I can't help but think some soldiers purposely pull bad stunts like this in hopes to get kicked out of the army so they can come home.I can only imagine how living in Iraq has corrupted some of these young mens minds.

If the video is legitimate (there is speculation that it was a stuffed dog, with added sound effects--I don't know, I couldn't tell when I watched), this this individual should be court-martialed and dishonorably discharged from the Corp.

He in no way represents anything remotely related to being a Marine!

From some articles that I have read, the family of the suspected individual, is being harassed and threatened. That is just horrible as well. He's an adult, and made this decision on his own. Leave his family alone.

It's horrible if the puppy was alive - Makes you wonder...if they've seen so much death that they've become hardened to it. Regardless, it's a horrible thing, if it's true (a living puppy)

I haven't watched it, and won't. If is truly is a Marine throwing a live puppy off a cliff, then he should be in jail. Also curious who was holding the videocamera. Did he have it propped up, or did he have company?

My only other thought is why is this generating so much more national interest than the Marines in Japan accused of rape? There is a case involving several Marines raping a 19 yr old, and more recently, a Marine arrested for raping a 14 yr old.

I don't mean to minimize in any way the horror of the Marine and the puppy, it just is curious to me that the outcry seems to be so much louder over this than the rapes of women and children by our soldiers.

If the rapes had been taped, or otherwise visually reported, they'd probably be getting a lot more attention. Recording crimes -- and putting the evidence where people can get it -- is incredibly stupid, but it's not usually the brightest people who become criminals. Am not watching the video, I'm consciously limiting my exposure to upsetting things right now.

You're absolutely correct, his family didn't make him do this.

But...that young man should be VERY happy that I'm not his Mother. I would be ON. MY. WAY. out there and NOT for a happy visit.

Personally, I think this video is fake. I've seen lots of photos of dogs that troops have "adopted" in Iraq & A-stan, and this puppy looks awfully pristine (cleanliness, coat, etc) compared to those photos.

I saw it on Nancy Grace last night. She didn't show the entire video. She had someone from PETA on there who said the reason the puppy wasn't moving was because when a puppy is picked up by the neck like shown on the video, they basically go limp and don't move. Of course, if it is a real puppy, it was probably scared out of its wits, too. If this is a real video, it makes me wonder what they did to the poor thing before he tossed it over the rocky cliff. I'm hoping it's a fake video. But right now, it sure looks like it's the real thing.

If it is real, just because these guys were in Iraq doesn't excuse them from this horrible behaviour. I've read and seen so many stories of soldiers who have adopted stray dogs and kept them as pets and even had them shipped back over to the States to their families.

If it is real, I hope both of the guys in the video are prosecuted.

I don't care what the final outcome is...even joking about throwing a puppy over a cliff is sick sick sick. The puppy definitely was not a stuffed animal. You can tell in the video that it's real.

I wish someone would throw that Marine over a cliff along with the guy taping who was smiling and having a good old time while watching this...and then his only response "aw that's mean."

makes my stomach turn

The whole thing is disgusting, and the Marine who did it should be dishonorably discharged.

I personally feel the video is real and I think it is sick. Why not just leave the dog alone, ignore it or whatever?

From what I have read, the speculation about it being fake is from the sound of the dog's yelps. They do not fade as they should if the dog were thrown and moving away from the camera. Also, those who speculate it is fake is because the puppy doesn't move.

I can't tell from the one time I viewed it. And quite frankly haven't the stomach to watch it again and again to pick it apart and find the "flaws" in it. Know what I mean?

I did not watch the video.

The video that valorian provided a link for offered one possible take on it.

Another is that young people do stupid, crazy things sometimes.... they might have thought it was funny to pitch a stuffed animal and make yelping noises.

Not the same thing at all, but we had a bunch of grown men at work that build rocket launchers and did competitive spud launches.....guys can be weird.

I guess I'd like to believe it was not a real animal and just some kind of stupid, sick joke.

Here is the actual video.
It looks real to me. The sound of the dog hitting the ground below sounded too heavy to be a stuffed animal.

Well, either you or your bambino can't spell! The "core", is spelled CORPS. Anyone who knows anything about USMC knows that. Me thinks that you aren't the proud American you claim to be
