what do you usually buy at your store's deli ?

I like to buy shaved turkey on sale, pepperoni , and potatoe salads. When a store has a soup bar, I usually get a cup.

I hate to say it, but I've become a meat snob. Only Boars Head chicken, turkey, roast beef, even beef bologna. It's way expensive, but so worth it.

my weekly order is usually 1# Tobins bologna, 1/2 # each of Prima Della Roast Turkey Breast, Sahlen's ham, black angus roast beef, and 1# white american cheese. I hate throwing deli meat away so I've got it down to what lasts one week for us.

Nothing anymore. It isn't in the grocery budget for now.

In the summer, I get paid a little more, and we are home for lunch almost every day I buy:
honey ham
cajun roast beef
turkey pastrami

just depends what I/we are in the mood for

I buy white American cheese, virginia baked ham, sandwich pepperorni, and the Boars head spicy chicken lunchmeat (forget it's name)...I don't like shaved lunchmeat at all...blah. I also think that some of the Publix lunchmeat and cheese is just as good as Boars Head and so much less expensive. Boars Head has some interesting flavors, but it's not much better than the Publix brand...Just my opinion of course...I'm used to the corner deli's back where I'm from in NJ/PA...they had the best lunchmeat and cheese of all! I can't find that down here. ~Lisa

Not much. As good as everything looks, it is just to expensive. Deli meats go so fast in our house. If I can't stock up on it when it's on sale, I'll go to Sam's club and get a boneless ham or turkey and have them shave it for me. That way, it's only about $2.30 per lb. I end up w/ 20lbs, but it freezes ok, or sometimes I'll split it w/ my mom.

We usually buy 1lb of lunch meat a week - or rather two types, 1/2lb each. Its still cheaper for me to buy 1 loaf of bread, 1lb of lunchmeat and 1/2lb sliced cheese and some chips to brown bag hubby's lunch then for him to eat out. Not to mention he only gets 1/2 hour for lunch so there's no time to go out. Typically we rotate between roasted turkey of some kind, ham, cappacola, or beef-salami. Usually brand names like Perdue, Dietz and Watson, Boar's Head etc but we try to look for what type is on sale so we don't pay more then $7.99 for the entire pound of meat. The store brand at Shoprite is pretty good and we get that sometimes.

I rarely get deli meat. Not good for you.

Sometimes the soup is tempting, but in my grocery, it's serve-yourself. The thought of hair, dandruff, eye crud and sneeze juice going in there as someone peers over it to ladle some out, puts me off my feed!

Why do you say deli meat isn't good for you??

I'll agree, the other comments are totally uncalled for.

Roast turkey, a little bit thicker than shaved. My kids take their lunch every day so deli meat is a small price to pay for a good sandwich.

Same here (only 2 kids though!). My mouth is sure watering from reading the posts...

I try to buy things that people *like* but don't necessarily *love* or it just wouldn't last! and I'd have to be at the store every day and no money left in the bank.

To keep from offending delicate sensibilities, it's best not elucidate on the deli meat.

Same here - won't eat anything besides Boar's Head. NOTHING (and I mean nothing) compares

I don't ussually buy deli stuff as my husband doesn't really eat processed meat. I make him sandwiches (when he rarely eats those) with cooked meat that I make.

But I do like the Horseradish cheddar at Safeways. Also all the local Safeways have fresh cooked Chinese food in the deli and it's better than many of the Chinese restaurants in town. I also like their 3 cheese panini.

Deli meat is NOT good for you. Lysteria is only one worry.
It's also very high in salt and they use chemicals to get it the right color and flavor.

it's bad enough here that yesterday was my birthday, i picked up some Olive Garden for my birthday lunch today cause we hardly ever go, I couldnt eat it immediatly after i got back so when i did go to eat it someone already ate it. I explained to them about how I was truely happy someone ate MY birthday lunch so I didnt even get a chance to have anything good. they think anything in the fridge is fair game cant even put MOM'S on it cause 2 of them cant read yet oh well least they coulda left me a breadstick or something

Let's see I buy 2 lbs Cajun Roast Beef, if that's not available it's Cajun Turkey. DS #2 will only eat Ham and Cheese loaf from the deli so I buy 1 lb of that for him. Usually 1 lb of American Cheese and 1 lb of Hot Pepper Cheese.

Occasionally I will pick up something different but not often.

I have tried Boars Head and wasn't that impressed....I am a huge Prima Della fan.....I normally get Black Forest Ham and Roasted Turkey Breast. As far as cheese I change it up every week between, provolone, munster and colby jack cheese....it just depends what I am in the mood for. We normally buy some wheat rolls from the bakery and make panini pressed sandwiches for dinner on Sunday night along with some homemade soup.

I think the main reason why I like Prima Della so much, cause it doesn't have a slimy feel or taste that I think a lot of deli meat have.

usually 1 lb of either ham or turkey
and 3/4 lb of the other
I LOVE the Jennie-O Honey Smoked Turkey and it's the only thing I will shop at wal-mart for...I mean I have to force myself to go there...Meijer has it but it's $1 a lb more and it's on the way home besides that there are four wal-marts in town so I am always near one...lol
I also get 3/4 lb cojack cheese
And I buy the really good bread...you know the loaf that costs about $4 a loaf? It's so much better than wonder bread...it actually makes the sandwich.
I also get a loaf of cinnamon raisin bread and make paninis with that because I went to a tea room once and had the most amazing sandwich like this and now make mine at home for the a fraction of the price!
Monte-Cristo sandwiches are also GREAT on the better bread.
