Well DH got into Hotwater at the Drs today

Yep I ratted him out big-time for the smoking, trying to be superman and being a pest in general.

They removed the steri-strips from his neck and the incision seems to be healing pretty good.

DH has been breaking out from the collar, so they say he has a latex allergy and they ordered a new collar called a Miami J one that they were supposed to send him home from the hospital with. Cost $159 yikes !!!

He says because of the smoking he is going to take longer to heal and he ratted him out big-time to a program at the hospital for smokers to stop and its free. He has COPD and he just wont quit I have threatened bodily harm to him more than once since he got out of the hospital and even before that.

He was told no trying to be superman, but he is letting him mow the lawn and only ours none of his regular customers.

He says it maybe September before he is ready to go to work anywhere. I think I am going to relentlessly pursue trying to get him into a local program for either Computers, Pharmacy Tech or Radiology Tech I am sure we would qualify for finacial aid.

Me I cant be home with him all these months he is driving me nuts so I am going to try to cash in my Ticket to work with Social Security and get a job. If I cash it in it protects my benefits for 36 months so I don't lose them, only thing is I cant find my super-terrific resume I did back in 1998 so I can update it. I have to start over from scratch it was a "Functional Resume" at least thats what the employment agency told me way back then.

DH goes back in a month and has to have x-rays he wont have any insurance to cover them, do you all think I could work a deal with the radiology place to discount the fees if we pay cash immediately?

I am enjoying harassing DH tonight about the smoking because the Hospital called him about the program already.

no amount of harassment is going to get your DH to quit (and never start again) until HE decides that quitting is a necessity for him

Yeah - I hate to tell you this, but when I was a smoker, the more people tried to get me to quit, the less likely I was to do it. I finally quit when I decided to do it.

He really needs to take better care of his neck. I had neck surgery ten years ago. My neurosurgeon told me I'd be out of work for 4-6 weeks. I still had severe pain after the surgery and they did another MRI and found the disk had already buldged and was on the verge of rupturing again (which now it has). It was deemed a failed surgery. Please tell him to quit trying to be 'superman'. I wish I had my health back and would give anything to feel like I did before the pain and the surgery. He has the opportunity to be pain-free -- overdoing it and doing too much could put him out of work permanently. Plus the smoking will cause the healing process to be much slower.

Nagging someone to quit smoking is useless.
Smoking is like alcohol. The person has to have the desire to quit to be successful in quitting.

I smoked for 50 some years. In the last several years I did try quitting. I used every smoking aid known to man but none of them were helpful to me. I even used the strongset patch and took Zyban at the same time. And continued smoking all the while.

Last year I heard of something new that was out. It is another prescription pill, but it was said that this one reall worked. So I thought "ok, we'll give this one a try". Buy this time I knew I really NEEDED to quit.
THe new "miracle pill" is call Chantix. And to me it really is a "miracle pill". It took me much longer taking the pill than it was supposed to but I continued taking them and THEY DO WORK. My last cigarette was May 24 of 2007.
Sunday will be my 1 year anniversary of being smoke free.
THANK YOU CHANTIX.

Not sure about being able to negotiate the prices with the xrays, but it would definitely be worth a try.

It sounds as though the healing process is going nicely with your DH, which is great news.

Good luck with putting your resume together. I had to do the same thing a few years ago, and actually it turned out a lot better than the original one.

Hugs to you for surviving all these obstacles in your lives right now. Keep up the positive outlook!

Barb~ CONGRATS ON ONE YEAR SMOKEFREE !!! DH is on or was on Chantix and still was smoking on it !!! Tried to get him in to get a new RX for it but he wont have it when he ends up on oxygen and has to drag a tank around maybe he will quit, but I doubt it the rules still stand no smoking in the house DS and I both have asthma and DS is allergic to cigarette smoke you would think he would stop for him but he wont.

I hate to tell you this, but unless you really really want to quit you simply can't do it no matter what you try. With the chantix you can smoke up until a certain time so maybe thats why he was still smoking with it? My mother has COPD, emphesemia and asthma she landed herself in the hospital year after year due to phnmonia this last time she got it bad and she knew she had to quit or she would die. She was very ready to and hasn't smoked now for 2 months. She tried many times before, but deep down she wasn't ready and it didn't sink in till the last time she was at the hospital and knew how sick she was. You will only be successful if you want to.
