spin off of a spin off...Best & worst campgrounds

Best camp ground :

Frontier Town: Ocean City, Maryland Camping

This place is super great ! They have a fishing and crabbing pier, wter park, bus to the beach and Assateaque Island, MD. Clean restrooms, attentive staff..etc.

Walmart down the street.

worst:

Kings Dominion | Virginia's Premier Themed Amusement Park (Richmond)

Oh my Lord, this place the pits ! The camp spaces so close together, I could hear the dog in the next spot breath. He snarled and hissed at us every time we left our camper. There was a tree blocking our door.

The pool was dirty, the playgound just some cement culverts painted primary colors in the ground..

Kids running around unsupervied.

This was in Richmond, VA btw..

no stores nearby for supplies.

Oh my, I don't know where to start. We usually try to camp in National Parks or State Parks which all seem to be very nice.

My favorite campgrounds were:

Palo Duro Canyon State Park

There was a state park that was on the Apalachian trail in Pennsylvania that we stayed at. It was lovely! I can't remember the name of it now, but it was in a town that started with a "C" that ws near Gettysburg. I wish I could remember. Maybe I will look it up and see if I can find.

I had read about that Frontier park in Maryland. We almost stayed there. It looked like fun!

Yellowstone state park in Blanchardville, WI. Nice out of the way state park that is not visited very often. Has a nice lake, good fishing and campsites are very private.

Rock Cut State Park in Rockford, IL is nice as well. Very clean bathrooms, campsites are smaller, but nice.

Dinosaur National Monument in Colorado. Absolutely amazing!!! Campsites were wide open, however. But we loved staying there.

Whitewater State Park in Minnesota. This place is Fantastic!!!

We've camped at Devils Lake, Wisconsin and it was okay. But oh so beautiful.

My least favorite was a Yogi Bear campground in Indiana on the way to Pennsylvania. Yuck. Can't remember the name, we just stopped unexpectedly cause we were tired of driving.

I tend to not like the KOA's, just because I really enjoy the state and National park campgrounds. They seem more private and most are very, very clean.

We only camp at undeveloped places. No bathrooms (although a lot of people have built "outhouses" in nature) no garbage cans. It's funner that way.

oh, speaking of Yogi bear campgrounds...Jellystones I think they are named ? We stayed at one in Va. Oye vey ! They had a surcharge for EVERYTHING! Fishing,,....$2 to fish, and $2 for every fish you caught...the campground was up a HUGE hill..the campsites tight and cramped..We went in the spring when it poured down rain which may have made the place more of a let down.

Lake Rudolph in Santa Claus IN

Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort

They are adjoining with Holiday World theme park where all soft drinks are free! The campgrounds are wonderful. You can rent a cabin, RV, deluxe RV, or campsite - rent golf carts to ride around the park, playgrounds, miniature golf and a gorgeous lake! We have had many fun vacations there.

worst one we were ever at was lakewood at myrtle beach . they have rules but no one followed them . kids running around in golf carts running through your site , knocking stuff over. the sites was sooooo close together that when we parked the rv, the door was about 6 inches from hitting the camper beside us. the one on the other side had a screen room that was right against that side of the motor home. quite time was 11:30 pm until 7 am but you couldnt tell it. kids blasting the radios all hrs of the nite. had to leave the t.v on just to drown out the drunks in the tent behind us who thought they could sing. the more they drank, the louser they sang!forget the bath house, there was teenagers having sex in there the only time I went.thank god we had a full bath in the motor home.NOTHING was safe outside unless you were there with it. we had to bring the chairs, floats, even the sand toys in when were not out there with them. we stayed there3 summers and then went to priate land which was totally different. nice and quite. they have little lean tos on the sites that you hook your awning to . grassy sites, with lots of room between the sites.
another good one is green mt park in the foot hills of n.c but you have to buy a membership at that one.

Compton Ridge Campground in Branson Missouri was one of the best. They had the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen in a campground, plus family activities - BBQ dinner, breakfasts, crafts for the kids. They also had a really cool pool the girls loved.

Kentucky State Parks are really nice.
There is a KOA in Cherokee, NC, which is on the southern side of the Smoky Mountains that is very nice.
Fairly wooded areas and 2 swimming pools. One is an indoor pool.
When we were there they had a super steak and fish meal on the weekend and it was very reasonbly priced.

No, that's not it. I am asking my husband right now.

Okay! Found it!
Caledonia State Park, a Pennsylvania State Park near Chambersburg

I love the Ga state parks. N Ga is great in the fall. Skidaway was fun. Great playground almost no one around. I imagine the bugs would be bad later in the season.

My favorite place that I would love to go again was the KOA at flathead lake in Montana. I was a great place but mostly the view was unbelievable.
