Angry I can't STAND Barbara Walters

I have never liked her.

I think she is so fake and condescending that she makes me cringe.

The View today was unbearable with her constant, shameless promotion of her book. And they're going to do a MONTH long "series on her poignant memoir" -- are you kidding me???

IMO, she was wrong to write about her affair with the senator -- why hurt his wife and family What possible good could come from talking about the affair now?

Some secrets should be taken to the grave.

I don't love her but I don't hate her. I think her book would be interesting but I wouldn't ant to see every moment of the view talking about it. I don't think there is anything wrong with her talking about her affair (s)...it's her memoir and that's a part of her life. If he didn't want his family hurt, he should have never had the affair to begin with

I agree with Smurf, couldn't have said it better myself.

However, I do feel that if I was in Babba Wawaa's shoes, and I owned a talk show, then wrote a book, you would bet that I would be shamelessly promoting it every chance I got... LOL

Except that his family IS being hurt and they don't deserve that: I don't care about him being hurt.

I think I find it especially disgusting because she said on The View this morning that she would not have written the book while "her" family was still alive (her parents and sister have all passed) because she wouldn't want them to be hurt. So, it's okay for his family to be hurt by her revelations but not her family

That is pretty hypocritical of her. If she just had to write about it, couldn't she have not named names?

Didn't she call the Senator, prior to it being published? And didn't he give her permission to reveal their affair? I might be wrong, but I think I remember hearing that on one of the shows she was on promoting the book.

I am not a fan of hers, but I am interested in reading her book....she has lived a very fascinating life, and I think it took a lot of courage to write about her deep and darkest secrets. I know that I would never want to write about my mistakes, let alone take it on a book tour.

Barbara has said that she wrote the Senator to tell him that she was writing about their affair in her book.

I think it is awful to write about this affair. I think it is just to sell more books. I agree with the poster about how she talked today about not hurting her family too bad she doesn't have the same respect for the senator family.

Even if she did, and even if he had said yes, that wasn't enough, IMHO.

She didn't seek permission from his family members, to my knowledge.

They're the ONLY ones whose feelings mattered. Barbara took care of herself, her family (by waiting until they had all passed) and, if she DID consult w/senator first, then him.

Really shabby.

So Barbara Walters is promoting her book for an entire month on The View. Wonder if she'll get dissed like Star Jones did when she promoted her wedding?

As for the affair, I thought the Senator was divorced from that wife. I thought I had read it somewhere. Obviously Barbara didn't care what the Senator's family thought. I've always thought she put herself above others, too.

I might believe that she called him to give him a "heads up" on the book. I don't believe that he would give "permission" for her to tell the world that he cheated on his wife for two years.

My question is simply this: what possible good could come of revealing this affair -- who does it help?

I like what Star Jones had to say:
"It is a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters in the sunset of her life is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer, humiliating an innocent family with accounts of her illicit affair and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book. It speaks to her true character."

Lets remember she had the affair in the first place, she has a history of not caring for his families feelings. But I do think it still will be an interesting read.

I have to say that I am very disappointed in her behavior. I would have never expected her to be so willing to hurt an innocent family. Whatever did or did not happen, some things are better left between the two people involved...not the entire world!

I agree with smurf and god I'll never read the book, but I'm sure many will and she'll do well with it.

I got the book from the library today. I skipped the first couple of chapters as she started back in the 1930s and I don't care about that far back at least when it pertains to her.

She drives me crazy but I'm curious as to what she has to say about some of the celebrities. I would not read the book if I had to pay for it.

She is such a condescending witch to others around her. Yuk.

I remember growing up I thought she was like royalty. When her specials came on we were all glued to the tube. I can't help but wonder why the heck she is doing this now! I did read that the senator is divorced from the wife he had at that time, but still, decent is decent!!People continually amaze me!!!

WOW! Perfectly said. I don't care for BW, can't stand The View and won't be reading the book. I almost fell off my chair the other night when DH said he wants to read it. I asked what the heck was wrong with him (not really) -- turns out Imus has been talking about how good the book is on his show -- DH loves Imus -- if he weren't so stinkin' ugly, I might be jealous. Anyway, I'm sure I'll be hearing all about it if DH ever follows through with his threat to read it. I couldn't care less about what BW has to say.
