What type of car would you buy?

I am going to look for a new car soon and I wanted to know what type of car you would look for? I currently drive a ford escape. I don't think I could ever drive a small non SUV car anymore - I feel like I sit on the road. I need to do some research on better gas mileage cars so I figured I would start here.

What type of car would you buy and why?

I've been looking at the Acura MDXs. They are awesome with a lot of leg room. They get 15 city/20 highway, which I wish was higher, but is a lot higher than a lot of other SUVs. I also like the Lexus SUV - can't remember the model numbers though.

Sorry, This doesn't help you at all but I am wondering how you like your Escape?
I am considering an Escape Hybrid for my next vehicle and I would love opinions of people who have them.
Thanks!

I just bought a 2009 Dodge Journey, it's a new crossover from Dodge. I love it! Gets 19+ mpg around town and is supposed to get 25+ on the highway (we were supposed to test that theory this past weekend but never went out of town like planned).

I would consider a Toyota Camry Hybrid.

I'm in the same boat as the OP, tho, and feel like anything other than an SUV and you are sitting on the street.

I get about 17mpg in my car, and it's paid for, so we're not doing anything......yet. DH's truck.....ACKKKK at the gas pump, but, we're still not doing anything about that one either. It gets better gas mileage than the boat AND the plane, so I guess we'll just be grateful.

I have a 4 wd, but bought a Honda last month to zip around town in. I love the 6 speed V6 engine! Gas mileage is good, and looks sharp too. I use the 4wd for work, and hauling.

If you're taking the price of gas into account, purchasing a Chrysler/Dodge/ or Jeep might help. I just read in today's paper, if you buy or lease one of these cars you can lock in a 3 yr. gas supply at $2.99 a gallon. I'm not sure of the details and I hope these gas prices don't last that long, but maybe it can help you. Good Luck and have fun purchasing your car.
PS
Don't forget, you can usually negotiate for a better interest rate % and always negotiate the price on the extended warranty. You'd be surprised how over-priced they are

I have a Honda Pilot that I absolutely love! It gets about 24-27mpg. I love it. Seats 8, what I really love is that you can put the seats up or down in any configuration. I had them all down and brought home an outside door in this (there is that much room) and then I put them all up and there is room for all 6 of my family.

That being said, I just bought a Ford Focus 2 weeks ago for errands and zipping around town when it is just me or 1 or 2 of the kids. (2 don't live at home now but we frequently do things together as a family) and that is getting close to 40mpg.

Check out the Pilot. Excellent vehicle. I will never get rid of it I love it that much.

My husband and mother both have Sonatas, and like them a lot. When my grandmother was ill, it was really nice having a car that we could get her in and out of easily, and they are very comfortable. I still prefer tiny cars, because they're cheap to drive, and I like being able to change lanes when I want to. When I drive the ancient SUV I have to be a lot more careful with space, and braking.

my dream car right now is a diesel mercedes R-class or maybe a diesel jeep.

Diesels get great mileage and you can use bio-diesel. They also last forever and I like to drive my cars until the engines fall out.

My mom had an MDX which is nice but I'm not sure I would buy one. I like my Dodge Magnum V8 (which gets 18-25 MPG). For a V8, it's very efficient and has the get up and go I need. I know my parents also love their mini Cooper Good luck in your decision

I really like my escape. It is comfortable for me and both of my kids and has a pretty good size back storage area. It's a little small for my husband (he's 6'4, 280) but he can drive it if he has to. It drives very nice and I'm almost at 100,000 and really haven't had any problems other than brakes and a battery (probably just jinxed myself!)

I'm just ready for something different. We've always bought Fords in the past so I wanted to look at my other options and I need to find great gas mileage.
