Angry Nail polish on carpet

I'm so mad at not so DD. She spilled hot pink/purplish polish (which dried immediately) on her new bedskirt and the 4 month old carpet. I've Windexed until my knuckles and fingers hurt. The worst spot of the stain is down the shaft of the fibers. The rest is more surface stain. I just talked with my Dad that does work for one of the local carpet companies. He called one of the salesmen and he said the only thing to do is have it patched with a plug of new carpet.

Did you try using nail polish remover? Not sure how it would work, just wondering if you tried it or maybe heard it would be a bad thing to do.

I tried it on the bedskirt with no success. I was afraid to try it on the carpet. I Googled and the suggestions were dry cleaning solvent (which we all have!!), shave cream and Windex. The shave cream didn't work either. Windex was so-so. We'll just have it patched.
I know it was an accident. But it was just the ho hum attitude of DD that angered me so bad. It's just carpet, nothing to get upset about. Old carpet, true. New carpet, I don't think so.

If you're going to have it patched, might as well try the polish remover first. I got a blob of deep red polish on a pale blue shirt, tried nail polish remover to get it out, and failed, so I tossed it into the back of the closet. DH found it, washed it (I'd been afraid it would set it), and the mark disappeared. I'd at least give it a try. And I'd take the nail polish, but I'm mean like that.

I am so aorry this happened to you! It makes me feel pity for my poor Mommy. I don't remember specific details but in the 70s we spilled nail polish too!

I googled "how to remove nail polish from carpet" and this is just one of the pages that came up

How to remove nail polish from carpet

Good Luck! And maybe you should make her pay for it so next time she uses the kitchen table or does it oustide or even better yet at one of her friends' houses LOL.

FTR, I only paint my nails (actually, toes only) in the kitchen or outdoors...I would implement that rule right away. accidents do happen. can you move the bed or something a bit to cover the stain? If its going to be plugged anyway, try the nail polish remover on a rag, scrub scrub scrub and do it again...cant hurt much now...
When our house was brand new, a magic 8 ball exploded in DS's room on his "shadow" (meaning light grey) carpet, leaving a purple stain forever. One by one, we converted to hardwood, and tile in kitchen and bathroom

I'd try to first get as much of the substance out with nail polish remover. If it's damaged anyway, might as well try it!

Once you're down to a stain remaining (as opposed to actually having a glob of polish), I'd make a solution of Borax and water - hot water. I'd pour it on the stain and really saturate the carpet in that spot, and let it sit there for about ten minutes.

Then I'd take several bath towels and fold them over so that you have about ten layers worth of towel. Lay that on the saturated/stained spot, and then put a lot of weight on top of the towels - heavy books, etc. Let it stay there for about 24 hours.

Hopefully, the stain will wick up into the towels with the liquid.
