Has anyone tried "green bags" for produce?

Has anyone tried the "green bags" that are being advertised to keep your produce fresh longer?

I'm tired of throwing away fruits and vegetables that have gone bad and wondered if these work?

I haven't tried those but I do have the Tupperware Fridgesmart products and am always amazed at how long produce lasts when stored in these containers.

A head of leaf lettuce lasts for weeks in one of these. Tupperware is washable and reusable for the life of the product -- not sure how many times you can reuse the green bags?

They can be pricey but a little bit less on eBay.

Maybe someone else has tried the green bags... Just wanted to say what works for us.

Funny you should ask because I just saw the ad and did a google search for opinions. People loved or hated them. Trick seems to be to store the product absolutely dry and if moisture collects in the bag to wipe it dry. They don't work for bananas at all well. Here's a link to the opinions I read

GREEN BAGS TO PRESERVE FRESHNESS : DO THEY REALLY WORK? - Cookware - Chowhound

Think I'm going to try some Tupperware as Cuthie suggested,

Geez, I just ordered and received the green bags this week, but haven't tried them yet. I am really tired of wasting soooo much produce because we just can't use it up before it goes bad.

I did a ton of research before buying the green bags and the rave reviews far outnumbered the bad so I thought I was making a good decision

I second the tupperware fridgesmarts - the are a bit expensive but really work. My son loves strawberries but the are so expensive sometimes - in these containers I have had them last weeks! Great with lettuce as well (I use the large round for that). I got over the price quickly after I saw how much less produce I was tossing away!

I have had these sitting in my cabinets for YEARS and have never used them! I am going to take them out tomorrow and wash them and put them to use. Our spinach and lettuce always go bad before we use them up, maybe this'll help!

I totally forgot why I bought them and what they were for!

The trick to the Tupperware Fridge Smarts is NOT to wash the veggies/fruit before you put them in there. Instead, wash them right before you use them. If you wash them before you put them in the Fridge Smart, they won't last as long as if you don't.

I have some and I like them ok, however I would love to find something that would keep fruits and veggies fresh after they are washed and ready to eat.

They are big (especially the lettuce round) and take up a lot of space in the fridge but they hold *healthy* stuff! As someone else mentioned, they really do pay for themselves after a few months of use and last forever. So glad that you've rediscovered them...

I do wash my produce before putting it in the fridgesmart for convenience when I need to grab a few strawberries for the kids etc... But just make sure I dry them thoroughly.

For other things - I just put them in and wash as I take them out.

My sister sells tupperware and when she first tried to sell them to me I nearly choked on the price! I bought one and once I saw how much I was saving I bought a whole set. Well worth the money - she says it is her most requested and re-ordered item.

Thanks for posting about this! I thought they seemed like a concept designed to make you spend money on something that would be a waste. Tupperware is awesome, but if you don't wash or cut produce before you store it, store it in the proper place and make sure your frig is the correct temp, your produce should have a pretty long life.

I have seen the green bags at Bed,Bath & Beyond and Rite Aid. There are 20 bags in pkg for $9.99. If you buy from tv ad you get stuck paying s&h.
