Talking ? about the US govt check

Okay, I have a question. Remember not long ago that Bush was issuing a refund to all US taxpayers for about $600 or something like plus $300 per child to be spent however they want. Seems like nearly everyone in my area has gotten a notice letter. However, we haven't. Just wondering if there's anyone else who hasn't got the notice. AND where I may check to find out more info about this refund, as I don't want to be left out.

Thank you for any and all assistance.

I got a generic letter telling about the stimulus package, but that's it. The check is based on your 2007 tax return, so, from what I've read, you have to file your 2007 taxes first before you'll receive the check.

We did get a notice that we would be getting a notice as to when we'd be receiving our check. Crazy huh? A notice to tell you WHEN you're getting your next notice?!!! My son got his notice the same day we received ours.

You could probably go to the IRS website about it because they're the ones issuing the checks. From what I've read, the people who had their IRS refund checks automatically deposited into their bank accounts for this year will be receiving their checks first (May 2 comes to mind). Then the rest of the people they're going by the last digits of the social security numbers. I do know you HAVE to file an income tax return this year in order to get the rebate.

2007 Tax Rebate Checks on Squidoo

If you file your 2007 tax return by April 15, and request direct deposit for your refund, then you can expect your rebate according to the following schedule...

SSNs ending in 00-20, deposited by May 2
SSNs ending in 21-75, deposited by May 9
SSNs ending in 76-99, deposited by May 16

Notice that taxpayers who requested direct deposit on their 2007 tax return will receive their rebate by direct deposit as well.

If you file your 2007 tax return by April 15, and request a paper check for your refund, or if you owe a balance due on your tax return, then you can expect your rebate according to the following schedule...

SSNs ending in 00-09, mailed by May 16
SSNs ending in 10-18, mailed by May 23
SSNs ending in 19-25, mailed by May 30
SSNs ending in 26-38, mailed by June 6
SSNs ending in 39-51, mailed by June 13
SSNs ending in 52-63, mailed by June 20
SSNs ending in 64-75, mailed by June 27
SSNs ending in 76-87, mailed by July 4
SSNs ending in 88-99, mailed by July 11

If you file jointly with your spouse, then use the Social Security number of the first spouse listed on the tax return to determine when you will receive your rebate.

One last note: you must file by April 15 to receive your rebate according to the above schedule. You must file by October 15 to receive the rebate this year, but if you wait to file, you could wait as long as December to receive your rebate.

$42 million and of course YOU are paying for it (and me but mostly our grand kids)

Dear Taxpayer: This letter cost you $42 million - Tax Tactics - MSNBC.com

The government huh? We can laugh or cry but we can't afford the gas to do both. LOL

OFF TOPIC I have a bet with my husband that gas goes way down before the election to show us what wonders the current administration of clowns is.

Anyway they could have added the $42 million to our refunds couldn't they have?

One important note is if by chance you did a Refund Anticipation Loan, or the 10-15 RAC-Refund Anticipation Check through any of the Tax Services your money will be sent to you on a check. I have fielded many calls wondering when they can pick up their check from our offices because thats where they got their "loan" check from. I know we are being clear on it in our District and throughout the company but many other companies aren't and its very confusing. If you did an assisted direct deposit where the fees came out of your refund but the money was deposited directly into your checking account you will get a check not direct deposit.

I think this is a good thing they are doing but I think its too little too late and they have wasted millions of dollars sending letters out we got 3 letters one in DH's name as he is primary and then I got 2 because I Get SSDI now why they sent it I dont know but its a waste of taxpayors money to send this stuff out in duplication. The Gvernment should have did something months ago when gas prices started rising to help stimulate the economy, release something lower the prime rate something but they took too long and whomever our next commander in chief is will be inheriting one heck of a mess.

I think it is stupid to pay people money for nothing. this is not a refund anticipation note, its a one time payment. So my tax dollars are funding this silly idea instead of improving life around these United States. (I think its triple stupid to send out these notices)

Does anyone know if it's true that if you had your 2007 return divided into more than one account your stimulus check won't be direct deposited on the date your SS# corresponds with? I read it'll be mailed towards the end of the schedule.

hmm,
I am reading that it's only $300 per kid for kids UNDER 17. We have one that turned 17 last August. He only works part-time, and made less than $2000 last year. So, I am curious why it is only for kids under 17. Crap, he's the most expensive kid I've got!

I could be wrong of course thats just my guess

Your children are not considered children after age 17 on your taxes, I know you don't get the child ta redit once they turn 17 too.

