Anyone here without TV?

I grew up without television... There were televisions (I'm not that old!) but we did NOT have one.

I remember going to visit my grandmother/grandfather. They loved it because we'd watch TV and be quiet for 24 hours a day if we could!!! My parents allowed us that much. ANY time that we went to people's houses with TV, we were in 'hog heaven'.

As an adult, I can no longer stand to read (got incredibly burned out on it as a child) but do very much crave being outdoors -- I just can not stand being cooped up inside. Also, I watch very little television; maybe 30 minutes a day? That feels like the main outcome of it for me...

I am NOT raising my kids the same way... they have video games and watch television. Basically unlimited although I'd say neither plays or watches more than an hour or so a day?! However, neither one of them craves the outdoors like I do.

I do spend a lot more time then I should on the Internet!!! My dad just scratches his head!!!! That's another topic though!!! LOL.

Many people that I know, honestly plan their lives around the television schedule.

Anyone else have an experience to share?

We have a 19 in in our bedroom that basically collects dust, i usually turn it on to see about school delays.
My son has our old 27 in in his room but his game system is hooked up to it or he uses it to watch movies. My husband had to have a monster plasma flat screen, which with his schedule he watches a few hours a week and then only baseball or the stock channel, I love the DVR, record everything, fast forward through the commercials and boring stuff and turn an hour show into 20 min. I have found i watch it more now that i dont work but i do try to not let the couch get an imprint of my butt.

No cable or satellite.
We do have several TVs in the house. We buy and watch lots of movies and TV series. Usually put in something for the whole family at nights.

We watch tv now, but I went through a phase (for 10 years) where I did not watch tv with the exception of a show called 30 Something, it was the only thing I watched. My oldest then watched tv whenever she wanted in her room, we had tv's they were just not turned on much. During that time, my now 22 year old DD did not watch tv except at my mom's house until she was about 6-7, she now does watch tv, but not huge amounts. As a teen she didn't watch much tv at all, but now that she's getting older she does watch more. My 12 year old watches tv when she wants.

DH and I have 4 TVs.
Living room, bedroom, office, and dining room/kitchen.
DH watches a lot more than I do but we both enjoy certain programs.
He mostly watches the news channels, the History Channel or Discovery Channel and it seems he HAS to have the TV on constantly.
I watch a lot of HGTV & TLC but don't need or want it on all of the time.
There are a few shows we do watch together.
We rarely watch movies and never play games.
Since we are seldom in the same room together, we get along quite well!!!
Lately we are in the car more than the house!

We have a small TV in the glove compartment, but hardly ever use it.
And of course we have one in the RV!

Nope, always had one. We have a 13 year old 19" in our bedroom that we listen to the morning news on while getting ready & watching Jay at night before going to sleep. We have a 42" plasma in the family room. We don't watch too much TV really. We have a dvr so we can record shows like Lewis Blacks Root of all Evil and The Biggest Loser (my son has to go to bed before it's all over). We used to record LOST and CSI but never found time to watch them. We also like Dream House (when it's on)

I cut off cable a couple years ago when the bill kept increasing every month... $2 here, $6 there, we had changed our cable package one time so it was around $120/mo and it crept up to around $160, and since we rarely watched it (except the kids, they watched a lot of cartoons) I said ENOUGH!

We have cable now because basic cable is only about $2 more than we'd pay if we had only cable internet... but we actually have expanded basic due to the cable guy not putting a cable trap on

I have no idea what's on TV these days, if I hear of something that sounds interesting I try to find clips on YouTube... we were invited to someone's house to watch some season premiere of Lost and I had to Google it to find out what it was about

We have several as well. A new 55" (I think that's the size) in the living room/great room. This one is hooked up to the satellite dish, DVD player and VCR. We have a 25" BOSE TV in the basement, when dh is down there cleaning his guns he watches whatever gun shows he has DVR'd. We also have a 19" upstairs that we watch the morning news on (also on the satellite). The girls each have a TV in their room BUT, oldest's is the TV/VCR we take in the RV, and youngest's is the 35" we replaced with the 55". And they only have their little game controllers hooked up to them, so pretty much when they watch TV, it's on the main one.

Heck I even have a little b&w on my kitchen counter hooked up to DirectTV and I am waiting til they bring down the price on this

Tracvision Digital satellite system - Quality Mobile Video has the Tracvision A7 Satellite TV*system

I can't afford $2499.00 for DirectTV in the car but when I get that lottery I will have it.

I was surprised to find recently that Sirius has some kind of TV thing now... a few channels, and I think things are made just for the car - short cartoons for the kids so you don't have to wait a half hour til the show's over. I don't know what that costs though lol
