Anyone Watching American Idol and Noticing the Disrespect?

Is it just me or is anyone else noticing the disrespect by the contestants and Ryan Secrest?

Is it the 'me, me, me' generation of feeling they should not be given any type of advice after they've sung -- that they are all just wonderful and 'how dare you' attitude of telling me what I might be doing wrong?

And I've noticed this year that Ryan is rude, too, in that at the end of the show he'll say the judges' names, Randy and Paula, and purposely leave out Simon. I think Simon has been nice this year and has given these kids good advice. Last night after Simon gave one singer some good advice, the singer said something like "well, you're not the one voting, it's the callers" (or something like that). And Simon said "I think I know how this show is run". It's like 'hello, kids, these three judges are the ones who put you as far as you've gotten.'

To me, a lot of these kids act like spoiled little brats. They're certainly not getting my votes with their eye rolling or closing their eyes and their backtalk while the judges are giving them advice.

Simon has been pretty rough and the kids are responding in kind. I'm sure it's tough to hear, but I think it will reflect better on them if they take the input with some grace....

I really enjoyed all three Davids - Archuleta and Hernandez and Cook - nice performances!

I noticed also but was wondering if they were doing it on purpose -if some more disputing between judges/contestants/host will spice it up?

I did notice. I know Simon can be an Ass, but he's PAID to do so. I don't like the blatant rudeness on their part. They must have forgotten what happened w/ Justin Guarini...

I love the young David (David A., I believe). He is as cute as a button and so humble. I would like to see him go far.

Yes, the "jabs" that Ryan gives Simon are getting old.

The problem is that Ryan "thinks" he is funny, when it just shows how much of an a$$ he is.

Perosnally, my two favorite contestants this years aren't even American...Carly and Michael Johns!!

EXACTLY! He really irritates me.

You know Simon gets a lot of flack, but when it comes to the judging it's his opinion that the contestants really hang on. Good or bad, it's honest and I think this year he has been exceptionally kind with negative comments.

From the boys I'm loving David Archuleta, the 17yr old and Jason Castro, the dred locks boy.

From the girls I also like Carley Smithson, the Irish girl and Amanda Overmeyer, the one with black hair with white stripes that sounds like Janis Joplin. I'm disappointed in the girls this season. Hope they step-it-up tonight.

I read an article about the whole Ryan/Simon thing. They are really very good friends and the whole thing is just show banter. Its all an attention getter for the show.

Well, I think Carly is a pretty good singer---but not great. Also, I don't think it is quite fair for her to be on this show considering that she has already had a record contract; the label spent $2 million dollars on her and she sold 350 albums. Then the label apparently went out of business. But, to me, she has already had her hand up and this AI should go to someone else. I do think that the viewers will also hold this against her and she will probably not make it to the finals.

That young man(?) is such a brat........I can't wait until he leaves. I thought Simon handled it well because Simon is his elder and he should have been more respectful. That kid has such a 'tude!

Well, Kelly Clarkson, Bo Bice, Taylor Hicks all had previous record deals before joining Idol. David A. from this year.... previously won a singing competition on broad casted show on CBS when he was eleven, Robbie C. use to belong to a pop group that toured with Britney Spears. Most contestants are not totally under discovered, I don't know why Carly is getting so much flack for this. Most of the contestants wouldn't be considered amateurs, they have gotten paid for their craft. She is not breaking any rules, plus that contract was from when she was a teenager, I think she will go a looooong way in the competition.

Kelly Clarkson didn't have a record contract before American Idol. She recorded a couple demos, but had no contract. Anyone can record a demo really if you have a computer or money for studio time.

I'm not sure about Bo Bice or Taylor Hicks.

The girls did 100% better last night. Except my girl with the black hair and white stripes.

The girl who sang "You're So Vain"...the judges praised her up and down and I really thought she missed those low notes. Or is it just me?

According to Idol producer Simon Lythgoe, Kelly did have a previous contract.

"This is something that comes up for some reason every year," said Lythgoe. "This year [it is], 'Oh, they're all professionals!' Kelly Clarkson had [previously had] a contract [before Idol]. From Year 1, all we say is you've got to be out of contract now. But every year there's been somebody that's had a professional contract or even had an album out there. So no it doesn't bother us in the slightest."

Most of the time I just wish the contestants would listen to what Simon has to say.....To me out of the three judges he's the only who gives them something to work on......Every once in a while Randy with give constructive criticism, but not often, and Paula, well let's just say thank goodness for Tivo, I fast forward through her comments anymore.

ya i agree with you. what simon says is really raw so i can see how it can cut to the bone with the contestants, but they do need to take his advice. he knows what he's talking about. he isnt trying to be cruel, but to help them better themselves for the competition.

i AM really sad that they cut Josiah Leming though so early in the competition. i think he shoulda made it to the top 24 because if you go to youtube and watch and listen to some of his personal videos he can really write a great song and he is a wiz at the piano and he really does sound amazing with his style of music. he writes a better song than almost ALL of the artists in the top 40

I guess I'm an old softy, because I'm so happy that she's there to help these kids through by finding something good about everyone.....I appreciate what she's trying to do. She was a little tougher in the tryouts though...

I think for me what bothers me about Paula is that she seems to ramble when she speaks......and she repeats herself quite a bit, I do like that she always says something nice to each contestant, they do need that, but I think her rambling has gotten worse as the seasons have gone on.......

Was anybody surprised by those that were let go last night?

I did not watch the girls so can't comment, but if it were my show , I'd have kept Robbie over the guy who sang the Queen song (Luke?)....he seems like a cruise/karoake singer to me - just real cheesy.

Paula is so much better so far this year than she has been. I hope she is on the road to recovery.

I was glad to see that the kid who answered Simon back DID NOT get cut last night although I expect that he will shortly since his talent isn't as strong as the others. I am at the end of my patience with Simon. His rude act is more annoying to me than Randy's DAWG and Paula's WHATEVER.

I find myself just muting the TV when the kid finishes singing because the three of them are just getting old

I agree. She just doesn't sound good to me. At the audition phase, I thought that she sounded better and so much different than the others. I knew she would be selected because of the fact that she is a different kind of singer than the others. What is obvious now, is that she is not versatile at all, and can only sing in a very limited range. I can't see her going much further.

I personally like Simon and Ryan. The banter is mostly written to help with ratings. I think it's funny.
As far as the singers go, I think some of them are biting the hand that feeds them.

I really have enjoyed getting into the show this year. I have tivo'd it and don't get to watch it until Sat. night but we watche it last night and I wasn't surprise by who went home for the guys. For the girls it was ok but also the rocker chic should be gone.

This isn't very nice but I am a nurse and she scares me! My 11 yo DD says that she wouldn't want a nurse like the rocker chic taking care of her!
