Tornado!

Tornadoes rip through Colorado, Wyoming; 1 killed - USATODAY.com

Please keep the families affected in your thoughts. we don't have tornados here often. I've lived here 13 years and never had we had one near me. This hit about 8 miles from us. We know lots of people in the area but haven't heard from all of them. Power is out and phone lines are down....

We're waiting to hear from our son in Arvada CO, it seems he wasn't affected by any of the Tornadoes in CO, but knowing how much of a drama queen he is he will tell us he saw everything and how awful it was thinking we havent read or heard about it he loves attention and loves to tell lies and stories.

I have family in Aurora anyone know how close this was to them?

I tell you we have had some humdingers all over this year, we had a tornado 30 miles south of us 2 weeks ago missed FIL and BIL's by about 1/2 a mile. We're having a tax free week so we can stock up on hurricane supplies, we havent had a bad one since Isabelle (sp?) in 2003 (?) but I do think we'll stock up on the items we can get tax-free. I will keep everyone in the areas affected by the watches and warnings in my thoughts and prayers, our weatherman says there will be a lot fo tornadoes tonight in the tornado belt.

Arvada is down by Denver and this happened a good 50 miles North. It started in Greeley and went thru Windsor which is just east of Fort Collins. Denver did get rain and maybe hail. They skies are just scary! We are still under *watch* til 9 tonight

We actually had two touch down just a few miles from us in *get this* Riverside, CA. Hubby was on the 215 when they hit but thankfully he didn't encounter them. Everyone was diverted off the highway. We saw a funnel cloud starting and it looked like it was twisting like a snail's shell; it went away as quickly as it started though.

Here's the link and pic. abc7.com: Tornadoes and funnel clouds spotted in Riverside County 5/22/08

And more pics abc7.com: Snow falls in the San Bernardino Mountains

Very unusual.

Thankfully, nothing like the horrible tornados hitting in CO. I hope everyone stays safe over there!

Riverside? I was born and raised there! Moved here in 1992 after I graduated high school. I can't believe you had one touch down there. Glad your hubby didn't encounter them!

I was born in Riverside in 1964 while my dad was in college at Riverside Community College... moved from there when I was two. I hear it's changed. Ha ha. Small world.

I am amazed at the unusual places where these tornadoes are hitting. I've seen a few video clips and they are terrible.

My thoughts are with you all.

I too live near here, about 20 min. It was a trip to hear that we were on tornado watch. It made me think about the movie The Day After Tomorrow. Lake Elsinore also had some tornadoes near where I used to live.
