Does your house have a lot of storage?

We have an unfinished basement (very DRY crawl space) under our house. It is about 700 square feet!

I have plastic tubs with everything from eBay to Christmas...

We store screens, closet doors (my kids have made their closets into *office* areas with desks! and shelves!), fans, picture frames, etc. under the house!

I also have a huge stack of things that are going into my Spring yard sale that I'm going to hold after people start getting their tax rebate checks, LOL. It will be nice when that pile goes away!

The only problem with having a lot of storage is that we tend to have more *stuff* than we'd have if we had to keep things in check.

I do try to keep things in their spot with walkways between... hah.

Does your house have a lot of storage? How do you keep things organized?

No, not at all! Not to mention we are in FL so there is no such thing as a basement. We have a storage bay at a Public Storage for all our "stuff". Unfortunately it runs us about $100 a month!

We also do not have a basement (miss a basement) however, we have an unfinished bonus room as well as the garage that we store stuff in. We also have an unfinished attic used for all the electrical and gas workings in the house...for some reason, I do not feel comfortable storing things there...

We have a basement (1400 square feet) The only problem with it, is that if we get alot of rain all at once, water seeps in. We have a sump pump, but we get puddles. I keep everything in plastic totes or up on shelves.
I love our basement, I just wish it stayed totally dry.

That can really add up. Are you storing heirlooms or things that cannot be replaced?

Yes and no. We have all our holiday decorations, plus things from my grandmothers house, her china, my wedding dress ...etc. ITA, it does add up, but without a basement or a garage, we don't have much choice. I could always kick a kid out of a bedroom....lol

right now, yes, we do. We have a 2400 sq ft unfinished basement so lots of space. Problem is, we want to finish the basement so all that stuff has to be pushed into a tiny area we aren't going to finish. Our last house had a finished basement (we did it) and our new house doesn't so we have a lot of furniture and "stuff" that is for the basement but it's not done.

On the main level we had okay storage. Each bedroom has a walk in closet and we have have a big hall closet near the kids rooms for games, extra sheets, extra kitchen stuff (big items we don't use much like the breadmaker), etc and our bathrooms have lots of drawers for storage

if we could only in the lotto...

we have a ranch style house. Main level is 2400 sq ft (3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths) and the basement is 2400 sq feet. The basement is a walk out so we would like to put in a game room for the kids to hang out in as they get older as well as a guest room and a nice bar area.

We have 4 main storage areas....3 are in the house and one is a shed outside. We have the space under the stairs, then one large cub hole in our bedroom....that after you wiggle your butt thru the whole you can stand up in and is about the size of DS bedroom, and the last one is a walk in that runs almost the whole length of the back of the house, it is slanted so even though its large you aren't able to but tall things in there. However, I do have an old long dresser in there and I use it to store craft things, gift bags, extra office supplies, photos and misc. I don't consider myself organized, but I can normally find what I am looking for.

yeah, this is our situation, too. We have a great basement, but maybe once or twice a year, we get a small amount of water seeping in so we pulled out the original carpeting that was down there when we bought the house.

I wish we had a basement! We still do have plenty of storage though. There is a two-car garage, that we don't park cars in, and we have two large closets downstairs, and a small linen closet downstairs. In addition to that we have six bedrooms-all the kids have really large bedrooms, and the playroom has a nice walk-in as well. In our master BR, DH and I each have his and hers walk-in closets that are pretty big. And behind DH's closet, there is a full size door w/ access to a large storage area under the eaves-I keep all the seasonal stuff, extra clothes, gifts/gift wrap, etc. in there. We do have an attic, but there is nothing in there. That was one of my favorite parts when we bought the house-all the storage!

We have a 1500 sq ft basement that I hope I will never fill. We also have an attic but we don't really use it, it's hard to get things in and out. Every bedroom has a walkin closet, so the kids stuff all fits into their rooms as well as our ton of clothes in ours and the Ebay stuff in the spare bedroom.

We moved here just for the storage, we had a ranch with no basement and we were drowning with all of the stuff and no where to put it.

HECK NO!! It's a one bedroom 750 sq ft house. I had to make storage by using all the organizing tips I learned from magazines, Clean House, etc. I may be a bit OCD as every single drawer, cupboard, shelf and the closet and bathroom cupboard are all completely organized with dividers, baskets, bins, etc. My shoes are in clear shoe boxes and I keep most of the house very very organized.

Our basement is a just a little smaller than yours and we are in the process of finishing it. DH did one room himself and we are going to hire out most of the rest because DH has the talent but not the time due to his 'real' job. I have been moving things around in the basement to facilitate the finishing and finally I got fed up and am in the process of purging as much as possible. We have one small stoarge room with utility shelving and I want all the 'storage' stuff to fit in there. Honestly it feels great to be free of the clutter (well, not quite free yet -- one unfinished room is full of all the stuff I'm getting rid of which we'll sell at the neighborhood yard sale in June).

We too moved from a home with a finished basement (DH finished it completely by himself) to one that wasn't finished (new construction house) and I can't wait for the basement in this house to be finished!

I agree with the other posters who say that much of those with large storage spaces have storage as big as my house. Living in CA we don't "do" basements either. My closets and kids' closets are stuffed full....sure wish I had more storage. The idea of a basement is great to me!
