The phone rang bright and early this a.m. I got a job----as a PE asst Guess I'll be putting on my sensible shoes and heading out the door! Tell your kids to be extra nice to their subs today!

Tell us how your day went!

I remember whenever we had subs - we used to walk into the room and see the strange face and say, "Yeah - a SUB!!!"

I'm a sub. I don't like it most times. I'm not a big fan of other people's kids, lol. That said, it's great for now b/c I can work around my school schedule and stay home when I need to. Just have to find a summer job...

Congratulations, Lynn! I hope you had a super day! I'm a teacher, and I always tell the kids that if they give a sub a hard time, they're in double trouble with me.

How did it go? Hopefully, it was a fun day. I did a first grade class today - let's just say that I've been in there numerous times this year and today was the toughest. They are ready for summer... I could tell. BUT, very cute and sweet little balls of fire.

In our school district, PE assistants (ANY assistants) are considered 'classified personnel'. The *real* money is when you sub for a 'certified' position. LOL.

Are you signed up to do both? or maybe assistants are considered 'certified' in your district? I'm sure it varies.

Yes, we have the certified and the non-certified also-not really sure what I was today, I don't care, I'll take whatever they give me! I am signed up for both. One pays $8.xx per hour, the other pays $12.47 per hour, and if you get a permanent sub position that pays $16.xx-that's what I'm keeping my fingers crossed for. Anyway, it was a grueling day! Here was my schedule
arrive @school 8am
sign in/report to gym
given instructions for "4-square"
sat and waited til 8:40
took first class out for 4square, then recess (45mins total)
took second class out for same
had half hour break (came home and let the dog out to pee)
monitored the kids while they walked outside after their lunch (so difficult, sitting outside for 30mins. on a beautiful day)
45min. lunch break-again, came home-I was only 2mins. away
watched a Spongebob video w/ four classes (all at once) then took them out for recess
did the same thing w/ another grade
hung out til 3pm
checked out and went home

And I got paid for that????

now, keep in mind, except for the four square and the afternoon lunch walk monitoring, I did these activities w/ THREE other gym teachers. It was a fun day-except the 5th graders giving me funny looks and whispering about my lack of hair-lol...One snooty-patooty little girl came up and said, "We want to know why you wear that hat all the time!" (today was my first day there). I explained that I had it shaved to raise money for sick kids. Miss Prima Donna looked at her friend, and with hand on her hip said, "See, I told ya' she was bald!" DH got a kick out of that story....
But all in all it was a good day-thanks for your encouragement. lynne

Yeah, I LOOOVE doing PE. Here they don't have PE assistants, just teachers, so I get the whole $79/day. But they have soooo much free time, and I don't have to get mad at the kids for talking.
