What do you do when you can't sleep?

I usually get on the computer, do some unfinished housework, read, catch up on emails.

What do you do when you can't sleep?

I guess that I am tired enough that I usually can sleep. I can't see myself getting up to do housework (very productive though) or go online. I would be completely wiped in the morning! I probably would toss and turn until I fell asleep.

I lay in bed and turn on the TV...DH doesn't hear a thing. I usually sleep though. The last time I couldn't sleep was after the death of my grandpa last year and it lasted a couple days. It was mostly family stress with estate stuff that I was trying to help my mom on

I cuss because it is so frustrating to me when I hear DH just snoring away in the other room.

usually plot to kill my dog and my husband...
Ok, maybe not, but they are usually the reason I am awake and cannot go back to sleep. DH snores, and the dog sleeps with us, and is literally the same size as me (a Great Dane). So, it's like three adults in a king size bed. Sometimes, I will get on the computer, and if it's around 5am, I might go down and watch Dr. Phil. Problem is, once I get out of bed, I usually can't fall back asleep.

I usually read, it puts me to sleep every time, even if I fall asleep on the couch. I usually don't have that problem, my head hits the pillow at midnight and I am out until 6:00.

The TV usually puts me to sleep but I have to put it up so I don't hear my DH snoring! An Advil PM and a good book usually helps too!

I have a gameboy on my nightstand. If I can't sleep I play a little Dr Mario or Brain Age. It's quiet and helps me relax.

Well, I have yet to go to sleep. I HATE insomnia. Let's see I watch tv, even bought wireless headphones so not to both anyone else. I go online, clean, paperwork for work, read...

The melatonin really does work. I bought a bottle the last time someone mentioned it on here. My problem is I forget to take it til around midnight then it leaves me to tired the next morning. If I take it around 9pm and sit down and read til 10pm I will go right out. I have the best refreshing sleep. Just a matter of remembering to take the pill.

This only works if you're Catholic (jk): pray the rosary. The repetition of the prayers knocks me out every time and I never get all the way through it.

Ok, I must confess......I get up and eat, anything. Although potato chips are my favorite, the bag is too noisy to open up in the wee hrs of the night. I usually opt for a quiet type food such as toast with peanut butter or leftovers. It is a terrible habit to get into and then my stomach feels like crap in the morning from eating and then going back to bed. On an occasion, I have gotten up to get online and shop (another bad habit).

Usually I get up and do some laundry or other housework, then I'll try laying back down, and I'll catch up on shows on the DVR, or watch a movie.....this past week I can't sleep with a darn, but with a broken foot it's just too hard to get up and do anything so I just lay in bed and watch TV.

I cherish the quiet time in the house, with four boys there isnt any such thing as quiet time before 10pm, sometime either at or a bit after dh goes to bed then I either read, or watch a movie ect I eventually head up to bed about 2am normally and then up at 7 to start herding kids off to school

I do have to agree with you........the only true quiet time in this house is the middle of night when all are sound asleep!

It's funny you mention this. I talked to my family priest about feeling guilty because I would always fall asleep saying my rosary. I asked him if he thought it disappointed God. And he explained to me how happy it made the Holy Family for me to fall sleep with them in my heart and mind. Never felt guilty again.