My question is....if I owed in 2007 will I get a paper check instead of direct deposit? I've gotten direct deposit in the past when I got a refund.

Paper, if you paid what you owe. If you still owe, part or all of the refund will be applied to what's owed

I was going to post this the other day but forgot.Anyway, for those like me who were worried about the check being an advance on our next years refund and that it would be deducted from next years refund ,our local paper said this.

IRS: Stimulus won't affect next years tax returns | Tribune Chronicle

An estimated 130 million Americans will get an economic stimulus check this year, but many remain unsure about how that rebate will affect future tax refunds.

The IRS says the answer is simple.

It won’t.

‘‘The payment will not reduce refunds or increase the amount owed when a 2008 return is filed,’’ the IRS says.

Several tax professionals have incorrectly told customers the rebate is merely an advance on next year’s refund. It is not. It is a tax cut.

Nevertheless, the IRS is advising people to keep a copy of the notice they will receive later this year. People who do not qualify for a full rebate this year may qualify based on next year’s tax return.

The notice will be a record of the rebate the taxpayer actually received.

Rebates will range from $300 to $600 for individual taxpayers and $600 to $1,200 for married couples filing a joint return. The rebate phases out for individuals who earned more than $75,000 and couples who earned more than $150,000.

The IRS also has been warning people to watch out for telephone or e-mail rebate scams. The IRS will not contact people by telephone or e-mail about their rebates.

Selena I just checked the help files from work (well exjob now since we get "fired" April 16th) and it says the following:

If you elected to split the refund between several accounts, you will not receive the stimulus payment by direct deposit. Instead, you will receive a paper check.

It will be based on the primary taxpayers SS# the last 2 digits when they issue the check

HTH

Also if you used the pre-paid credit card that some Tax Places offered and did direct deposit without using any of the bank "loan" products your money will be direct deposited there, so if you prefer a check you need to call the IRS and tell them you want your stimulus payment by check not Direct Deposit, same holds true if you maybe closed the account you originally did the direct deposit too, you need to call and update information... 1-800-829-1040

the first notice was based on the 06 tax return. You will get a second notice right before you get a check if you are entitled to one.
Go to IRS.GOV to see if you will be getting one

Yikes not knowing what your 5 yr olds daughters password to her computer? My kids have their own computer too, but i will not allow them to password protect it as i think its extremly important to know what your kids are doing on the computer.

Thanks for the Concern, But the computer DOESN'T have INTERNET.The computer is my old one we gave to her.It ONLY has CD Games w/out INTERNET playing. We removed the Internet cards from hers. , Not that this matters as she doesn't have Internet to start with.. We are not morons to allow the kids to have Internet and not be able to check up on what they are doing on line,( You know that WONDERFUL thing called HISTORY ) Plus the 2 that does have INTERNET have Parental Blocks and the only sites they are allowed to view are Nick and Nick Jr. ( well Autistic son goes to Ebay alot to look at Power rangers toys, But thats the ONLY sites allowable on the ones with Internet. Plus WE are the Admins to every single computer in this house. We are sure that our son with Autism changed the password,VERY Bad judgment on Hubby's part when he wanted to play a CD game my 5 yo wouldn't give him the password too, So we are sure this is why the ADMIN password was changed.( He does this to his own computer ) and now doesn't remember that it was.But no Biggie really, as Hubby can log into the Turbo Site to get the info needed. I just have not called to ask him to do this Nor give me the info to do it. Doesn't matter I guess being we haven't received any notices I'm guessing we will not get the refund.

got2sav2, just my opinion, but you dont have to explain to a stranger how you decide to raise your children, or what you allow or dont allow her to have. Who are these people anyway, the Pope, the police or the Queen of England.
Some people should not sit around analyzing other peoples post for a scrap of something they dont approve of to pounce on. Sheesh

Couldn't agree with you more on this issue Brendasm. I guess sometimes you have to let them know that award can be shared also...

For the record, When 5 yo came home today, I asked her again if she knew the password, we went over I know 50 different words, still nothing worked, when 8 yo came home I tried to get him to tell me what words he liked to use as passwords , None worked, I'm betting if I entered ()*()*&*(&&^%^% that might work LOL...
I remember 1 time when he changed his password it was 12345678910 LOL..The kids password lock their computers so the others can;t play the saved games and mess it up, Ahhh the joys of haivng Brothers and Sisters lol.

I'll get DH to look online at work and get me the info to enter at the IRS.. I still would like to know why we havn't recieved any notices at all. strange at best since we did get a small refund back. didnt get a state we never do Argg, !
