Gas prices now?

We just hit 3.75 here. Sucks, but at least I don't have to drive much. My truck had a special tow package on it (we bought used) and it has a 35 gallon tank, so it doesn't get filled up very often.

What is the average where you live?

Not sure of the "regular" gas price, I think I saw 3.65 this weekend? Our car takes premium though... I think that was $3.99 or $3.95 but just a few minutes away it was $3.85 (we filled up there).

There was an energy company, and it figures that I can't remember the name of it, but they predicted that our gas would reach $4 a gallon this year and well, it's damn near that. NOW they are predicting that next year it will reach up to $8-10 a gallon?!? I mean, are you serious! I won't be able to afford to go to work!

We are about $3.39-it just kills me! Instead of sending out the economic stimulus checks, Bush should have used that $$ to figure out how to get us cheaper gas! One of our local grocery stores that has an affiliated gas station had gas at $2.99/gallon as a promo for yesterday only. You should have seen the lines-it looked like the 70's all over again. Something has got to give!

We're hovering around $3.73. I never dreamed that I would see gas prices this high. Read a story this morning that it is becoming commonplace for people to sell family heirlooms and things around the house to afford gas and food. Items for sale on Craigslist has soared 70% since July. Just insane.

From what I understand, Bush has no control. It's not just the US that's getting hit. I read yesterday that Canada is really feeling the pinch, and Asian nations are, as well.

Most every nation relies on the Middle East to supply their oil needs, and they get to set the price per barrel.

And they've set it very high, not just for the U.S..

I'm trying to recall - didn't we open ANWR for exploration? And if so, how long was it going to be before that domestic source was available? And who profits from oil obtained in that region? The state of Alaska? The US government? I assume a governmental agency holds the minerals themselves and would receive the royalty, but the real expenses involved are on the production side, and I have no clue if a private corporation holds those leases, or if the government was going to invest in the pipelines themselves.

The estimates regarding how much oil could be obtained there varied widely. IIRC, some said only six months of oil for the US, and others suggested ten years worth. I assume that until test drilling actually takes place, it's all just speculation and supposition - on both sides - based on their political and environmental views about ANWAR.

Our rates are $3.57 for 100% petroleum based gasoline and $3.47 for the ethanol blend today.

$3.55 a gallon for the cheap gas. I turned in my 2 week notice at work today, right now I am spending $200 a month on gas to go to work (50 miles roundtrip), I only work 22 hours a week, add some child care to that for the summer (school ends here May 15th) plus the extra taxes we have to pay and it's no longer worth it for me to work.

Regular as low as $3.59 to high of $3.65 and Premium around $3.93..... I tell you its rough out there... I usually buy Exxon because of the Upromise, but I am now going to whomever has the least expensive gas.

I was told that if the government tried to control the price of gas the greedy people would just supply less of it to us.
It went up to $3.75 here yesterday This is with oil at $120 a barrel
Some guy on TV said that it was possible for oil to get up to $200.00 a barrel. I hope he is wrong.
What will that do to the prices?

Just wanted to add, the month before my baby was born 19 months ago, I traded my Tahoe (which was oh so fine) in on my Taurus. At the time, I was kicking myself for doing it, but I needed to get my monthly payment lower, and save on gas, because I knew I was going to take off the full 3 months for maternity leave. My Lord, now I don't know what in the world I would do if I still had it! My sister still has hers, and she said she had heard that you couldn't unload them except for to trade them in, and then take a loss. When I am driving in to work, I look around me and still see the good looking SUV's, and sometimes feel that little jealousy twinge, but then I look at my gas tank and snap back into reality!! What are yall doing that still have them??

