As I said before , I am a SUCKER........

Ok, so a few months ago, my daughter brings home a stray dog, that she just "couldn't" pass up. Fast forward, we have put up a privacy fence to keep the other stray that she just couldn't leave behind. In the midst of building said fence, stray number 2 gets out. She comes home limping a few days ago, I say she is fine, lets give her a few days, she is probably just sore or something. Daughter #2 takes it upon herself to take her to the vet to get her fixed, apparently she is now a permanent family member (unbeknownst to me). I then get a hysterical phone call from DD #2 telling me that we now owe the vet $700+ dollars because her leg is shattered, and now has to be amputated. I flip my lid, tell her we are already broke, she then tells me not to worry, her and DD#1 are splitting the bill. Holy cow. What have I raised? We are nothing but a bunch of bleeding hearts here.

You have raised some very sweet, caring young ladies there!

That is not only very mature, but also is a testiment to what you have taught them!

Hats off to your bleeding hearts there!

You have definitely raised some awesome girls thats for sure. They show just how wonderful they have been raised. I do hope the dog is doing well and that DD's keep up the great work in caring for him/her. Trust me I am a sucker too when it comes to animals especially cats and its all I can do to not get the kittens and mom from under my shed and bring them in the house.

Everyone should have such problems with the children they are raising!

You are a great mom.

I feel your pain. When DS #2 was in college, he had a strong desire to sponsor a child through Compassion. I told him that was a great idea...but to wait until he out of college and could afford it. You guessed it....a month later he's all signed up and sending money to help someone else. How can you yell at them????

That is such a sweet story. You have done a wonderful job raising your children. I remember doing similar when my folks had no money and their reaction was much the same... Somehow, we pulled through and the animals had a LONG life filled with lots of love and laughter. I think that as a mother, I only can hope that my children will turn out the same way. Kudos to you all and happy healing for the lucky dog (OUCH!)!

They are 18 and 20. They have also now purchased an electric dog fence thing to go around the privacy fence, excluding the patio , for the beloved dogs, complete with shock collars. Let me also add that we have 6 cats, all fixed , fat , and happy. I am sure my neighbors just give thanks for me every night!!

Also need to add, after each and every cat was brought home, I told them this was IT, NO MORE!!!!! It got me nowhere. I'm just hoping that now it's hitting them in the pocketbook, it will slow down. They also put a pile of dog food out on the front porch every night " for the poor dogs that don't have a home". The worst part is we live in a nice neighborhood, slapped right in the middle of the country. So all my neighbors like to think they are uppity, and here we have our own personal petting zoo. I am sure we are outcasts.

You have taught your girls compassion and how to love...it seems unconditionally. Get used to it, I see many more strays in your future.
