What to wear to high school graduation?

Just curious as I haven't attended one since my own! My DS is the oldest in the family tree.

Is nice slacks and top OK? Or is a dress appropriate? I can do either, doesn't matter...just not sure.

For what its worth, because my son goes to a Catholic high school, this is a baccalaureate and commencement exercises and is held on a Sunday morning.....would that change your answer?

Course since my mom will be coming up from NC, I'm pretty sure she'll tell me what to wear...LOL....once a mom, always a mom.

TIA,

I think slacks and a nice top would be fine...it would probably be too hot to wear a blazer or sweater, but you might want to put one on standby in case the weather is bad.
I pulled out MY Ds's grad pics, I am wearing a pink blouse, and a long khaki skirt. DS wore a suit under his robes. We went out to dinner that night but had his party on a different day, so we were none too fancy (plus, it was so durned crowded, no one noticed what I was wearing. I have dresses and suits, but I think they would have been "too much", considering the crowd, and the weather (it threatened rain, and they moved it from the football stadium to the auditorium)...very crowded. One kid wrote in white chalk on top of his hat "THANKS DAD!"...I thought that was awesome!

I think you'll be fine in the pants and a nice blouse/sweater. My oldest dd graduated in '06 and I wore a skirt & sweater, but most seemed to have on pants. The two youngest graduate on 5/31 and I'll probably wear black slacks and a nice top. The focus is mostly on the kids, they don't pay too much attention to what *we* are wearing.

I teach in a public high school and attend graduation every year. I see everything from soup to nuts.
People wear shorts, worn out jeans, ball caps, fancy dresses, suits....

Personally, I think you should *look nice*. Pants and a nice top should be fine. I do think your situation is a little different in that it's a private school, and on a Sunday morning. Hopefully, you won't see the shorts, worn out jeans, and ball caps!

I refuse to wear nuts....I save those for very special occasions.....LOL...

Thanks for input! I do think I need to look nice....especially given the baccalaureate part.....and I prefer to wear pants...maybe I'm looking for some ammunition in case my Mom insists that I wear a dress.

I think pants and a nice top will be fine! Yes, I think it does matter where the ceremony is being held as to what you wear. The last high school graduation I went to a couple of years ago I just wore capris and a t-shirt as it was 90+ degrees and the place had NO air conditioing it was a high school gym. I think I wore about the same to DH's college graduation which was outside in a football stadium also hot outside. At those 2 events it was an anything goes type of wear from shorts to people dressed up.
