Does anyone have GPS on their car?

A friend was wondering about this for her teenager? Does anyone have it? And how expensive is it? And she doesn't wantt hem to know it's there?

I am clueless on this subject but thought someone might know here.

You mean a tracking system on the car that the teen doesnt know about and not a gps to use to find a location if he/she gets lost right?

I have it on my phone. Verizon Wireless NV. The screen is huge and it costs $10 a month. Totally worth it as I drive around the county to (unknown) peoples' homes for work. It comes in really handy however it helps if you know the area as I am sure the others can attest to (and we read in the paper about people who use it and get lost) it sometimes sends you the long convoluted way instead of the straightest most efficient way. I have gone through the next county driving down country roads only to discover when I arrive it's a few miles off the main highway, interstate or road. LOL
It really comes in handy looking for specific addresses and places. You can type in motel or restaurant or waffle house or you can type in Denny's, Target, Safeway, etc. You can type in eye doctor getting as specific or as general as you wish.
I love it frankly my husband and I travel our state a lot and we use it for finding all kinds of things from lodging and eating to tourist sights and pet friendly locations.

Yes, that's it! A tracking system to see where they are! A friends husband has it on his work truck so I wondered if they had them for cars too?

Hmmm.....kind of off topic, but I don't think I'd let my teen have a car if I felt that I needed a device like this. Not that I have perfect kids or anything, just that I start from a position of trust and when they lose it, they lose the privileges that come with it including cars and other freedoms. Am I naive? (My oldest has been pretty easy, my youngest looks to be a harder nut to crack)

Be a safety measure too, your car is stolen, you have the police at your home you can look up and see where it is.

with as many idiots walking the streets never know. In Philly there was a kid killed on his birthday cause he accidently hit a passerby with a snowball ??

Well, before I had a baby I would have agreed with you. But now I feel like it is my responsibility to protect her, even from herself. I am a long way away from this, but I can see the need. And I wouldn't necessarily say it is a trust issue, just the basic fact that kids sometimes make bad judgement calls. And may tragedies are the result of a bad judgement call. You would hate for the incident that makes them lose your trust be something you could have nipped in the bud, if you had known. For example, speeding or driving recklessly. Kids do stupid, stupid things and sometimes they, or someone else, pays for them with injuries or worse. I think these systems can track the speed the vehicle is being driven and if there is hard braking.

Look at it this way. Maybe have one and let your kid KNOW it is there. I am the first to admit that I would have been much more tempted to surf the web when I worked if I didn't know my company tracked that type of stuff. Sometimes we all need help with restraint.

Since you feel the need to judge, actually it's for my SIL who I previously posted about is going through a divorce. We think her husband is cheating so we want to know where he's going. I didn't want to drag that whole thing into the discussion and get off topic, but I see that has happened anyway.
