Favorite Vacation spots?

Some what of a spin off of the spring break thread. I just finished our spring break plans and am looking ahead to summer plans. I want to do something new and different and was wondering what every one elses favorite vacation spots were. So where are you favorite places and why?

I love the New England states. They are beautiful and peaceful. I don't care for hustle and bustle and crowds. DH and I are heading up to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island this summer. Ahhhh. I can't wait.

We had a good time at Myrtle Beach, SC when we went there 2 years ago. We also had a good time in Orlando. We didn't even go to Disney while we were there. We went to Universal and that was in the way of theme parks. We mainly went to smaller type tourist attractions and took in two or three different shows.

We loved the Pirate dinner show and we saw a magic show at an upside down building. It was fun!

We LOVE going to Ottley's Plantation Inn in St. Kitts!!! There are only 24 rooms overall, making the whole vacation relaxing. They have best service we have ever gotten anywhere. The owners are very hands on and manage the Inn, they oversee your entire stay. The rooms are simple gorgeous and over-sized (reminds me of southern colonial style) the beds are extremely comfortable and the thread count on the sheets have to be around 1000. The food is incredible, since there are only 24 rooms the public pool is never overcrowded....however, the 3 times we have gone we have stayed in rooms that have their own mini pools. Now if you like hustling and bustling on your vacation, this place isn't for you, Ottley's is peaceful and serene, it's my paradise. They do have vans that take you to shopping/beaches/fishing and other attractions if you want daily, we normally only leave the Inn 3 or 4 times during an 8 day trip. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back SOON!!!

We really like Williamsburg, Virginia. We also had a great time last year when we went to Blowing Rock, NC! The Bahamas and Florida are also nice. Locally....we love spending time in Belfast or Bar Harbor. For the last four years we have stayed on our Anniversary weekend at the White House Bed and Breakfast in Belfast (along with a few other couples), and we have had a very good time. The Inn is wonderful and is within walking distance of the village. Anyone visiting Maine....I would highly recommend Belfast. Its not as crowded as Bar Harbor and is a very relaxing, beautiful coastal community!

Can you tell me what it is about Branson you like? We'd like to go someplace different and maybe Branson is the place to go.

BTW, my favorite place to go is the Outer Banks, NC. Lots less activity than Myrtle Beach, SC.

We love Central Oregon and the Mt Shasta area. Also where we live the Willamette Valley is a vacation and tourist spot. Oregon is quite lovely.

Branson is a lot of fun. They have Silver Dollar City (an amusement park based on an old time mining city, Celebration City (a newer amusement park) and White Water (a water park).

They also have a lot of live theaters that a lot of famous (or not so famous) people own and/or perform at. Dolly Parton has a place there, one of the Osmonds, there's a couple magic shows, a Chinese Acrobat show. I think anyone can find a show to match their personality.

They've also got the "Ducks". They are old military trucks (kind of like a trolley) that give you a tour of the city, then they plunge into Table Rock Lake and float like a boat. They are way cool and a lot of fun to ride. Here's a link with a lot of information. Branson is a fun place to visit. There's a lot to do there.

Branson Missouri vacation lodging, hotels, shows, Chamber of Commerce

We've been to Spirit of the Dance, the Kirby Birch magic show & Acrobats of China. We enjoyed them all.

oh, some of the places mentioned sound so nice!

We like Park City, UT. It's nice and relaxing as it's "off season". Lots of outdoor stuff to do (Olympic Park, hiking, biking, walking) and it's close to Salt Lake if you want to shop (30 min drive). We go every summer

Silver Dollar City theme park and attractions - Branson Missouri Silver Dollar City has several thrill rides and water rides. Plus a special play area for children. Lots of good food and good clean fun. Dolly Parton does not perform in Branson, however, the show that she endorses (not sure if she owns) is Dixie Stampede. Yakov Smirnoff and Shoji Tabuchi are two wonderful shows as is Six.Welcome to Yakov.com SIX - a.k.a. The Knudsen Brothers. Real Brothers! Real Music!Shoji!http://www.dixiestampede.com/branson. The show includes a meal that you eat with your fingers, no utensils provided nor are they necessary.
There's the Ripley's Believe It or Not museum, the Hollywood Wax Museum, lots of shopping including 2 outlet malls. Plenty of local entertainment with families that have been in the business since the late '50's and '60's. Lots of locally owned restaurants and franchise restaurants to satisfy everyone's appetite.
We go at least once a year, sometimes 2-3 times a year.
There's just no way to put everything here.
If there's something in particular anyone would like to know, just PM me.

