Yes, this story is straight out of a horror film. I too wondered how the wife didn't know anything about it. They did call the room a cellar, but you would think that she would have heard something or even questioned why the cellar was off limits. This madman had to occasionally go down there to bring her and the kids food. There wasn't one time that she caught him going down there? You would think that the daughter would be so enraged that she would have figured out a way to ambush the father when he came down. So horrific. I hope the daughter and her kids are able to somehow come out of this and live a normal life.

I may have mis-understood what I was reading, but I believe that their home wasn't a typical house. I think it was an apartment sort of a building, and they weren't necessarily on the ground floor or even living directly above the cellar/basement area. From what I read, there was a tiny little short door that had originally just led to a crawl space, and he had been - bucket by bucket - making a maze of rooms beyond that door. When he would leave the basement he would put a shelf of paint cans in front of the short door that led to where they were being kept. At least... that's what I understood. So tragic and horrible! |

I really have no opinion of the mother's honest or lack thereof, but the piece I read yesterday indicated that the dad would make the daughter write notes saying she was giving her child to the parents, and then he'd be the one home when a child turned up on the doorstep with a note in the daughter's handwriting. He had the daughter write a note saying she was running off with a cult when he first started holding her hostage, and the mom would've known her daughter's handwriting and would've believed it... so subsequent notes would be believed. |

Let's remember that this is a different country, with a different culture. Maybe this culture is geared around the idea that woman should be submissive and not question their spouse. Regardless...what a sick puppy this man is! The news articles keep saying the daughter is "deeply disturbed"---Well, of course she is! Her father has been holding her hostage and raping her for the last 20 years. I hate inane reporting... but I digress....This man should just be taken out and shot.

Okay, this guy first started raping his own daughter at 11, and has kept her locked away in a basement prison/dungeon for 20+ years. He has repeatedly raped her and fathers 7 children by her--one child dying within days of it's birth and him throwing it in the furnace to get rid of it (being both their father and grandfather ) He brings home 3 kids "left on his doorstep" and his wife doesn't question it----he only claimed ONE of the 3 had been "left by the daughter with a note saying she could not take care of the child." The other 3 children were kept prisoner in the basement/cellar---and had never seen the light of day/sun--had never been to school, etc. AND THE MOST THIS GUY COULD POSSIBLY GET AS PUNISHMENT IS 15 YEARS!!!???!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! This is a crazy world! All 6 of these surviving children will be touched negatively for the rest of their lives. The 3 who were allowed to live above ground will be sick knowing what a sicko their father/grandfather is, and will probably carry some unintentional guilt for being the "lucky" 3 who were not prisoners. The original daughter/mother of these children resulting from rape will never be normal....and will never live the life she should have and the 3 held captive will also forever be tarnished and, probably, never be able to love or trust normallly.I honestly say that we should let the 7 surviving victims be able to decide what this monster's fate should be....ON TOP of whatever meager justice their system of justice in that country allows.

Of all the questions wondering how on earth they managed being locked up in a dungeon almost, I wondered about the seven times that she gave birth. Alone? Was there any medical assistance at all? I just can't imagine what she went through. This story is so appalling.

Regarding the mother, I wondered how she could not know but as the details come out, it's possible she didn't. Her husband forced their daughter into writing letters so all the mother would think is that her daughter wrote her another letter. There wasn't any reason for her not to believe her husband's lies because he had an answer for everything. There was a padded room in the basement and that would muffle any noise. It's a huge apartment building and the mother said she stayed on the top floor and didn't ever go in the basement. If that's true, she couldn't have heard a concert going on in the basement. The father told the mother that their daughter came by and dumped the kids off and he showed her notes that the daughter actually wrote that asked her parents to take them in and the father said he wanted to adopt them. I can understand that the mother would never in a million years think her husband was a monster who had done what he did. Who would think that their husband was doing something like that all those years? He even had the door to their prison hidden and password protected! If he had died or become ill, they would have all starved to death down there. They would still be down there if he hadn't brought his daughter to the hospital to answer questions about the girl (his grandaughter who's also his daughter) who's so sick. I don't know why he thought that was safe for him to do but he misjudged her. She ignored his threats and told anyway. They say she's very sick too but haven't disclosed her illness. I hope they can help her. |

