Unhappy My poor dog - healing vibes needed

I have a boxer Tyson and a miniature pinscher Delilah. On Sunday we got home from being out of town and let the dogs out with Mayson so that they could play. I bring delilah in to put her in her cage and all of a sudden Mayson started screaming mom Tyson needs your help. I go out there and his side is ripped completely open. Mayson said the dog next door did it while they were running up and down the fence. To make a long story short had to take him to the ER vet and get him stitched up. He has a cone collar and a 5 inch laceration that is stitched on his side. I do not know what happened but I do not think a dog could have done this much damage through the fence. None the less I will never know. He is doing pretty well so far but Mayson is having a lot of problems with it because he doesn't want to see it. My husband is out of town working so it has been hectic here to say the least.
Please send Tyson some healing vibes. He has to keep the cone on his head for 14 days until his stitches come out and needs to be leashed and kept calm until then. I am having a heck of a time with both of them!

Here is tyson with his cone collar

Poor baby. I'm so sorry about the accident. Does the dog next door have a history of being aggressive? Maybe part of the fence is sticking out (if chain link) and he caught himself on it. Anyway, I am sorry this happened. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Just went back to look at the stitches. Wow, that was quite an opening. What on earth could have happened?

Oh man, I hope he heals well. I think it's almost impossible for the other dog to do that, unless there is a gaping hole in the fence. You may want to look for even the smallest little piece of metal or wood fragment sticking out from the fence. It would not take more than a half an inch or so to cut him if he had scraped it while running or in this case it looks like jumping. My dogs do the same thing - run up and down the fence with the neighbors in the back. Just a weird accident.

I'll bet it scared you so much - looks horrible.

I have walked around the yard several times and cannot find any piece of fencing sticking out however there are trees that grow in between the fences that are short so I am thinking he got caught up on a branch. The dog next door has gotten him before on his nose however just a little scratch. So I wouldn't put it past the dog but I cannot say for sure it was her either. Whatever happened was bad and I never want to go through this again. I keep thinking it could have been Mayson so to be safe as soon as my husband gets home we are going to start building a privacy fence on that side. Mayson is the only one that was out there and said they were running up and down the fence and once Tyson got close she bit him but he wouldn't be able to tell if he got caught up on something and just assumed it was the dog. I think it is impossible for the dog to have done this through the fence as well. Who really knows just thankful that the dog is still alive and doing well.

Awww poor baby, It does look like he got caught on a fence or branch. No other dog could have made a long thin gash like that. I hope he gets better soon.

Did they give him any meds for possible infection?

Sending my love to him.

He is on 2 antibiotics and a pain pill. The original wound was not a long gash more like a round gash about the size of your two palms together. It was however long and quite big. I was a nervous wreck!

maybe a tooth caught just right but I'm thinking more something along the fence too. I hope he gets better soon. I do like the cone picture looks like youd given him his pain meds not long before you took the picture. Let Mayson know it's only temporary and he'll be back to his old self real quick! And I think Tyson needs an extra doggy snack or 2, he looks like a sweet boy.

seems that if it were a fence or a tree branch it would have been going along his torso not up and down.unless they were playing and he jumped up and got caught (ive seen this happen with many dogs/cats i worked at a vet clinic for many years)got caught and hurt him that way

That's a really big wound to have to heal from, but your pup looks strong enough to do it. He's going to need a lot of love, good food, and soothing touch from you and your kid. If Mayson knew enough to alert you, I'm guessing that won't be a problem for him. I can be pretty squeamish, but for someone you love, you learn to deal with that sort of thing, and I'm sure you both will. Sending wishes for a quick, easy recovery.
