Constantly Amazed!

I am constantly amazed at posters who can remember what other's have said on these boards! I guess that I just don't pay attention to who says what, thus I don't associate certain statements with a specific poster! The exception to that was a long ago poster on here who was an unfit mother and posted about what went on with her children. Her behaviour and neglect of the children almost cost one child his life--and she posted about it. I guess that's the one time I really paid any attention to a particular poster and what was said.

What amazes you about internet message boards?

I am constantly amazed at how people on internet boards who claim to know-it-all have no data retention and/or short-term memory whatsoever.

It amazes me that some people post comments just to get a rise out of other people.

Seriously? It amazes me that some people can recall postings from an internet message board and who specifically posted it! I guess I just don't look at the who, just the content. And I certainly don't store specific post away in my memory to bring up in a completely unrelated topic.

Now, I have excellent data retention and short-term memory when it's something important and valuable to me. I have over 100 claims (related to my job) and I can pretty much tell you whatever you want to know about the claim if you give me the claimants name. I guess it's just where you place your priorities.

I am always amazed at how much personal information people will post for all to see. I have seen people list their names, addresses, emails, kids name, etc.. It is one thing to share stories but quite another to put all your info out on the internet like that. That said, people probably think I post too much personal info LOL

I am amazed at how many members continue to whine and bicker over a internet board. How many member go to back posts and bring them up. I am amazed at how many members have a M.D. or P.H.D. ESQ, L.P.A. after their names. I am amazed at how many members are so brilliant that they are better then others. I am just amazed how degrading some members can be. And yet so many members claim that they have made some very good friends on these boards. I am just amazed!

I am constantly amazed at the vast quantities of expertise in hundreds of subjects claimed by some posters.

I am constantly amazed at the ongoing need to put people in their place. And the energy expended in attempting to do so.

I am constantly amazed at the need to hijack threads posted by people needing help and support, and the assumption that nobody is bright enough to keep in perspective the fact that advice given on an internet message board may not necessarily be accurate, sensible, legal and/or pertinent to their situation.

I am constantly amazed at the kindness of some people, the outpouring of prayers and support for those who need them, and the ability of a bunch of strangers to lift up someone's life when they are struggling.

I Agree 100 percent with what momshops just said about the kindness and thoughts and prayers. i still get an occasional pm with someone telling me they still think of me and my son and it chokes me up to know that people really do care.

I will occasionally look up someone's history to see if the impression I'm getting from a current post is right, but I'm pretty non-evil about it. So, just remember that good memories may be just the ability to use the search function.

The kindness amazes me too, as do some persistent trolls. Is it wrong to be almost impressed that someone would have the dedication to keep up such an odd cause? All I can assume is that a couple of people have alter egos, since it seems like a lot more fun just to stick with standard posts.

It amazes me how some people on boards think they're the expert at everything and everyone else is an idiot who doesn't agree with them, i.e., 'I'm not a real doctor; I just play one on message boards, so you'd better agree with ME'!

It amazes me that someone will start a thread just to see what type of argument will come out of it (although they probably already KNOW an argument will come out of it).

It amazes me that some in certain 'fields of expert knowledge' seem to think that they know everything about a subject and will actually call another person silly little names because they obviously don't have the maturity to act their age.

And I agree with another poster who said that it amazes her that there are so many thoughtful people on these boards when someone else is having a problem, even though they don't know them, that prayers and good wishes are sent their way.

And I guess what will amaze me the most is if this thread DOESN'T go to the 'acohol baths' discussion, because we all know this is where this thread is coming from and probably referring to!!

Actually, I'd take a small wager that since the subject was amazement that people remember posts from other threads, that monk....i mean, marilynk, got my OCDs confused there for a minute....started this note because of the panty (or lack therof) in a wad reference. The motivation/trigger is very thinly veiled.

It's not that hard really. You don't have to just recall anything, any message board I've been a part of has had a search function in some form.

I always look at the "who". I think it's just a habit, like looking at someone before speaking to them or while listening. I've been glad at times, because I might remember a bit of information I wanted - a recipe, a tip on home waxing, a website for something I wanted - and I can remember the PERSON that posted it easier than I can the CONTENT. I search for their name, read their posts and saves me a bunch of time.

