I use godaddy for my URL purchases and I use techallstars.com for my hosting. They are GREAT! I have 4 sites running with one hosting account (I believe you can do up to 3 URLs with one hosting account...share the space). I spend around $230 a year on hosting for my sites. It's a pretty high plan....my sites are retail sites so lots of pics and traffic and I've never had a problem.
If you are making your own site and it's online commerce, I would recommend using
free, open source shopping cart software from Zen Cart as your OS platform. LOTS of help on their forums and although I didn't have any formal web development training, I was able to do my site just fine (PM me and I can send you the URL). It includes a shopping cart and search engine feature as well as paypal and authorize.net capability.
If you are having a more informational/personal site, you can use
PostNuke CMS :: A Flexible Open Source Content Management System as your OS platform. I have site up with that as well. Both platforms are free and have add ons to customize that are free. There are also add ons at a cost from various sources. I did mine the free way
