Finding origin of email addy...

Can anyone tell me how I can find out where and from whom an email addy originates from?

It's almost impossible. You can check the original headers of the message but many spammers will cover their bases. I have my biz email sent out as a "spoof" often and it's not me. It's just the email worms....using your email to spam people

If you're trying to track a spammer, you're wasting your time. If you're trying to see if the email's from someone you know, you could probably do that, but it's pretty nerdy. There's info here How to read email headers about headers, just basic stuff, and IP addresses can be looked up at arin.net (N American ones. If they trace to another country, it'll refer you elsewhere). Even reading IP addresses takes some work, since ISP's tend to trace to a central location, even if the actual customer is elsewhere.
