Pet I.D. Tags!

Yesterday, I went to my sliding glass door and there was a cat on my deck. Now the cat won't leave due to the fact that she's a female and I have a male so their "flirting" with each other through the glass. Since she is friendly, I looked at her and she was clean, declawed, and her back feet look like someone recently clipped her nails. Needless to say, now I'm nervous about if my cat ever got away, no one would know where to contact me so I was wondering if anyone knows of any websites where they issue free pet i.d. tags? Also, I put an ad in the local paper about the cat. If no one claims it what should i do? I have an 8 month daughter so that's a no go, and everytime I have to open the door the cat tries to get in.Thanks for the help!

On the kitty that came to your house do you have a local vet office or humane society that can scan the cat for a micro chip to find it owner? Also, ask around your town some places like the humane society will do micro chip id very cheap. Sorry no help on free id.

Hehe, that's what I was going to tell - our Walmart had 'em for $4.00 - did they go down? Either way, cheap and easy!

We have both our girls with tags AND chipped - just in case their tags/collars would come off.

The chips - I call 'em "Puppy lojack". Heh!

My MIL'S vet had a special where they would chip them for 19.99. I totally should have done it. Didn't have the $$ at the time, and meant to get back before we left.

Perhaps if you call around your town , you can find a deal

Here is a photo of my dog. The green tag is one of the Walmart machine ones. It has her name and our phone number. We also have her microchiped.

Do eBay search for pet tags if you need to. $2.75 with 'Buy It Now' covers engraving and shipping to your door.

All we put was dog's name and our home phone number. Any other information felt unnecessary since I'd meet them at a park or somewhere public to get our dog back anyway! Strangers do not need to know your home address...

At least your worried enough to tag your kitty too, most people dont seem to so you see these cats hit by cars and stuff along the road and cant even tell the owner since they let them out running alone they got hit and wont be coming back. Here you have to tag and register dogs and cats with the city.

Timely topic. I just ordered tags for my dog from Loveyourpets.com. They were a little over $5 shipped, but I could include medical information indicating that she needs daily meds. The extra few bucks were worth the extra lines of info!

Thanks for the tip - I just got our cat one for $2.50 shipped from ebay! My DD has wanted one for a while, but I had no idea where to go, or that they would be that cheap.

We got one at PetSupermarket out of the machine. I think it was $6 or something???? I need to get a few more, since we've grown a bit recently. I was at the vet yesterday, and saw some advertised by Pettags.com I think it was. They are engraved by handicapped people. I am going to check that out, since I like to support the handicapped when I can.

This wouldn't apply as much to cat, but for owners of more active dogs...you might want to use a sturdier ring to attach the id tag to the collar. The simple ones that come with the tags don't last long on our dog. I used a small (yet thicker metal) key ring to attach hid id to his collar. Its been on him for at least a year now! Considering that we used to have a heard time keeping his rabies tag attached for just a couple of months, that is a huge improvement!