I wonder what his method was to who was the lucky ones to be brought upstairs and who had to stay in the basement. This is also the same country not sure how close to one another but a few years ago they found a girl that had been kidnapped on her way to school and she had a basment prison too, some how she got away

I think I read that this basement had a refrigerator and some sort of stove top for heating food. So, he could have dropped off food once or twice a month, as opposed to everyday. Therefore, he didn't necessarily go down there all the time. We also need to remember that his wife is in her 70's, so she probably isn't that active and leaving their home all the time. As another poster pointed out, if something would have happened to this man where he couldn't feed his captors, they would have eventually starved to death. What is so unbearable is that she had seven babies down there with no medical assistance and probably no painkillers. Can't even imagine. Don't think we have heard the last of this story. So sad.

Oh my gosh. If you guys have time, go and read all you can find out there about this story! The reason the three kids got taken upstairs was because they were crying (louder than the others apparently) and were 'more sickly' when they were babies/little is what the story said (I can't remember if the articles said at what age the kids were taken upstairs, but I think they were infants). The father was afraid that someone was going to hear them. Two of the 'lucky' ones that got taken upstairs were girls; I wonder if he was abusing them? I also wonder if maybe that is what is wrong with the 19 year old daughter that is in the medically induced coma now? I wonder if he was abusing her; it said something about lack of oxygen for a time period so I don't know. (I'm editing to add that I just read that it has something to do with her kidneys and lack of medical treatment, but I read in another article that she also had lack of oxygen, etc.). Apparently one of the kids had a twin that supposedly died right after it was born (they are speculating though that he might have killed it). The man said he burned the body in the oven (or some sort). The hideout that he was keeping them all in was only about 700 sq. feet total it says; oh my gosh--can you just imagine what it was like down there. The ceilings in most areas weren't much over 5 ft tall the articles said. Think about the fact that this man was raping his daughter down there in that tiny space on a regular basis with the 18 and 19 year olds (not to mention the 5 year old) basically in the same room (at least often enough to get her pregnant 7 times). You know they either saw it all, or at the very least heard it all, if they weren't having the same treatment done to them. I wonder about the 18 year old daughter that they aren't disclosing her condition. I would be willing to bet that he was raping her too and that is what is wrong with her. Just speculation though on my part, I haven't heard or read anything to back that part up. The article did also say that the authorities are searching the area to see if perhaps this man might have other hideouts as he apparently owns numerous rental properties/properties in the area. They are also investigating right now if he is involved in a murder of a young girl years ago that happened in the same area that his wife had some sort of restaurant/vacation business during that timeframe. I will bet you that they are going to find numerous victims and link him to many more muders. The articles I read said the mother of all of these kids (the victim/daughter that he was abusing) was so white and sickly from malnourishment. I know someone said something about the man's wife (victim's mother) being in her 70s and probably not knowing what was going on. But think about it--this went on for 24 YEARS!!! These people were in their 50s (or late 40s depending) when this began so surely the wife was getting around well enough at that point! They apparently had 7 kids of their own (and then the sicko father 'fathered' another 7 with his daughter)! The article said the kids that were imprisoned could hardly read or write and were having to gradually adjust to the sunlight as they had never seen the light of day. There are pictures of the 'basement' and they are just sad looking. I am so amazed that this lady had the will to live; I am sure her kids are what kept her going. I first thought that they should kill this sick man immediately, but I have since reconsidered. They should torture him every single day, numerous times per day in different ways until he dies of old age. I'm sure there is going to be s special place in Hell for this sad individual someday. I just can't imagine what kind of mental issues this entire family will be dealing with the rest of their lives because of this crazy idiot. I think the article said the father is now 73 (I may be off a year or so). Just think what would have happened to these poor people if this man had died as he is getting up there in years; they would have absolutely no way out of there at all, although there is speculation by the police that the man had to have someone helping him as the concrete door that was installed could not have been installed by one man alone (or so they assume). So sad. Last edited by sadarl; 05-02-2008 at 04:31 AM. |
