Surgery was today

DH had surgery today and he has a titanium plate and they aspirated bone marrow from his hip and we are going to watch the disk above the fusion. He feels that DH will have a full recovery no more tingling and electrical shocks down his arm and neck and no more dropping things. DH was moaning about the fact they catherized him and that his throat felt like a porcupine and I told him he was lucky he was in a neck brace because I would put him in one at the rate he was complaining. I warned him about all this ahead of time since I had the surgery too although I dont have the titanium plate. DH isnt too happy about the fact he is not allowed to ride roller coasters anymore Doctors orders

He will come home tomorrow and the anesthesiologist really wants his COPD evaluated by a Pulmonologist and his sleep apnea evaluated for a CPAP said he hasn't heard this junky of lungs in a person and them not be on oxygen or CPAP at night. Trust me I tell DH he wheezes a lot and he says he doesn't and that probably because of his high frequency hearing loss. I think the COPD is why he is tired a lot but he thinks I am crazy.

I left DH about 2 pm I was hurting so bad, I had to walk a lot and boy I wish we had the lift on our escape for my scooter I could have used it, I almost collapsed in the way to the car my legs hurt that bad , but I got home and collapsed on the couch and then came to bed and have been here ever since, Stefan came home from school and has been back here ever "taking care of me" watching cartoons and beating my fat butt in Monopoly !! I was going to order Pizza out for dinner with a gift card Grammie gave us but before I could do that Stefan went into the kitchen and brought me spaghetti-o's he made for dinner bless that kids heart he takes such good care of me and DH, I don't know what we did to deserve such a wonderful kid I wouldn't trade him for the world.

DH is supposed to come home tomorrow I will try to see if I can snag a wheelchair and wheel myself up to the room this hospital is like a miniature city now and my legs just cant handle it and my poor cane can only hold me up for so long.

I better go Stefan just challenged me to another game of Monopoly I guess I will let him stay up a little later tonight and this time I will beat his scrawny little butt !!!

Thank You again for all your support and prayers

Sounds like a long day for you, but glad to hear that it's over with and that he will have a decent recovery. Good luck w/ that monopoly game-sounds like you're going to need it!

I will be heading out at about 9 am as soon as Stefan's bus is gone to pick him up I still hurt this morning, but I don't dare take any pain medication because I know I wouldn't be safe to drive gonna just try some Ibuprofen to see if I can get it to take some edge off.

Several of the neighbors came by after 8 pm last night with cakes, food, cards, offers of help around the house (I am taking them up on it for sure) and to see how it went and one even brought by a Grocery store gift card for $100 I was in shock. I woke up this morning to see a card on the windshield of the car and it had $20 in it from an anonymous resident said hope you can use it and that our resident manager is a "bleep" to do what he did hope that this little bit helps. Guess the word got around about DH's firing and surgery huh?

Yes I do have a Fantastic kid, for all his little quirks he is sure a blessing to us. Our 22 yr old has offered to come out from Denver and help out I just cant have him here, I cant deal with a non-medication compliant Bi-polar child he truly is still very child like the program we put him in just didn't do him any good imo and I am saddened by it.

I better get moving get dressed and ready for the day, Stefan is up dressed and ready for school.

I have back issues also (DDD, Arthritis, 3 Herniated Discs, Foot drop due to a severed nerve from it being pinched between two discs) I have heard real horror stories from people that have had this done. They say that their pain is WAY worse and they wish they had never had it done. I was told I needed it and flat out refused. I would rather be in a wheelchair than have that surgery, and that's what they are threatening me with. I think sometimes surgeons just wanna cut, and they will tell you anything to get you to believe you need it.

I am having a spinal cord stimulator implant however. I have done the research and it has a 90% success rate. Because you get a trial period with it before you get the actual implant. You also get the chance to decrease your pain meds, which was a big factor for me. I am on a lot of medicine for pain and would like to get off it completely, but I know that will never happen because I will always have pain. And even with this I may still end up in a wheelchair because this only deals with the pain, not the underlying cause.

Hubby may have the "recovery" they are saying, because the things they are talking about are dealing with nerve inpingement(sp). Not pain. I am not saying he won't get releif, just please don't be dissapointed when he has the same if not worse pain from this. It is very common. As I said, I researched this option alot. I would like nothing better than to get some relief from this misery. But I am not willing to take that particular chance as I do not like the odds.

I am not trying to scare you or be a "naysayer". I just want you and hubby to be prepared in case the above happens. You should be ready with your PM doctor and let him/her know that you want to be able to get adequate pain relief. Keep an eye on hubby and watch for signs that he is hurting long after he should not be. Like depression, taking a long time to get out of the bed, chair, or preferring to stay home when you go out to the park or whatever. etc. or if he actually tells you lol. I know mine wouldn't MEN..LOL!

I wish you and him all the best and I will be praying for a speedy and pain free recovery. Please keep us informed of his progress. I would love to find out how this goes for him.

You are still in my prayers.
I hope you don't have to listen to too much unnecesary complaining.
Just remember that he can't help that he is a man and they can be big babies!!!
Give him lots of hugs and kisses and tell him how much it hurts you to hear him in so much pain.
Maybe that will help him to shut it up for a while!!!
I do hope he has an easy and fast recovery.

I have had the surgery myself minus the titanium plate at the C6-C7 level and I never had pain I was just falling a lot and having electrical shocks down my neck and back and arms before they did the surgery. I wont have it again because the recovery for me took over a year due to my autoimmune disorders and I was in a lot of pain and I have lost some range of motion. He knows what to expect recovery-wise from my having the surgery and I reminded him I had a 4 yr old who was not potty trained home most of the time because I couldn't drive him to daycare and my daycare provider didnt have a reliable car to come get him, Grammie was working and not always able to get him either and the neighbros were all working so I Was stuck caring for him and that I am not going to wait on him hand and foot.

Because he is a smoker bone ha a longer time to heal so he has a bone stimulator he has to wear 4 hours a day, I am hoping this will stop him from smoking now.

Some of my neighbors are awesome but others I wish I could shoot them they drive me crazy with their antics but for the few who are awesome they make up for the bad ones.

DH is home and snoring on the couch and I am hungry I better eat some lunch now and get off the PC.