I have a 2007 Grand Caravan, and it's about $57 to fill it up too right now (well, I haven't actually filled it up lately, ha ha so I'm guessing! Have just been putting in $25 or so here and there to get me by.). I have an economics degree and told everyone I know a little over a year ago we were going into a major recession; most people laughed at me. I totally expect gas to hit at least $6 a gallon within the next year or soon thereafter. It is hurting us greatly, as it is everyone else. If the government doesn't do something soon about the price of gas, I can't even imagine what everyone's situation is going to be shortly. If they think that people are losing their houses now, just wait. It is going to get to the point where you just work to pay for gas and food (which is skyrocketing too due to the gas prices and other things). Wait, it's already to that point for a lot of people! Especially if you have a large family. I'm getting more and more worried everyday. DH is starting to look for someone to carpool with. I'm at home except for taking the kids to their weekly activities so that helps; we do not do excessive driving, but we never did so that isn't helping much. I can totally see that it wouldn't be worth working if you had to drive a long distance, pay childcare, etc. I totally feel for all of those truckers out there that are paying thousands several times a week for gas. I imagine they are barely making it, if they are at all.

I feel he does have a bit of control-the gas companies are making record-breaking profits while the rest of us are feeling the pain. These companies are getting HUGE tax breaks=-how fair is that?

It is in my honest opinion that gas companies in the USA have no competion.

the only independent gas company we had a few years ago was citgo gas,

Originally oil is the usa was from Standard Oil

the government declared the company a monopoly.

It has split up into all the gas companies we use today but still

has many of the same families on the boards .

If we had honest business practices in the big oil prices would drop.

In 1911, the Supreme Court of the United States held that Standard Oil, which by then still had a 64% market share, originated in illegal monopoly practices and ordered it to be broken up into 34 new companies. These included, among many others, Continental Oil, which became Conoco; Standard of Indiana, which became Amoco; Standard of California, which became Chevron; Standard of New Jersey, which became Esso (and later, Exxon); Standard of New York, which became Mobil; and Standard of Ohio, which became Sohio. Rockefeller, who had rarely sold shares, owned stock in all of them.

You guys are lucky you don't live in California when it comes to gas prices. LOWEST price here (suburbs of Sacramento) is $3.93 for regular, and Premium is now 4.13 per gallon. YIKES!!!!! Luckily I live 1 mile from work and drive a 14yr old car.

We are sitting at 3.52/gal. My DH drives 100 miles each way to work Mon-Fri. I told him if it hits well over $4-5.00/gallon he may have to pay rent and live up north with his co-worker during the week. It's absolutely insane.

About $3.65 now for 85 octane. Diesel is about $4.25. I'm staying home a lot more than I used to. I feel gas will at least be at $5 a gallon next year. I'm encouraging DH to ride his motorcycle and ride his bicycle more into work this summer (10 miles one way) instead of his truck.

$3.95 now at most places. I did manage to fill up at $3.81 @ Kroger. After putting in $40 my next stop was the auto parts store wher I bought a locking gas cap. I have an older car that doesn't have an inside release and since I'm not parking in a garage anymore I thought I'd better be proactive.

I've seen $3.67 and $3.75 in my area.

DH used to deliver pizza back in the day. Back then you could survive on $5 of gas a week. Before I saw your post we were talking about the gas situation and he was wondering how pizza delivery people survive today. The price of pizza is going to have to go up to help you guys out!

Anyway, I remember when I got my first car in the mid '80s I was so cheap, I would only pump $3 worth of gas at a time. And that actually lasted me awhile. Crazy!

I saw $4.05 this morning in Illinois. I think I'm beyong being shocked. Does everyone else think that these outrageous prices is going to have an effect on crime going up? So many people, especially those in a low income bracket, are in a state of desperation that they will resort to stealing to make ends meet.

We have a delivery charge and that just went up .25 (and we don't see anything of it....Don't ask our Owner is sooooooooooo cheap. Can't wait until our manager buys the store) and unfortunately when people see the price go up our tips go down. We're considered "waiters" and depend on our tips to make up the difference. Some people don't see it like that and it really ticks us off. My feeling is, if can't afford to tip DON'T ORDER OUT OR GO OUT TO EAT! Sorry for the rant but that's just my opinion.
