Question anybody have a steam mop

Do you like it? What brand do you have? Do you remember how much you paid for yours?

I am so tempted to get one for my ceramic kitchen and bathroom floors. They are black and are soooo hard to keep clean

I have the Shark Steam Mop. I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond for $79.99 and I had the 20% off coupon. I have mostly hard wood floors that before I was cleaning with a spray bottle of water and a microfiber mop. Did the trick but was a lot of work. I REALLY like the steam mop! It doesn't streak and it's lightweight. The only downfall is that it takes more than one mop full of water to clean all my floors and you have to wait for it to cool down before refilling. Not a HUGE deal but thought it should be mentioned. I bought mine at BBB because if you try a product and it doesn't work out for you, you can take it back if you have your receipt. I have to pay that much money and hate it KWIM?

Wow, I didn't know that -- is that policy posted in their store? That would be great to know that I could return the mop if it just doesn't work that well on my ceramic tile.

Thanks for responding

I don't think it's posted. I always ask to make sure before I buy "if this doesn't work like it says it does on my floors, can I bring it back?". They always say "yes, with your receipt".

I have the Eureka Envirosteamer. It came out several years back and Walmart had them for a while, but I haven't seen them lately. I love mine.

Well, I drove out to BBB after church today and saw the big display for the Shark Steam Mop from the front door

But when I reached the display, it was empty!

I found a salesclerk and asked her if they had any more in the backroom and she said "nope, we can't keep them in stock even though they get in 50 at a time -- they're the hottest thing going".

She called the other stores and none of them had any left, so she ordered it for me online from the store so I won't have to pay shipping, it will come directly to my house, and I still got credit for the 20% off coupon. She said I should have it in a week.

I'm anxious to try it.

about 10-15 min or so. Not too bad. I usually sweep up the next area for cleaning while it's cooling down

I have wood floors. How are these on wood floors? I have real wood floors with just a polyeurthane (SP) finish on them.

I have hickory floors with a poly on top and it works great! You just have to be careful to not hold the mop in one spot too long...keep it moving

What, exactly, to they do? Do they steam and suck? Or do they mop and suck? Or do they not suck at all?

Lol..a lot of sucking questions aren't there? Hopefully they suck.

If you use Internet Explorer, there is a little video as well (couldn't get it to work with firefox)

Basically, you have a removeable pad you put on it (you can wash this between cleanings) similar to a swiffer. You fill it with water, it heats up and then steam comes out of the bottom onto the pad so you can clean the floors. They don't *suck* anything. It's just steam so it's a mop only. The back and forth motion of mopping pumps the steam out. It's lightweight (3 or 4 lbs) so it's easy to use

hmmm sounds really interesting. I will have to talk to DH about maybe getting one. Right now, we have 3 rooms with wood, and we are slowing pulling up the other carpets so we can have wood floors throughout. The old owners put carpet over all the wood floors.

I have an Envirosteamer too. I got it at Kohl's for very inexpensive a few years ago. I love it -- it gets the floors super clean without any kind of chemicals or cleaning products. It works great on vinyl and tile. I haven't been brave enough to use it on my hardwoods, but it does so you can use it on 'sealed hardwood'.

Well, I got the Shark steam mop today.

A couple of observations:

1) While the box says "uses plain tap water", there is an insert in the box that says "Important - we recommend using distilled water to extend the life of your steam mop".

2) If you fill the plastic container to the "max fill line", it overflows the water cylinder on the mop.

3) The floor does not dry quite as quickly as I had hoped.

4) It left my black ceramic tile "dull" -- no shine at all

The mop is very lightweight and easy to use.

1) I noticed that too but I use tap water

2) I haven't had that problem?

4) Our tile is matte so I wouldn't see this problem and our wood floors shine nicely after using it

Well now I feel like I misled you...

No, you didn't mislead me at all. Your input was very helpful.

The mop is definitely better than any other mop I've used, so it's fine.
