Winter is here again - ice is covering everything!

Well winter has yet again shown up - after it being 55 degrees this past Saturday, this morning we got up to a little snow and a layer of ice on everything outside! Woo hoo - baking today! Called the boss and told him I wasn't coming in! I am in Dubois, Indiana - the southwestern part of Indiana.

Don't fall on your butt! I went out to fill the bird feeders (that were iced over so the bird food went on the ground) and got the mail and about fell on my butt BIG TIME! Yep it's pretty but weighing down my evergreen bush/tree. I hope it's okay.

Well it's 2:20pm and it is still slick as snot... I didn't fall, but the truck going down my country road about took out one of my big pine trees.

Another day of snow and ice. No school again. We are on a level 2 emergency.

Ive watched crazy drivers wreck for 2 days now. Will they ever learn that it is bad out and to slow down?

You would think being a Maine native, that I would be use to winter weather. I feel like it has been snowing and cold since November. They have really done a great job about not calling school off this year because of the weather, but today they caved...the roads were just too bad. I don't ever remember a winter like this one. Its been one storm after another....I think we are all dreaming of a sunny day at the beach..

Our school district NEVER cancels school. We may get a 2 hour delay at times. I do know we have a lot of walkers that go to my middle school. The grade schools have consolidated and they have buses now. The high school has walkers. But when we have a level 2 emergency they have to cancel. If we were not at the level, and the roads were still bad, we would have school.

We really have not had a bad winter for about 6 years now. Last big storm we received about 18 inches. Everything was closed. My kids were stuck at their dads for 5 days. talk about a bummer...... All they did was call me and complain.

Well....I was just skimming this and somehow missed the evergreen bush/tree part. I went right from *fell on my butt* to *I hope it's okay*.

I hope your butt's OK too!

The roads have to be bad before they cancel here in Central Maine. They did cancel today because we are getting about 8 inches of snow, then it is going to change to freezing rain. We had school all last week, despite snow almost everyday. They usually won't cancel for a small amount of snow (under 6 inches). Todays snowday will have to be made up at the end of the school year. We have three town that attend our High School, so the buses do have to travel a good distance with the students, but despite that....they do not cancel very often.

Hey you guys may know an answer to my problem. I was just headed out to the store for some Theraflu. My 16 year old is sick again. Anyways, my car doors are froze and won't open. Yesterday only 1 was frozen but it thawed after the heat ran a while. But I can't get any open today. Plus I'm outta Coke and I need some especially with these kids home!!

Any ideas how to get them to open?

You can pour some warm water over them. Just be sure to take an old towel with you and dry the edges and gaskets really well....or you'll just create another problem! Good luck!

Maybe you should pick up one of those "de-icer" sprays while you are at the store.

You can also spray WD40 in the locks after you use the warm water to thaw them out.

Finally got in. I sent my 13 year old out with warm water. It finally came open with him doing a little prying. Thanks for the suggestions.
