Prayer Request, DD Having Surgery Tomorrow..

My daughter is having surgery on her knee in the morning. She's having her PCL and ACL repaired , along with a meniscus tear. It started 3 years ago with a wreck on a dirtbike, then continued over time because she's an avid softball player. It's going to be along surgery, 3 - 4 hours, and you would think that I would be ok seeing that I am a Recovery Room Nurse. But sometimes a little knowledge is too much, knowing what can go wrong etc., so yall please say a little prayer for her!! I will update Thursday, I will be spending the night at the hospital with her tomorrow night. I just want it to be over!!

Prayer said! I'm sure she will be fine! You are right about knowing too much sometimes. Maybe this is a time where the old saying "ignorance is bliss" would be better!! Good luck!!!

I'll be praying for your DD's successful surgery and quick recovery, ballmom. I know it's what moms do.... but, try not to fret over it too much.

Good luck with the surgery. DH had the ACL reconstructed and the meniscus tear repaired last October. He had it done as an out-patient- they tossed us out of there as soon as he was awake!!!! I remember three dyas of icing every 2 hours or so. He was pretty disabled for that first week. Out of work for 6 months after that. Several girls at our high school have had this surgery and seemed to have bounced back alot quicker than my poor DH. BTW, how did you choose to have the ACL repaired- cadaver donor or hamstring graft?

Oh Ballmom!

Prayers for DD as well as for you.

If I could, I'd give you my "Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul" book - little stories to TRY to distract you while you're waiting.

I know you'll all feel better when it's over! Please update us when you can.
D

Thank you all for all of the prayers!! We are home now, I feel like I could kiss the floor! She has been in alot of pain. She will be on Oxycontin and Lortab for the first 3 days , then just Lortab. They used a cadaver graft by the way, which freaks me out to think about it. She is really hurting though, it's hard to watch. Hopefully it will get better as the days go by. Thanks again!!

Thank you Shirley. She had such a bad night last night that one of our anesthesiologist offered to do a nerve block on her today , gratis!! I was oh so thankful!! So thank God we are having a better night. I worked 13 hours today, came home, got DD in the bath, removed her bandages, rewrapped them, got her dressed, doped up, and back on the couch. Then bathed precious baby boy, gave him a bottle and put him to bed. OMG,, I couldn't grab the bottle of wine quick enough!! Then have to be back at work at 7 am tomorrow. How pathetic is it when you go to work to rest?? Man, this can't be over quick enough!!

Glad your daughter is on the mend. I hope you get some rest soon.

Don't let the cadaver graft freak you out too much. I have a cadaver bone in my upper arm. I think of it this way. Someone was generous enough to donate their bone so that I could keep my arm. It must have been a very kind person and in a way, he or she lives on in my body. I hope that the person's family is taking some solace in knowing that.

My DH had the nerve block prior to his surgery, so he had very little post-op pain. However, his leg was totally numb for the first day or two, then very slowly 'came back'. He still has residual numbness to this day. We are not sure if it was nerve damage from the block, or from when some of the nerves were cut during sugery. DH hated the feeling of being an amputee for the first few days, and it made mobility a very serious issue. I understand that his reaction was not typical, so I hope your DD's nerve block goes much better.