Search functions are handy, I guess it's all about intent.

I'm amazed by some other things too, some good, some bad.

I agree with you completely, Ambrianna. On the internet or IRL, it seems only polite or thoughtful to associate the words with the person who spoke or wrote them. Usually, one would use this association in a positive way - how's your son doing? did you get your mortgage approved?, etc. - sometimes it's negative though.

I don't remember exactly who says what to who (except in extreme circumstances), but I do remember who is rude, nasty, thinks they know everything, who has the same problems over and over that type thing. I do think of these certain things whenever I see certain posters.

I guess I should also add that certain posters names also bring thoughts of nice, supportive, smart, sensible, so it's not just all bad things that come to mind.

It amazes me that some posters "forget" things they posted on other boards, and then get on this one spouting of there wonderful parenting skills. (not referring to any posts on TLJ, just in case anyone was wondering)

It amazes me how a poster can CLEARLY be involved behind the scenes, yet, not many seem to pick up on this, and think this poster is so wonderful.

It amazes me how mean spirited some people can be, just because.

It amazes me how some people just continue on and on and on and on and onnnnnnnnnnnnnnn with something. Let it go already!!!

It amazes me the things that people say to total strangers.

It amazes me how I can have such good friendships with virtual strangers.

It amazes me how so many seem to want to pick at MarilynK (and others). I guess since I got to "know" her on a different board, I have more respect for her than to want to berate her.

I know that some on here think I'm a know it all--and probably don't like me. That's ok--their opinion of me is but a speck of sand on the beach. I realize that I probably do come across as a know it all--but, I have a multitude of experience(took me a while to find "the" career), I read A LOT, and I research stuff just for fun. So, if that makes me a know it all, so be it.

I'm not being passive aggressive at all--it really does amaze me that some people can remember who posted what on such a frequent basis. And as to the search function--I only use that on the cooking board to find a recipe that I saw, but can't find now. I have no inclination to look up a person's post for any reason.

I am guilty of being very blunt and in your face. That's part of my job, and it carries over into my "personal" life as well. I don't make apologies for it. You can either handle a blunt comment or you can't. You can either handle the fact that when I call a person out for posting something that is harmful, or you can't...So be it. I don't have time, energy or inclination to sugar coat what I say, just to make virtual strangers (with the exception of a few) have warm and snuggly feelings about me.

so, my ride is here, and I'm going home to have some dinner and drinks. May all of you find happiness in yourself and be comfortable with who you are. I am!

MarilynK,

You don't have the time or energy to sugar coat. However, you certainly have put a lot of time and energy into your many negative posts. There is a way to say something and way not to. Why do you feel a need to be so mean? Your cruel comments are just vicious.. I appreciate the opinions on this board, but must you be so brash, so caustic, so nasty in the way you phrase your opinions. Life's too short for such meanness.

I'm amazed that until I read today's food section in the newspaper I never heard of a 'bacon bowl' in my life. Yes, a whole bowl made out of bacon. It sounds soooo good yet I am soooooo grossed out by it, at the same time

Judi, I've learned the hard way that no one can please all the people all the time - ESPECIALLY on a message board. It's better to just be yourself, whether that's someone who's blunt, or very passive, or coddling, or whatever than to try and conform for the rest of the gang.

You see MarilynK as being rude and mean. I see her as being blunt and simply telling it like SHE sees it. I don't always agree w/ her but that's ok too (it's not her fault she supports Hilary, lol). If she suddenly changed and started coddling everyone, wouldn't she then be accused of being two faced by members? Every message board eventually ends up w/ someone being attacked for some reason, and usually the person attacking thinks they're right. Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't.

Can I ask why you don't just place her on ignore if she bothers you so much? That's what I do when I don't like someone and it makes reading a lot easier and it doesn't hurt the person who's on ignore.

I am amazed that I am reading this board so early in the morning.

