I found the photo disturbing. Her back and arms look like the body parts of a child, not an adult woman. It's clear looking at her that she's still very much developing, physically, and not 'of age'. That's a huge contrast to the provocative pose she's in... obviously topless and braless, a satin sheet strategically placed over her front. Her hair and makeup leave her resembling someone whose bed partner just got up to go to the bathroom. But of course, someone with the body of a child (because she is a child) shouldn't be posing as though she's sitting in the sleepy afterglow of a sexual encounter with tossled hair and smudged lipstick. |

Why would a grown woman, photographer think it was okay to photograph a child like this? Miley is embarrassed by it now because there has been such an outcry about how wrong it was. I am more upset by the adults in her life not stepping in and saying this is wrong! Recently she mentioned about her good values and such...to me these photos are a complete contradiction to the values she claims she has. |

| Very true! However, what is disturbing is the implication of being in a bed sheet with her whole backside showing, tossed hair and the lipstick.... Just not appropriate for a 15 year girl who is suppose to have this squeaky clean image...an idol to 5 and 6 year old little girls...

Supposedly, what I heard and who knows if it's true, was that her parents were there for the photo shoot, but had left when they took this one. Makes me wonder if the photographer was trying to get away with it (which she obviously did). I heard that Miley got all caught up in the shoot and it just gradually went farther and the photographer told her how artistic they were. It wasn't until she saw them later that she realized what they looked like. If all that's true, I could see how it could happen, not that I agree with it, though. On the other hand, it could be well planned to start her transition between child and adult. It seems it always seems to start with a scandal! Lisa

Well the part that disgusts me is that her hair and makeup looks like she just came from a wild adventure and the bed sheet makes it even worse. She had clothing on underneath it all but I think it was inappropriate for grown adults to do all of this to a 15 yr old whose NOT old enough to see all of the right from wrong in the world and is still learning from her mistakes. I think they are just attracting predators to her and jerks of that nature. That is what I am disgusted about, anything to make a buck. |
| |||

Not the smartest move on her part but I thought they were ok. What was her grandma thinking? was she thinking? What was Annie thinking? Now if people would just shut up about it it will go away and she will have learned a big lesson.

ETA: Also, a 15 yo wearing make-up doesn't disturb me at all. In this picture, though, the smudged lipstick makes it look like she's been making out...topless and in satin sheets. What's the 'message' there? If she was in a plaid skirt and a polo and Mary Janes, the message would be "Look at Miley, headed to parochial school!" If she were in a swimsuit with a beach ball under her arm, it'd be, "Look at Miley, headed for the beach!" If she was in jeans and a sweater, it'd be "Look at Miley, headed out with her friends!" Why portray a 15 year old underage girl as though she just had a roll in the hay? I don't blame her, personally - I think the adults in her life are the ones who should be pulling on the reigns in such situations. |

I agree as well. No biggie here. My kids have seen it on TV and didn't give it a 2nd glance. They asked who it was and why it was a big deal. I probably have the only kids who don't know/care who she is. I don't think it's the most appropriate photo but I would MUCH rather see this than the crotch shot of some of the other girls children look up to I just wish the media would stop making such a fuss over nothing

It's so bizarre to me how kids do seem to be addicted to vicariously *being* a specific movie star. Hannah Montana wigs and costumes were the big sellers on eBay this past Christmas season. For whatever reason, kids do seem to emulate her. Unfortunately, I have a feeling this may be the beginning of a spiral for her that leads to those very crotch shots you're talking about. Remember the squeaky clean Britney Spears and all of her "I'm going to be a virgin when I get married!" interviews? It doesn't seem like the real life of a "Disney Girl" mirrors the image of innocence they spend so much money creating. |
| |||
|
I just want to know why Annie (photographer) seems to be coming out of this squeaky clean. All the fingers are pointing at Miley, her family, and Disney. But what about the adult who was snapping the photos to begin with??? I don't care if you are this artsy big time photographer who has shot photos of the Queen...you still ought to have enough sense not to take these kind of photos of a young girl! I think Annie knew exactly what she was doing and that she could skate out of it by claiming it to be really artsy. Another part that bothers me....Miley has commented that Annie was controlling the shoot and directing her...and that you dont' say no to Annie. Everyone is completely missing the part where there is a child being directed by an adult to do something that turned out negative...and the child thought she couldn't say no to the adult. There is a HUGE lesson for everyone with a child....and one for Miley to learn as well. Just because an adult tells you to do something, it doesn't mean you should or that its ok to do it! Yes, I know thats a fine line to teach, but its a topic that does need to be covered that gets hugely overlooked! |

