take advantage of you. Better to play dumb.

LOL.

I'm feeling whiny.

When you tweeze your eyebrows, frown (pull your eyebrows together) rather than puling the tweezers away. It'll hurt less, and be less likely to slip.

Having a tough time opening that lid on the jar? Can't find your handy gripper that you usually use? Just take any heavy object like a can opener and bang it on a few sides on the lid of the jar.Now your lid will screw off with ease.

When drying towels or whites (anything that won't catch lint), I always put a dry towel in the dryer with the wet towels. (Beach towels work really well). Your clothes/towels will dry much faster and therefore, you'll save money!

I pour Mr. Clean or Lysol in my toilet scrubber in the holder and swish the toilet bowl every morning. That way we always have a clean toilet.

I keep a spray bottle of window cleaner in the bathroom and a roll of paper towels so when DH and I are both finished in the bathroom in the morning, I can spray the mirrors and the sinks and wipe them down. All of it takes only a minute or so.

I keep two magazine holders -- one for MY magazines and one for DH's magazines. That way, when he needs one of his, he doesn't have to say 'where's my magazine'. It's right there in his magazine holder.

Put a tiny bit of salt in your coffee grounds before you brew it. It takes away the bitterness.

I always take a bag of things with me when I go out, i.e., book, paper, pen, and if I'm stuck in traffic or waiting in a doctor's office or just waiting for someone, I can catch up on writing to someone, grocery list or reading.

I keep a $1.00 magnetic long memo pad (Dollar Tree) on the refrigerator and when I run out of something or running low, I put it on my memo pad. That way, my grocery list is already made when I'm ready to go to the grocery store.

Buy some of the cheap plastic containers(with lids). I use them for putting different flours, sugar, brown sugar, confectionary sugar, etc. in them. I put a piece of transparent tape on each cannister and write what is in it. That way everything is right in place and all I have to do is grab what I need.

Turn your 2-liter soft drink bottles upside down after opening them. The fizz won't go out of them and they'll stay fresh. You'll have to prop them up against something where you store them, but it works!

Keep the baby carrots, yogurt, raisins, etc. on the lowest shelf in the fridge - then the kids can view/access those "healthy" snacks. We've moved the junky chips and crackers to a high cupboard out of the kids' line of vision.

so, you have 2 eggs and need 3 for that cake you need to bake? Neighbor not home to bum an egg? LOL...this actually happened to me...
Change out that egg with a size 1 or 2 banana puree or just substitute 1 banana...mashed...
Yes, you will notice a banana aroma but honestly, nobody else will and they can't taste a difference either! Think of it...more potassium and no cholesterol
Actually I think it made the cake more moist and people asked for seconds...lol!!

Burn relief

If you get a burn put coca cola on it. If it is a large burn put coke in a bowl and submerge it (like a hand).
This relieves the pain and prevents redness and blistering.
One of my coworkers grabbed a hot pipe from the dryer and got severly burned on the hand and had yellow blisters. She put her hand in a bowl of coke and it took the pain out and the heat alsothe blistering subsided and she was better in a day or two.
This stuff works like a miracle.
The coke does not have to be cold to work just grab one off the shelf and use it.

I've never heard of this but will probably try it the next time I start to pull a pan out of the oven and "forget" to grab a hot pad. I've done this more than once, but you'd think I'd remember after the first time.

I run the spin cycle on the washer a second time. That gets more water out of the clothes and they aren't in the dryer as long, that saves a little money.
use vinegar as fabric softener on towels and white clothes. I only use downy on dark clothes, that helps take off the lint.
