Scary movies?

I hate scary movies. I don't mean I dislike them, I mean I HATE them. I avoid them like the plague. Not only that, but there are some movies that *I* consider scary, that other people don't. I hate them so much, I won't even let hubby watch them in the house if I am home! LOL

The whole suspense vs scary thing gets me. I think they are one and the same. For instance, that movie with Bruce Willis, the one with the little boy that saw dead people? I thought that was scary, and I walked out of the theater! (My husband had told me at the time it was 'suspenseful')

So, how about you? Like scary movies? Love them? Like them, but have to watch them with all the lights on? Or hate them, like me?

I am so much like you!

The scariest movies I've EVER seen are "Silence of the Lambs," "Cape Fear" and "Fatal Attraction"

I absolutely GET that, for many people, these movies don't even register on the "scary" scale. But I wasn't able to get over having seen them for months and months! Parts of each of those movies replayed in my head over and over. I know - what a movie lightweight I am...

Now all I can watch are comedies. But at least I know that about myself, and I don't waste the $$ on something that will terrorize me!

I love scarey suspenseful movies. I will watch them sitting by myself. I use to love Freddie Kruger when I was younger, I have seen Friday the 13th movies that I thought were scare but now I think they are cheesey. I love the Halloween movies.

The only think I do not like is the original Exsorsist movies. The Emily Rose one didn't bother me. I don't like demonic talking movies. I don't like movies that make little kids evil or demonic.

The three movies you mention are all awesome, and Silence of the Lambs is my FAVORITE...Something about Sir Anthony Hopkins in that movie....

I hate hate hate the "new breed" of cheesy horror movies that are all about gore. The scariest and best movies IMO dont show a drop of blood. I also love the old Hitchcock and Twilight Zone shows.

I LOVE them!!

I've been wanting to go see that Jessica Alba one, "The Eye" I think it's called, and a new one I think called "Shutter".

I like a lot of different movies though, not just scary. The only ones I think I DON"T like at all are like the Rocky movies, Jean Claude Van Damme (sp) and Steven Segal movies(sp). Just about everything else is a go.

Scary is me. I hate comedies and chick flicks. I watch scary movies when I'm home alone, and I don't even look under the bed before I go to sleep. I do not like the blood and guts or demonic movies, though. I just like to be scared outta my seat.

I grew up watching horror flicks so I don't get spooked watching them mostly because I know they aren't real. But if I watch a documentary type movie of hauntings and possessions ,etc. then I will get the willies from that.Even reading about people who have experienced such things will get me spooked and I will not watch those kinds of movies when I'm alone,As long as its not real it doesn't spook me.
I like watching good horror flicks, I guess I like the suspense. My bf hates horror and will not watch it at all.
The only horror movies I do not like are the ones with vomiting in them.

I remember when I was younger, my 2 older sisters would watch Friday the 13th movies, and the Nightmare On Elm Street movies. They would lock me out of my room and make me watch them with them. I hated them!!

Then after, they would wait til I went to bed, and they'd go outside and scratch on my windows!!! AGH!!!

Holly

PS-- I know Jaws isn't considered a scary movie either, but just the music, the (ch, ch, ch sound) sends me into a panic!

Chick flicks and comedies only... Suspenseful and/or scary, no way! I also don't like mob movies.

Luckily my DH is the same way... we watched about 30 minutes of Jack Nicholsen's The Departed and had to turn it off. Too much gore and very intense. The lady that loaned it to me told me it was the best movie that she'd seen in a long time. Yikes. I never told her that we didn't watch it...

They get into my head too. I don't like that and it rarely happens with a comedy.

My DH teases me because I even cry when I watch comedies. It's getting better with age. LOL.

I love horror, it is about the only movies I can stand to watch. I hate dramas, comedies and "chick" flicks.
My favorites are Asian Horror and I hate that the American movie studios keep remaking them.
Loved Ju On The Grudge,The Eye,Shutter,Reincarnation,Ringu, these were all good and most have been remade, go watch the original Asian version, they do a much better job at telling the story!

I love scary movies, also! I prefer psychological thrillers and suspense over gore, but some gorey ones are good, too!

I go thru phases - sometimes I just get in the mood to be scared and I'll rent 2-3 scarey movies - not slasher movies.

Premonition is another that started as an Asian Horror and was remade here. I love the original one, never have seen the American one, but I hate Sandra Bullock.
Asian Horror movies aren't gorey, they let you use your imagination, and that is usually much scarier than anything that the movies effects can do.

I think there's a real difference between 'scary' movies and these blood, guts, gore and snuff murder films that the movie industry is calling movies nowadays. I like a suspenseful movie but these things like Saw I, II and III, and some of these other things called 'movies' should be banned. (I can't think of their names right now). There are enough crazy people in this world that look at these things and act on them for real. To me, it just gives them more ideas.

I like movies that are suspenseful but can't stand the blood, guts and gore in the other ones.

I like 'em too!! Not so much the blood and guts Saw types though. I like suspense movies too, Sometimes they can be scarier. Midnight Lace is one like that. Not to keen on the Exorcist types although Emily Rose was pretty good. That one scared me! lol I love all the old movies-Dracula with Bela Lugosi!
When my son was young-say age 6 or so-he watched what was to him the scariest movie of all time. He has an older brother (by almost 7 yrs) so he had been exposed to lots of stuff he probably shouldn't have seen. The scary movie? The Don Knotts film "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken"!! THat's a good example of suspense being scarier than blood and guts which he had seen many times with his older borthers video games, etc... I still chuckle at this!!!

I love scary movies - but they have to be really scary for me to like them. Has anyone seen Hostel? I loved this movie, but my DH groaned when I brought home Hostel 2.

Okay...I am so creeped out by scary movies I can't even read this thread!! LOL! I am home alone right now...even though it's 10 o'clock in the morning! I read the first couple of messages and then decided I couldn't read anymore.

I do NOT like scary movies...I liked Sixth Sense even though it was a little creepy. My DH and I went to see The Ring when it came out and I thought since it was PG13 it couldn't be all that bad. My goodness was I wrong! Even my husband, who loves scary movies, was creeped out by it. I wasn't the only person in the audience covering my eyes and jumping! My DH has his computer in our big walk-in closet so he has to watch those movies in there.

I like them BUT.....the very first scary movie I watched all by myself was Motel Hell and to this day that is the only movie I cannot watch while I'm alone. Now I can watch all the Friday the 13th's and the Halloween's and that sort of stuff...but Motel Hell creeps me out for some reason (dh thinks it's comical that it freaks me out so...).

Departed was FAB! One of the scariest movies I saw as a teen was "Dead of Winter"...no blood...suspense only but scary as heck to me!

OMG!! I saw this in a midnight movie at least 25 years ago!! Didnt they put traps on the road, catch people, take them back to Motel Hello (O was burned out), "plant " them in a garden, then harvest them to make sausage?? Pathetic I remember the storyline after all those years....

Yep, that's exactly what happened!! The first time I watched it I think I was 11 or 12. I was so scared by the end I ran and jumped into bed...don't think my feet touched the floor!!
