I am turning 40 in April. I am happy. I have lived a lot longer than some people have and feel lucky that I have had 40 years of experiences.

You should be EXCiTED! My 40's were INCREDIBLE, and it only keeps getting better! I turned 50 on Dec. 30, 2007, and life is awesomel. Let's see...in my 40's I went skydiving twice, I got back the "hidden Marilou," learned so much about life, and got married to a fun, exciting guy...and I'm still learning. Since turning 50, I have welcomed in the new year in Times Square, ran a 1/2 marathon, and broken a 100mph in a friend's new TransAm...and I am enjoying time with my grandkids and wonderful friends. It all goes back to the saying...Life is what you make it! Have fun and enjoy your 40's!!!!!!!

I turned 40 in January. While I know I am 40 I certainly don't feel it. I must admit, I do not like the number.

I am turning 44 in April... I'm really loving my 40's. I think that the biggest thing is that I finally feel like I've matured and am a happy and fulfilled woman. A part of me is still searching for who I am but I really feel like I can embrace what I HAVE discovered about myself and feel proud of who I am. This didn't happen until I hit my 40's... I have always been one of those who did not want to grow up (I cried really hard when I turned 18! -- legal adult at the time!) and so this is REALLY big for me!

It really is a number... Look at the glass as half full, rather than half empty. Sorry to be cliche but it really is how you have to look at it... you have no choice as far as your age. The best years are ahead!

The 40's did not bother me. Its going to be the big 50 thats a killer!

I just found out I am going to be a grandmother of a little girl last night. Its not about the age , just how you feel.
some days I feel like I am 80 and other days 30.

I turned 40 in November and it was just another day. When I was 29, I moaned and dreaded the big 30 the entire year so when I actually turned 30 I couldn't believethat it didn't bother me. I thought 40 would bother me. But it didn't, it doesn't. Like someone else said, I really don't feel 40 but something about saying 40 sounds awful. Be happy though!

That is EXACTLY my story! I went into some sort of panic turning 29. I tried to dye my hair red, but it looked just like Frenchie from "Beauty School Drop-Out" - the rest of the year was filled with me being anxiety-ridden over the impending 3-0. Yet I had become quite peaceful about it by the actual day.

Turning 40 was not as hard at all. I'm 41 now, and I like myself better than I ever did.

You think that panic mode at 29, mellow at 30 helped prepare us to just take 40 as not a bad thing?

Funny story about your red hair, LOL!
And I agree with liking yourself more now...I too like who I am and really know myself now. Something that didn't happen until about my late 30s. Every year is more peaceful for some reason.

I turn 40 May 10th. I honesty haven't given it much thought. It's just another day to me. My sister will probably make a big deal about it since I made a big deal about her turning 50. It doesn't matter, I'm still the youngest out of my brothers and sisters and that's all that counts....being the baby and the princess....lol.

I'm 45. 40 definately bothered me. It just sounded so old to me! I just don't want life to go by so fast. Turning 40 made me realize how short life really is, figuring I have already lived half of it. Man, that bugs me! That's so depressing!!!30 really bothered me, not because I thought that was old, but because I was still single then and really wanted to have children. I thought I was getting to far along in life to be still looking for the right man. But it all worked out!
I say count your blessings, it does beat the alternative!

I am happy to be 40! Last October did it for me. My Mom passed away at 42- so for me I am so grateful to be here and healthy!!! Like others have said, despite the ups and downs, I am very happy. Still looking for Mr. Right, but it will happen in time. It's so funny to see people's faces when I tell them I'm 40 , then throw in the 17 month old baby story!!!

So sorry about your sister. I bet she would want you to enjoy the day, maybe celebrate in honor of her. I know it must be difficult though. (((HUGS)))

I WISH!!!

I will be 63 in June.
I do enjoy my life but now I am realizing that I will be getting (I hope) old someday soon.
Enjoy your forties and fifties as they are the best years.
BUT, If you are overweight or out-of-shape, do something about it NOW!
It gets harder and harder as you get older and you will really appreciate it by the time you are 60!
Age is really just an attitude, but having a healthy body will improve your attitude!!!