This photo shoot was all wrong. The question isn't whether Miley was showing too much skin, but what story the picture was attempting to tell. The parents and overseers needed to look at the implications of the photo. Annie L.'s pictures might be "art" - but art isn't a good excuse for compromising the image that has been so carefully crafted for her millions of young female fans. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??? I'm not buying the part about Miley's parents being away from the set at the time of the photo shoot. Does that really mean that they and her reps didn't still get the final say/approval over what was to be used? Come on - all of these contracts are so carefully written now with savvy lawyers. Her repuatation is worth what is now being called BILLIONS - who would have so carelessly allowed that image to be compromised? Annie L owed nothing to Miley - she does what she does - she takes provocative pictures. No sense in blaming her. It was stupid to allow her to be involved - did anyone in Miley's inner circle really think she'd make something that was artsy and innocent? It way too premature to have tampered with her image - Miley appeals to TWEENS - that's her target audience. Why was anyone in her inner circle interested in pushing the envelope so far? It was a real disservice to her young fans to throw this out there - the picture of the girl with the smeared lipstick and bed head in satin sheets just doesn't coincide with the wholesome virginal image of Miley that she and her people are trying to sell. Additionally, I cannot even begin to describe how creepy I found the portion of the photo shoot with Miley and her Dad sprawled out together. |

|
While not the most appropriate photo shoot, I think everyone is making too much a fuss over it. There was an error in judgement and hopefully this will be a learning lesson for the Miley camp. She's still a sweet girl in my opinion and I feel sorry for all the bashing she has had to endure at such a young age.

I felt the same way. I was more creeped out by that than the picture everyone is making a fuss over. To *me* that picture looked more suggestive than the others. I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I see 15 year olds every single day less covered up than she was with the sheet. I personally see nothing wrong with the picture of her and her father. I thought it was well done. They are very close and just because they share a strong bond, does not mean its sexual. If people want to read into a picture that it is, then thats their right, but my mind just doesn't work that way. I think much of the problem it the *way* people chose to view the pictures. I didn't for one minute look at the picture of her with the sheet and think *oh my....she looks like she just had sex*, and I didn't view the picture of her with her dad as being sexual in any way. It wasn't any different than the picture of my daughter with her dad that was taken at her last father/daughter dance (it was of her with her dad standing behind her with his arms wrapped around her). I think the media is blowing this up to be something it isn't. I don't think for one minute she is headed down the same road as Brittany Spears because of a few pictures. Lets give this girl a break....

The dress she wore at the CMA awards when she was signing the duet with dad revealed more of her body than the picture did. (Don't care for the picture of her either, but what do you expect from vanity fair?) I didn't appreciate that dress, not at all appropriate for a 15 year old. Her breasts were almost out of the dress.

I think that if these photos were just of some random 15 yo and the photographer not Annie, that ppl would be very disturbed. There are definately some sexual inuendos in the pics. The photographer and parents would probably be investigated. There was just no reason for these pics. They are just too suggestive, no matter how "open minded' some think we should be.......it was just too far.
|
| |||
|
Do you really believe that the photographer and family should be investigated? For what? What exactly do you think they could possibly charge them with? I have pictures of my daughter and her friends in their swimsuits relaxing around the pool when they were teenagers, I would hate to think that I could face charges for taking them. As far as sexual inuendos....once again, I think its how each individual views the pictures. Perhaps to some the pictures were not in good taste, while to others they are artistic. Either way, I don't feel an investigation is needed. Perhaps being around teenagers all day at my job has jaded me a bit, but I just don't get what all the fuss is about.

I agree. While I didn't care too much for the Miley in sheet picture, it was the one with her Dad that really creeped me out too. In one of those Vanity Fair videos she has a sexy/pouty look on her face while posing with Dad. That's just gross! By the way, 9 year old DD is a big fan and she didn't like the sheet picture at all (she hasn't seen the other picture or videos). We happend to catch it on GMA one morning. My DD said "Miley should be embarrassed". |

I dont like the pic at all but it got her what it was suppose to achieve. LOADS OF ATTENTION.. Not that she was slipping or anything but to me that is what it all was about. getting her in the spotlight. any attention is better than no attention.

