What specific advice have you gotten here at the cafe that's worked for you?

I am so interested in how posters here have helped anyone - with the big problems/issues in life as well as daily little issues...

I don't remember who posted this (please come forward - I want to thank you!), but someone offered the following advice:

(For the little things) When washing jeans in the machine, before tossing them into the dryer, shake them hard first. It will help them dry better........ Well, it does - and with less wrinkles, too! THANKS!

And for the bigger things in life, I received so much support from so many of you - even if it was a simple response of "hugs" - when my dad got suddenly sick, and then when he passed away five months ago. I printed the things people wrote, and I still reread them all when I need to feel the support.

Curious to know about others' experiences...what advice have you gotten here that's worked for you???? (let's not bring up what didn't...LOL)

Gosh, there has been so much good advice, I just can't single out one thing. But the support has just been so amazing through the good and the VERY bad. Of course the secret buddies has had a good impact too-some of those packages have come on the worst days, and all of a sudden, everything was better! How long has the Cafe been open anyway? I just feel like we have all made some neat connections and I am very thankful for all of you. Lynne

I've learned so much from you, my friends.

Latest one that pops out is a post by dnj51 in the "How much to pay a 'friend' for a mural?" thread.

Dnj51 replied:
"Why not just accept the kindness and pay it forward?"

These words have really been stuck in my head for the past couple of days since it was posted. There has been a decision in my life that I've been wrestling with and the post really helped me to find clarity (thank you dnj). It's hard to explain without going into a lot of detail but, it really speaks for how I've been feeling over this decision.

There are many things that are similar... almost on a daily basis, something said by one of you really speaks to me.

Thank you all.

Me too! I can't think of one thing in particular. I think because we all come from such different backgrounds, that the advice we get is so varied and honest (what do we have to lose?) that it truly helps. Yall aren't the people that I surround myself with everyday, we all come from different walks of life. So obviously we come up with different ways of looking at things. I am also thankful for The Cafe! I would like to know how long we have been at it too! Thanks yall , for everything!!

Some of the best advice I have gotten was back in the Fall, when a 5th grade girl wrote on my 1st grader son's school bag ( very nasty sentiment). They prompted me to take the issue further then the principal, since I wasn't happy how it was being handled. After bringing it to the school board, they changed how kids were assigned seats on the bus, which has cut down on a lot of unneeded grief. Before kids were assigned seats in the order they were picked-up/dropped-off. Now it is according the their grade, and also children with extra issues sit in the first two rows behind the bus driver, to prohibit anyone taking advantage of them. All because someone on a board, gave me GREAT advice!!!

Another laundry hint someone posted was to run an extra spin cycle or two before taking your clothes out of the washer. I was shocked to find out how much more water was spun out of my clothes -- thereby cutting their drying time

Actually the OP, devinmom, posted about rinsing the conditioner out of long hair and it works. No more frizzys.
And I agree with ballmom that I like reading different takes on siturations. Everyone has different experiances so they see things in their own way. I like that. Makes me think.

Cuthie, you're welcome, I was given the same advise on a similar issue years ago - I want to thank who posted the idea to fill the coffee pot with the sprayer instead of using the pot. I wish I could give kudos, but I can't remember, but Thank You!

It was very hard to pick just one thing, as well. But if I had to, I would say the advice that was given to me years ago on how to make a coupon binder with a zip around binder, sports card plastic pages and then how to organize, clip and obtain multiples of coupons.

This has been invaluable throughut the years!

OH my! I need to follow directions. That advice wasn't given at the Cafe, it was given in TOT board!

Can I just say that someone from the YFB (now the Cafe) sent me there?

Sorry! I'm gonna go get some coffee now AND THEN READ.. LOL

The advice that people give on these boards are great in more than one. Alot of the advice I have seen I have remebered and it may not come exactly at that point but somehow the advice I see is used usually at a later date and time, when it really comes in handy.

THANK YOU TO ALL< that reply.

The one where people gave tips on giving yourself a pedicure and foot scrubs. It was very informative.

I can't say it was advice - but when I posted about expecting our fourth and no one that I know in real life was supportive and I was near a mental breakdown the support and love from these boards kept me going and seeing the postive. I wish I could have you all over when the baby is born to say thanks to al lthe MC aunties and grandmas!

I can think of a a few, but I am sure there are more!

The one about shaking jeans just blows me away and I am SO thankful to Toontown!

Using conditioner instead of shaving cream to shave legs

Use Visine on face to shrink pores

Although I don't post very often. I cannot begin to tell you all of the invaluable advice I get from these boards. I have asked several questions throughout the course of the last 6 years or so and have always received wonderful comments from you all.

I sure many of you can relate when I say that if you ever need any advice or recommendations you can always come to this board and post. Someone, usually quite a few, will post their experience with the situation posed.

This board is wonderful and I am forever grateful to you all. Although I have never met you, I feel like I have a supportive, yet objective family on these boards. Thank you all!!!!
