"Ooh, ooh that smell. Can't you smell that smell?" Self tanner ???

It's been years since I've used a self tanner because of that nasty rotting vegetable/someone needs to wash their feet smell associated with them. I broke down yesterday and bought the Dove self tanner moisturizer because I had a coupon. At first when I put it on I thought it smelled good -- a little too perfumey for my taste, but not terrible. Well, now that it's dried and the added scent has worn off, pee-eew! All I can smell is that nasty self tanner smell. I want to take a shower and scrub myself raw!

Has anyone found a good self tanner that doesn't stink? I would love to hear what you've used that worked well. Thanks.

Well I can tell you NOT to buy Coppertone Endless Summer sunless tanning foam ($13.99 for 3.7 oz) or Banana Boat ($6.99). Same deal with both.

I just purchased Bath and Body Works "Breathe Calm 24/7 radiant moisture gradual tanning body lotion in 'tranquil lotus blossom'" - I'm actually going to apply it now, and will let you know what I think in a few hours!

The newer tanners don't seem to smell at first, but develop the scent with time, either on you, or in the tube. I don't think there's any way you can avoid it, because you do need the active ingredient.

I bought a bottle of self tanner at Walmart. It is a big bottle and it does not smell. I will post the name of it when I get home.

It is called Malibu Hemp Golden Glow

I haven't found one that doesn't smell after you put it on. Doctors tell us not to go to tanning salons, don't get out in the sun, use sunless tanners!! Then give us one that doesn't stink us up!!! I put some tanning lotion on my legs before I went to a wedding last fall and it was raining. The rain made the lotion stink even more!

What I can't understand, though, is we're told to use tanning lotions but my thought is -- it doesn't protect us from the sun's rays. So if I go to the beach with tanning lotion on, I'm going to burn!! How does that help me? Whereas, if I go to the tanning salon one or twice a week, I have a nice base and then when I'm out in the sun, I don't burn.

Another thing -- would you ladies tell me how you put it on over your entire body? I want to look nice all over -- not just legs and arms. How do you get your back, etc.?

I think I'm going back to the tanning salon!!

For face and neck, I use Olay Regenerist 'Touch of Sun' with SPF 15

No smell that I notice and the self-tanner is very subtle... Actually, the tan that I have might be from the sun ( although I do wear a wide brim hat!) so I'm thinking of getting a higher SPF to put on top.

Use tanning lotion, then USE SUNSCREEN WHEN IN THE SUN, don't burn and protect your skin.
Really, you never thought about using sunscreen? Do you use sunscreen on your children?

Honey, my children are 25 years old! Are you kidding me? Yes, I thought about using sunscreen and still use it when I'm out in the sun even with a tan. I'm just saying that with sunless tanning lotion you can't get an overall tan that looks nice and natural (unless it's from a total spray (professionally). You can't go out in a swimsuit with sunless tanning lotion on without missing some spots. Plus even with sunscreen you can get burned. My DH knows all too well about that. No matter how much lotion he puts on at the beach, he'll get burned. So why not go to the tanning salon, get a nice base, avoid a burn, then use sunscreen when you're at the beach or at the pool??

And no one answered how they get the sunless tanning lotion over their entire body (with the exception of the professional spray ons).

You can count me in as one that has not found a sunless tanner that doesn't stink yet. I used to use the Neutrogena sprays in the yellow bottles and it worked really well on me, but *gag* !!! I work in a drugstore and several years ago I had a lady tell me she used Clinique self tanner that you get in the mall, but I always thought that stuff was too expensive to buy if it didn't work on me. She had nothing but good stuff to say about it though.

Most of the tanning lotions these days have a time release smell. You buy it at the store because you think it doesn't smell, then after about an hour, it hits you!