The point isn't how much we can *see* - it is what you see if you look beyond the picture, and figure out the suggestion being conveyed. It was staged pretty carefully. I'm pretty sure that A.L.'s intent was to depict exactly what people here describe. Anyone can view them in whichever way they choose. But if you stop to think about the photographer's intent, you might feel differently about whether these are appropriate for a 15 year old. JMHO |
| ||||

obviously this is something that people see differently. I choose not to read anything into it other than one of the world's best photographer's taking what she felt was a great shot. Others choose to immediately read sex into it. tomatoes, tomaatoes.

I don't think they were trying to create the image that her alarm just went off and she's worried that she's going to be late for school. I am guessing that most 15 year old girls - what's that, a freshman in high school? - don't sleep in the nude in satin sheets. Definitely, the picture was intended to be sexually provocative. That's what that photographer does - she pushes the envelope. As someone said, the photographer doesn't care about Miley. She cares about her own career, and she - the photographer - has to be savvy enough to know that if she could get the Billion Dollar Disney Girl in some sort of a 'coming of age' shot that she herself - the photographer - would have her own name splashed across the papers. All press is good, or so they say. |

Well...since you asked. What I see is a beautiful young lady, wrapped up in a sheet posing for a picture. She isn't naked in the bed with another person. She isn't just crawling out of the bed after having a sexual encounter. I don't read that into the picture at all. It all goes back to how we can look at the same picture and what we take out of it isn't the same thing. My problem is that because of this picture so many people are ready to give up on this young woman and already feel she is another Brittany in the making. I think that is a rush to judgement and very unfair... For my daughters 16th birthday I had a photographer do some shots of my two daughters. One of the pictures is of the two of them with a feather boa wrapped around them (you can see their bare shoulders). I love the picture. I think it is very beautiful, and was well done. Now, to some I am sure they might view it differently. Its all in the eye of the beholder. |

I didn't say I thought the family should be investigated. That's not what I meant....I was implying that because of who the family and photographer were...it was seen by some as "artistic" . I rrealize we all "see" something different in this "artistic" photo. The fact is that it's a pic of a 15 yo girl in a sheet with tousled hair and smeared lipstick. The implication is clear no matter what you want to say you "see". I was saying that in some instances these pics would be seen as provacative....which in my opinion they certainly are....and that there would be ppl that would wonder what exactly would make a person want to make their 15 yo look like this and maybe look into innappropriate behavior. Children are used all the time. And sometimes what seems to some as innocent, is anything but. We can probably know that Miley is not being used sexually by anyone.........but some random girl? Some ppl would wonder after seeing these photos. Melissa |

I'm with you , Momrajum. That is ridiculous!! Just how many people would want their 15 year old daughter on film in what appears to be nothing but a sheet?? Come on!! What is the point? Artsy nothing, a 15 year old should never be photographed like that! My daughters are 19 and almost 21 , and I would always expect them to have better morals and common sense than to want to display themselves like that ! I hope her parents catch hell for allowing it!

