I have always liked him, and absolutely loved him in Dirty Dancing. I did a little reading on pancreatic cancer, and unfortunately didn't read much that was positive. Read that less than 5% of those diagnosed live more than five years. So sad for him, but pray that he beats the odds.

With the risk of getting flamed again, I will keep this light... Pancreatic Cancer is a horrible cancer. There is treatment however he may have a better chance with experiemental therapies. There are not many people who have survived this disease for longer then 2 years. It is sad to hear about someone who gave us so much joy and made many of us smile go through something like this. The treatment itself is terrible and very hard on the patient.

Dirty Dancing is my favorite movie from when I was a teenager. I still love to watch it and my husband rolls his eyes. ![]() I hope that Patrick Swayze doesn't have to suffer and can find a treatment for him to be comfortable. I hate cancer and after seeing what it did to my neighbor and the changes he went through so drastic. I really wish they could find a cure for all cancers. |

Local radio station was talking up his cigarette addiction this morning and the impact of that on his disease. They were saying something about a plane accident where he was the pilot and a contributor was carbon monoxide poisoning from smoking too much inside the cabin (and maybe alcohol....) Not sure whether that's true or not - you know how radio hosts can be when they get going. In any event, I hope Patrick will be able to quit, but suppose that it's even more difficult at a stressful time. Loved him in Dirty Dancing - and he's one of very few in Hollywood with a long, successful marriage! PATRICK SWAYZE - SWAYZE WARNED HE MUST QUIT SMOKING PATRICK SWAYZE has been ordered by his doctors to quit smoking or risk losing his battle against pancreatic cancer. Reports the Dirty Dancing star was suffering from the disease surfaced on Wednesday (05Mar08) and were later confirmed by his publicist. But the actor, who is reported to have been diagnosed with the illness in January (08), has so far failed to kick his nicotine addiction. Swayze once confessed to being such a heavy smoker, he blazed his way through more than three packs of cigarettes a day. Actor Patrick Swayze Survives in Aircraft Accident The pilot reported to investigators that he smoked about three packs of cigarettes per day. The aircraft cabin had a strong tobacco odor. The door seal, outflow valve, and safety valve exhibited dark brown tar-like deposits. The NTSB concluded that the pilot's physical impairment due to the cumulative effects of carbon monoxide from engine exhaust by-products, carbon monoxide from heavy tobacco use, and the loss of an undetermined amount of cabin pressurization. A factor in the loss of pressurization was a fractured clamp.

Wow, I didn't know that he was a heavy smoker. I think we all see him as being this incredibly fit dancer and so healthy-looking. I am not certain if the pancreatic cancer has anything to do with his smoking? Anyone know? Hope he is able to beat the odds and recover from this.
