Any Ideas for Inspirational Songs??

I have volunteered to lead a group of Girl Scouts to sing a song at our local Relay for Life Fundraiser. We will do this for the kick off for the event. I'm blank! Any ideas what song I should teach them to sing? It should be uplifting or inspirational.

Has anyone ever participated in this event? Maybe you can recall any music that they played. For information see relayforlife.org.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Judi

The ACS Relay for Life website has music suggestions for the various ceremonies: http://www.acsrelay.org/Darn_Good_Id...Ceremonies.doc

Or are you looking for something original (unused)?

P.S. Sarah Mclachlan's I WIll Remember You is one of my favorite songs. YouTube - sarah mclachlan - i will remember you

and R Kelly's I Believe I Can Fly is very inspirational YouTube - I Believe I Can Fly - R Kelly

Hope about "I Run for Life" by Melissa Etheridge? Or "Beautiful" by Christina A?

The song that we use at the END of all of our fund raisers is "the time of my life". Have no clue who sings it but it is the one they play at the end of dirty dancing. If you contact relay for life, they will tell you songs that they "prefer". Not that you have to use them but they like it if you do.

Thank You

Thanks so much to all who answered my plea. I greatly appreciate your responses. I'm going to check out the songs. Some I don't know, but the titles sound great.

CJS, I didn't even think to consult the site for songs. Duh! lol Thanks for the link.

It NEVER amazes me how helpful my fellow mycouponers are. You all have come through for me more than you'll ever know.

How about "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban. I love that song. It's so uplifting! Google "You Raise Me Up" and you'll find it at the top and you can see it on You-Tube.
That song gives me chills every time I hear it!!

Angels Among Us ( by Alabama - Album = Cheap Seats)

I was walking home from school on a cold winter's day
Took a shortcut through the woods and I lost my way
It was getting late and I was scared and alone
Then a kind old man took my hand and led me home
Mama couldn't see him, but he was standing there
But I knew in my heart, he was the answer to my prayers

Oh I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love

When life dealt troubled times and had me down on my knees
There's always been someone there to come along and comfort me
A kind word from a stranger to lend a helping hand
A phone call from a friend just to say I understand
Ain't it kind of funny at the dark end of the road
Someone lights the way with just a single ray of hope

Oh I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love

They wear so many faces
Show up in the strangest places
Grace us with thier mercy
In our time of need

Oh I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love

One thing I don't like about our relays is that the songs seem sad and mouring...those that survivied want to remember that and celebrate it. How about "Stand". it was done by Oprah's Pop Star Challange. It is about "when there is nothing else you can do you just stand and be strong". It is a very good song - and I listened to it (and only it) for my last chemo (all six hours of it).

I was going to say Josh Groban "You Raise Me Up" as well. I hadn't thought of Angels Among Us, but that would be nice as well. We did Relay last year. I was ok up until the time they had the candle lighting ceremony and played about 5 of the saddest songs in the world. Everyone just lost it.

SaraBeth,

This is a great song. Just what I was looking for. I just hope I can teach it to my Girl Scouts. I also need to find a Karaoke version of it.

Thanks to everyone again. I will let you know how it goes. The Relay for Life is April 4th.

You all are the best!!