I haven't seen all of the pictures, and I just saw the one with the sheet and the one with Miley and her dad laying down with Miley sorta laying in his lap today, so i can't comment on all of them. When I first saw the one with the sheet, the first thing I thought of was the Faith Hill video "Breathe". That is totally what it looked like to me. I had to do a double glance to even realize it was Miley Cyrus. She looks a lot older in the picture and I guess I never would have imagined that would be her in that picture. I don't know what they are trying to portray exactly. I don't really know anything about this 'famous' photographer's work either. I do have to wonder though what would happen if someone off the street took photos like that and had the film developed at say Wal-Mart or Walgreens, etc. Would they be required to report the picutres as it's an underage child (appears to be, etc., in the photo--she looks older but not that old)? Maybe it wouldn't even be an issue; maybe the only thing they 'report' is suspicious nudity, etc. I would be leary of taking pictures like that though I guess as they seem inappropriate to me (that's just my opinion though and I respect that everyone has a right to their own opinion with their own children in these matters--it's not something I'd choose for my own family but to each their own). I guess I go back and forth with this picture as there is no real nudity or anything. I guess it's that everyone could 'imagine' with the picture; it does not seem appropriate for a 15 year old girl I think is everyone's hang up. And I do see that it can be seen as 'artsy' also by the photography world (I took several years or photography in college and I am a decent photographer, have more advanced equipment than your average person, can develop my own film, etc.,) so I don't know. Truthfully though, look at what most of the tweens and teens are wearing now--most of what you see in the stores show much more skin and body parts that Miley in a sheet. Not that that makes anything right. I guess it comes down to everyone having different 'standards' and 'morals'. The picture with Miley and her dad posed like that looks more like a 'couple' picture than father/daughter to me, but I don't think it's a major huge deal or anything to the extent that it's all over the news, etc.; I would not want a photographer to do a shot like that with any of my daughters with their dad, however. It does look a bit sexual in my opinion. Now, I haven't seen the other pictures and don't have time to seek them out right now, but I'll try and look tomorrow. I agree that someone in Miley's 'camp' had to approve these pictures, and I can't figure out what they were thinking. I suppose they were just so 'flattered' that this Annie lady (big shot photographer) was shooting Miley for 'Vanity Fair' (woo hoo) that they let their better judgment fly out the window (I'm guessing they got a little carried away with themselves and all, and didn't really come down to planet Earth until now and are realizing that the pictures might look a little overdone for a 15 year old girl that THEY keep portraying as squeaky clean). My kids watch Hannah Montana and listen to the music, and they even like Miley a lot, but I have discussed with all of my kids numerous times about not portraying anyone they see on television as their 'role models', that their role models should be their parents (and we do set good examples for our own kids), teachers, etc. They get it and know it's all an image to make a buck; we discuss this a lot as it seems more and more teen artists/actors, etc., are all over television these days. I truly doubt that this has 'ruined' Miley or her career. Compared to the other teen sensations that are out there right now (and most of the 20 somethings too sadly), Miley seems to have a good head on her shoulders. I'm sure they will use this incident as a learning tool for future situations that arise. I hope so anyway. If this was a maneuver to bridge Miley into a more adult version, that's just too bad that it was done at age 15; they should have known that a lot of her 'fans' (parents anyway) were going to be upset over photos portraying her like that. I guess it is a sticky situation though when you have a child star that appeals to such a young audience; the 'child' star eventually has to grow up and move on, I know we all realize that. I do wish though that if the Cyrus family REALLY does regret the pictures, that they would have spoken up and taken responsibility for their own actions, instead of placing 100% of the blame on the photographer or whoever else. If the parents would have just said, "Look, we made a bad judgment call, blah blah", I think none of this would have gotten to this proportion in the media. That's what happens when you live in the midwest. The doctor that I referred to was also the local abortion doctor, so I think that had something (most definitely) to do with it. My heart just went out to them. Both of them were good people, and really loved their children. There wasn't anything wrong with the photos, it was just another casualty in the manhunt, I think. |

The story you guys are talking about with the kids getting taken away from the Dr. and his photog. wife is a prime example of what I wrote about in my earlier post. I know someone actually that works for a major store in the photo developing section and they must look at all of the photos when developing them and are in turn to report anything suspicious like that (I don't know exactly what this company's rules for 'suspicious' are exactly). You'd be surprised actually what people will call CPS or DHS about (I used to be a casemanager with DHS so I know what I'm talking about), and since they are required to make a visit or follow-up with every single report,... You have to be totally aware of these things nowadays as there is always someone out there scrutinizing your every move as a parent, whether it's legitimate or not. There are some seriously over the top people out there; working for that organization certainly made me paranoid to some degree.

Going by the the pics and video posted in this thread this is how I look it at.Shes a star.Hes a star.There both making big money.Sometimes stars that are "hot" start out getting themselves more publicity this way.I really didn't see anything wrong with the pictures.Her dad looked very sweet giving her a kiss in the video.I saw nothing wrong with the position they were in .Nothing wrong with her laying on his lap.I use to sit on my dads lap when I was 17.So! I also use to lay with my dad on the couch when I was young.Sooo. All I have to say is she is dang lucky she has such a "hot" guy for a father! They are probably VERY close but not in "that way". |
