Red face The Vanishing Bees

I saw a 60 minutes (re-run) piece on this either last Sunday or the Sunday before. and the Nightly News is going to do a piece on it here in a minute.

Seems the bees are leaving their hives and not returning. This not only impacts the beekeeper, but the farmer who hires him to come in and supply bees to pollinate their fields, etc, etc.

Some of the thinking is that pesticides are contaminating/killing the hives and/or affecting the bees ability to find their way home.

This scares me - how about you??

After the he!! I went through last summer with bees,I certainly hope that it is true at least for my case!
We had literally thousands and thousands of bees hiving in the walls of our garage. Then they were starting a new colony under our porch in the well! First I can't get into my garage, and next they want to keep me prisoner inside my home.Have you ever been stung by angry bees? When they are protecting their eggs ,they attack anything that comes near their area.

It scares me how can we live without food? Even Ben & Jerry's is affected by it I read they are stopping some flavors I now cannot find the article online.

Can those of us who live in the country start bee neighborhoods to encourage them? What can we do? I love food I don't want to die a slow death dreaming of it.

I have been hearing about this and caught part of the 60 minutes show.

It does scare me and it should scare everyone. A friend of mine is a bee keeper and he is losing whole colonies. They just disappear, there are no dead bodies or anything like that.

Actually, my husband had quoted someone famous (I will try to find out who it was) who said that once the bees disappeared, mankind was not that far behind.