I almost forgot!! The Sight and Sound Theater is opening this spring. Sight & Sound
If you're a fan of Roy Rogers, his museum is now in Branson.
I could go on and on for an hour or so.

Storyland in Glenn, New Hampshire. It is the nicest, cleanest amusement park ever! It's also pretty old - many people I know say that they used to go there as a kid (25 years ago) and that it hasn't changed! It IS geared to children probably 10 and under (my 9 year old never wants to stop going, though, and we always see kids older than her).

Since it's in the mountains, there are great things to do other days: gandala (sp) rides, hikes, and climbing (or driving) Mount Washington - famed for having the worst weather in the world on top! Amazing restaurants and shopping in North Conway and outlets nearby. The most family-friendly area I've been. We go back every year!

Oh how could I forget.

Sparky and I had a wonderful vacation in Savannah GA. It was beautiful. We parked the car on Friday and didnt get in it again until we went home. We walked everywhere. Tybee Island is right there too. We didnt go to the beach but could have.

The best description I have ever heard of Branson ( and I am paraphasing badly) is its Las Vegas as it would have been built by Ned Flanders of the simpsons. Its got all the shows but very Christian and wholesome. You will never hear anyone utter a curse word or anything off color in any show or anywhere in town for that matter. Everything is Family oriented. There are the shows and amusement parks but also lots of great out door adventure type things to do. There are a few lakes and rivers that are great for boating and fishing and the Mountains are gorgeous. There is also a great outlet mall there. I have fond childhood memories of the place. We used to spend the summers out there when we were kids. It really is a great place to go with kids and very safe. I hope they have solved some of the traffic problems though.

Savannah is one of our favorit places too. I love Jekyll island, sea island and Sidaway island all of which are very near there.

I really like some of these ideas. Please keep 'em coming especially the family oriented type places.

Thanks

The traffic in Branson is still a mess. They have added colored routes to help navigate where you're getting to, but it's still gridlock!

I always say that my favorite vacation spot is"anywhere in our motorhome".
Have you thought of renting one?
There are some great campgrounds all over the USA.
Some have lots of family and child oriented activities and also swimming pools, etc.

Yes, it still can be a mess on the strip. However, with all the back routes, we easily navigate without much of a problem. We also stay at a hotel off the strip and plan our activites according to how the traffic will be at any given time. You soon learn how to pop up one of the back routes closest to the point where you want to be on the strip.
Just remember to allow plenty of time and chill. It's vacation after all and no need to work up the BP because traffic is backed up.

The outerbanks in NC. We have gone the past 3 years and love it. Our normal lives are so crazy that I really enjoy the laid back atmosphere. We have stayed in Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills which are a whole 4 miles apart. You can do nothing all week or you can be active. There are some putt putts, shopping, fishing trips or fishing piers, water activities, a small aquarium, Jockey Ridge to climb the sand dunes and fly kites (plus there are a bunch of activities during the daytime), Wright Brothers Memorial.

We rent a large home that has a pool and hottub and we just catch up with each other. this year relatvies from FL are going to join us and the kids are all very excited.

We love going to the Adirondacks, and are planning another trip there this summer. I think this year we're going to be around Lake George. (we're campers so we take our travel trailer)

Other fave spots are:

South Lake Tahoe, CA (I will retire there someday! )
Flagstaff/Sedona, AZ
Montana (specifically West Yellowstone) It's an unbelieveable experience to wake up to bison in your front yard!!!

Then when you're done there you can swing through Fayetteville, AR and visit the U of A and pick up some Razorback "stuff" (as you probably guessed, we've been there and done all of that!)

LOVE Montana! Seeley/Swan Lake area, Missoula, Flathead Valley, Glacier National Park and that whole surrounding area. Going to the Sun Road in Glacier is absolutely a STUNNING drive with lots of opportunities to see beautiful sightes and sometimes wildlife (Bear, Moose, Elk, etc). There is a drive-in Movie theater in Columbia Falls, MT. Flathead Lake is huge and gorgeous. Driving just about anywhere in the Western half of Montana is beautiful. Eastern half of Montana is flat land and not so pretty (or interesting).

Love Colorado! Mesa Verde National Park has the cliff dwellings and is really interesting. Royal Gorge is neat.
