How Anal Are You About Your Teeth?

Everyone loves nice straight teeth, but how many times is too many to get braces? My sil had braces as a teenager, and I always thought she had nice teeth. Well in her mid-thirties, she got braces again since she said that she had a slight overbite that was bothering her. We just visited her recently and I was shocked to see that she got braces again...3 times now (after about 3 years since the second set of braces). Now I'm thinking that she is this outrageous perfectionist that may never be completely satisfied with her teeth. Does anyone else think this is a bit overboard?

I'm curious if she quit wearing her retainer at night? It seems if she were wearing a retainer at night it would keep them straight and be a lot cheaper than braces again!

I had them (for the 1st time) as an adult and wear a retainer at night to keep them in place. I keep thinking I don't want to wear it anymore, but then think of the money that would be wasted if they move again.

I wore braces a total of 4 times and 11 years. YES!! you could call me a bit obsessive-compulsive about my teeth. As a child my parents divorced and when I would go to my dad's house he would not follow through with my dental care thus the braces took forever to work. As an adult I had them put on again to realign everything. Then I had a car wreck that fractured my jaw and we put the braces on again to run the wire to wire my jaw shut through the braces versus running it through my gums. When we took them off that time the orthodontist felt the bones weren't stable enough so we immediately put them back on again. I still am not happy with the way they look. Despite retainers for life they are still shifting. No more braces though. I am just going to accept that perfectly straight teeth are not in my genes. I am also an obsessive brusher too for whatever reason. Brush many times a day.

I had braces as a child, but about 8-10 years ago my wisdom tooth became impacted and shifted my teeth...so I have one tooth that has turned and it annoys me. I have thought about getting braces again, but I think I have opted to do veneers instead. I can see where an obsession over straight teeth can occur, especially if you have had braces in the past.

Despite being very faithful with wearing my retainer, my teeth have shifted.

I had braces for the first time 9 years ago when I was in my mid-30's. My teeth still look the same from the front but my molars have shifted and I now have a misaligned jaw and my molars don't line up properly. Probably because of the way that I chew.

Unless I can re-learn how to chew correctly, LOL, I will not get braces again... just wear this dadburn retainer until I am too old to care anymore or I get false teeth.

I never did have braces as a kid, but did get them in my mid 20's. I was bad about wearing my retainer, and as I have gotten older, my teeth are yellowing quite bad. Hopefully in the next year or two I will be able to get veneers as well. I am just getting so self-conscious about my teeth.

Very much so. I brush every day and floss at least four times a day. The virus in gum disease causes heart problems and other problems for people. I don't understand people who don't floos and take care of their teeth. Dental visists are expensive however floss, toothpaste and a toothbrush are not.

As far as braces go I had them when I was about 12 for two years. If I had the money there are some areas I would like to use the clear braces on or maybe get a retainer as I did not wear mine as long as I should have.

I had braces, head gear, retainer , the whole nine yards when I was teen ager. fast foward to the yr of 1999. I was driving down the road, with my nice white straight teeth ( lol) and this guy decided he would look for a cd in the floor of his car as he traveled behind me at 65 mph. I was tooting along at the speed limit of 35. long story short, he rear ended me in his big town car . I was in a honda accord. Me and the accord got shot across the road and into a oak tree that didnt have time to get outa the way. I made it throug the wreck just find, except for when the air bag came busting out and slammed into my mouth. broke my nose, bones in my cheek and knocked out my upper front teeth. ( sucks to be short. if I had been taller, the air bag would have hit me in the already flat chest) now my uppers sleep in a nice little white cup at nite. lol

Nay, nay, lil red hen - it is the *plaque* from poor dental hygiene that causes heart probs - it's the same plaque that builds up in your arteries/veins.

MZ... with 4 outta 6 kids who have needed extensive orthodontia as well as maxillofacial surgeries, heavy psi.

Wow! That is almost the samething that happened to me. I had braces as a kid and wonderful teeth. I was about 22 and my boyfriend and I had went to the beach and was driving home when someone ran a red light as we were crossing the road and broadsided us. I had my head down changing the station on the radio when the impact hit. The force slammed my head into the dash board and broke my cheek bone and knocked most of my front teeth out upper and lower. So much for all the money my parents spent on dental work Though I am very thankful that is all that happened to me. We were hit on my side of the car. I got pinned in the car and couldn't get out. When they finally did get me out and I could see the car it was a U shape, I was very lucky.

My DH and I both had braces as teens. Our teeth have shifted (his worse than mine). We are both thinking about getting braces again when our DD gets hers next year. For me, after years of straight teeth having that feeling of crooked teeth is very uncomfortable. This time, I can't wait to get braces!
