Cool Odd Question-------Cat Carriers

What did Cat Carriers look like the 1940's? Anyone have ANY idea?

I have looked in several places and have calls into theatres who have done The Diary of Anne Frank before but have not got any calls back as of yet.

I don't know, but I would think they would've been wicker, maybe looking something like a large picnic basket, opening on the top.

We had one that was from a bit later - was a grey rectangular box shape, and had a clear "plastic" dome on top with the handle. The plastic was old-style, opaque mostly but sorta see through (very blurry).

However, when in doubt - I'd go for the wicker basket with lid and handle ala Toto from the Wizard of Oz

When I was growing up we had one from the 50's, it was solid black, with two oblong holes at either end and some smaller round holes on the sides for ventilation, it seemed very "closed in" compared to the ones they make nowadays. It was flat on the bottom, but curved around on the top, sort of looked like a round tube, but flat on bottom and at the ends. The end that opened, came open from the top and the whole front layed down. I don't know if that's how they were all made or if we had to have a special kind to ship our cat to Hawaii and back when we were stationed there for 3 years. I know it had to have my dads name and rank painted on it for shipping.

My husband's parents had this same one! And when we got our first cats, over 30 years ago, it became ours. We still use it! It certainly lasted, lol

I still use my grandmothers cat carrier. I don't know how old it is. It is dome shape with a plywood bottom, ends and 4 inches up the sides. The top/dome is made out of wire mesh. It has a metal handle attached to a piece of wood screwed through the mesh. The door is cut out of the plywood side and has hinges and a metal clasp to latch the door. With a cat in it, it is quite heavy!
