Oh No!!! FLEAS!!!!!

Out of the blue I am having a major flea problem! We've never had this before so I don't really know what things work and what doesn't. With money being in short supply I need to know I'm not wasting it on something that doesn't work. Anybody know of products that will definantly kick some flea butt? I'm sure my growing menagerie will all have to be treated, and I wanted to do the yard and inside the house. My baby plays outside alot and I don't want him being bit by those nasty things. Help please!!!

When we have had problems with fleas, the only thing that has worked for us in the house is bombs. We set them off everywhere and more than the recommended amount. There are also things you can treat your yard with, but I am not sure what DH uses and he is at work. We also treated our animals and I would also sit and pick fleas off the dog about 3 times a day!Someone once told me to get some kind of Tar shampoo, I think that is what it was anyway, I think you have to get it from a groomer, but I am not sure. Sorry I am not much help, those things can be a real pain for sure!

We had this problem last flea season and we looked cures on the internet and solved our problem for a dollar. Go to the dollar store and get a jar of menthalatum or a jar of vicks and put one dot of it on the pet....under the neck or on the back of the neck somewhere where the animal can't lick and you can watch the fleas jump off. We had 5 cats and it worked on all of them.

Outside Ortho Max the liquid that you use with the garden house spray the whole yard down. Inside on the carpet borax sprinkle all over use a broom to make sure it gets in good let it sit for an hour maybe then vaccuum take the vacuum outside and empty bag outside. If you have hardwood or laminate floors you can do the same with the borrax sweep it into the cracks and crevices and you can try to vacuum it up. I tried the menthalatum once and it kind of worked but not so good. I seem to think there was a herb that you could put around the house to prevent them coming around but its name escapes me right now. HTH

I had used Raid flea killer. It comes in a purple bottle. It is a little pricey around where I live but it worked instantly!

We got fleas when we got our kitten 2 years ago. We tried the borax thing, but I have berber carpet, so it was really tough to tell if it worked. So we went to the vet and got some flea spray for the carpet. I think it was 20$, and you sprayed anything that was fabric, and once it dried, it was okay to touch. We also got frontline for the cats, treated them all once for a month. That was 40$. It worked wonders! I never saw a flea again!
We just got a new dog, and she is being treated with frontline every month because she goes outside. I think it was 60$ for 3 months. I know my solution isnt the cheapest of all, but for us it worked.

We use advantage on our pets and borax on the carpets. it works everytime. We get the advantage through petshed on line from Australia. I priced it e few years ago and they were cheapest but you may find it elsewhere now.

Interesting. You read that online as a remedy? Certainly a cheap alternative. How long would that last?

Yep That's the best way to go if you have kids! Borax will do it. We had this problem last year. Once you get your pets treated and the house treated with borax it will last as long as the pets don't bring them back in. Make sure you treat the pets and vacum a ton. Be careful with the vacum and make sure that you empty it every time you sweep because they will live in your vacum cleaner. Empty it in a plastic bag outside of your house and tie the bag.

Ok...just went through the exact same thing!!! Tried everything from flea carpet sprays, borax, having yard and house sprayed 2x by a professional, had heard if you put salt on the carpet that it would kill them also. I didn't want to do the bombs....eventually gave in when we couldn't kick them. I did it twice....and since then haven't had a problem! I say go with the bombs. I also use the frontline plus on the dog every month. Make sure you vaccuum the carpet every day though, and empty the bad or tunnel outside into a bag each time. HTH & GOOD LUCK!