I am amazed that people are jumping marilynk for being rude, I use to think she was negative in a way but I started looking further into her comments and thought about them and discovered she is just being truthful in what she believes and has the balls to say it. I have friends that tell me straight up and don't sugar coat and I have learned to do the same for them. I found it is far better to know where you actually stand in a friendship then to beat around the bush and sugar coat everything in fear that they will be mad at you if you disagree with them, if they do get mad fine, let them, if they are a true friend they will get over it.

THAT is amazing!!! I'd have it gone in the car on the way home. I've really been craving chocolate lately.

I am amazed that I didn't get severe whiplash in a horse riding incident last weekend. I stayed on a very spooked mare in a wind storm! You all would have been amazed as well. LOL. Wish it had been captured on film. I'm going to make an appointment with the chiropracter... just in case.

Did I really state that she bothers me? No one is asking anyone to conform. I was just stating that there is a way to say something and a way not to. I appreciate bluntness and telling it like it is. I'm that way. However, I don't choose to be degrading, obnoxious or rude when trying to get my point across. That's it. End of discussion.

I'm amazed how rude people can be...When someone posts a freebie that someone doesn't think is a freebie, they will say "this is a contest...not a giveaway"...or when a contest has been posted and perhaps the link isn't working...they will say "this doesn't work...i can't get into the site...blah, blah, blah..."...instead of actually doing a little work and going into the main home page of the sponsor and trying to post the correct link, rules, etc...All they do is complain and moan about what's wrong...If the OP is nice enough to share, a simple thank you would be nice once in awhile... ~Lisa

IMO the end of your sentence is rude, but that is how I take it from my point of view, someone else might not see it that way, I guess it is difference in opinions. I got the vibe that you are a little snippy with jaded? Maybe I am wrong. Again I think it depends on how your read something and how you think it sounds as an individual.

Yep, that's how I feel, too.

I appreciate everyone who has spoken in my defense.

I really appreciate Kelly's comments because she and I have butted heads on more than one ocassion!

I don't apologize for hurting anyone's feelings. I will say that's not my intent...I just say what is on my mind!

It amazes me that people think all vegetarians are skinny.
It amazes me that DH is OK with tofu and seitan.
It amazes me that my fish tank is filthy, and I really don't care.
It amazes me that my children are adults and sometimes give me (good) advice.
It amazes me that most of the ice has melted in the driveway....just in time for this next storm.

It amazes me of how we can sometimes agree to disagree
It amazes me that there are some really nice people out there who without personally knowing you can brighten your day by just saying something nice
It amazes me that all the work that was assigned to me is done and I have free time and can see my desk

Thank You !

Ive wanted to say this for a long time. I know you are not talking about me, in general but , I do my best on the freebie board and post what I can find. I do check them out first. It is not my fault or the OP that posts the link or the thread if it does not work. A little appreciation helps.

Sorry for hijacking the thread!

I feel better I got that off my chest. Now I will go and kill my (teenagers). Can ya tell I am house bound from all the dang snow?

You're right you didn't say that. Apparently I totally misread your post and you really meant that you have no problem at all with her. Or maybe you were just being blunt? Being that it's the written word I'm reading, it's always so hard to tell...

"And I guess what will amaze me the most is if this thread DOESN'T go to the 'acohol baths' discussion, because we all know this is where this thread is coming from and probably referring to!! " I caught that too however refuse to play the game.

What amazes me most about internet boards is that people can be so bitter and or rude towards people. Makes you wonder what they are like in real life.

I don't want to leave Judi hanging out there unsupported. I agree with her point of view - no surprise there, I guess.

I personally have no problem whatsoever with people stating their opinions bluntly and telling it like they see it. What troubles me is the name-calling and insults - and I hope to not put words in Judi's mouth, but I think that's what she saying as well.

There's a big difference between saying

"I would not use the treatment recommended by Lucinda - that's old folk lore and modern medicine considers it dangerous. Please be careful and check out these links"

and

"Lucinda is dumber than dirt even though she claims to be a medical professional. She's trying to kill your child. Let's all beat her down!!"

It amazes me that someone can tell another poster to "shut the F up" and then be amazed at how other posters say something. Just amazing.
