Is there a way to fix a cracked toenail?

I know this sounds like a really stupid question but it is driving me insane. I stubbed the heck out of my middle toe a few months ago and nothing I try to do will keep it from splitting. I've cut it really, really short, tried multiple nail polishes and clear topcoats. Nothing seems to work for me. I guess I just want to have pretty feet for summer.

And this may be a really stupid answer but what about a drop or 2 of super glue.

Use some nail glue. I've used it when my fingernails split. Or as previously suggested, Super glue would work too.

Ouch. I never had this happen to my toenail, but I had it happen to my fingernail. I slammed it in the door of my Pathfinder a few years ago. The nail split...finally I just had to kind of pull it off as gross as it may sound and start fresh. The nail never did grow back "normal". There are ridges in it. I would maybe use the glue on the split, then get one of those fake toenails to glue over it. I did both of my feet once with those nails and they really looked great. The only nail glue that I would use is Nailene in the purple and white little bottle. That stuff will keep them on forever. ~Lisa

Beauty supply stores sell various wraps that are meant for weak nails. Honestly, I'd drop into one and ask for advice.

I had this happen to me - Here's what I did: Went to my nail place and had the nail wrapped. After a while, it will grow back to "normal"
Just be sure to keep up with the fill ins every few weeks (or whenever you do your pedicures)

Thank you so much for everyone's responses !!! Ana21, I had to laugh at your answer. Super/nail glue is something I never would have thought of to be honest, lol. I've super glued cuts in my fingers before, but never thought about this.

I've never done this before, but definitely looking into it. Was there a certain brand of fake nails you bought? The only time I've done the press on type nails was back in high school for prom and that has been a long time ago.

I remember I used to read a lot of my mom's old "Woman's Weekly" magazines - they come out of England.

Years ago, in the beauty advice column, they recommended placing a piece of tea bag over the break in the nail. then polishing.

Not sure that's still the recommendation they'd give, but it's worth a shot...

Good luck!

I have a split in the middle of my big toe toe nail. It has been like that for years. It doesn't bother me, just looks like a little line down the middle of my toenail.

I ususally just buy the cheapest set...the one on sale. I haven't noticed much of a difference in the nails, but it's the glue that you use that is important. I throw away the glue that comes with the nails and only use the NAILENE glue in the purple/white bottle. You can purchase it separately. I like the Revlon toenails. My toenails are small and just won't seem to grow. I need smaller nails. Some of them are very large. I only used them a few times last summer and they looked nice. My best friend gets pedicures all the time and when I noticed how pretty her toenails looked, I opted for the fake nails. I'm wondering now if her toenails are acrylic? Do nail salons put on fake toenails? I would never go that route, but now I'm curious. Just be sure if you use them to keep them clean. Pop them off after a week or so and change them. You don't want to get some kind of nasty fungus infection! Yesterday I googled artificial toenails and came up with some interesting articles. Here's one of them:
Fake nails moving from hands to feet — JSCMS
Heck, now I'm noticing how ugly my toenails look...they are so short and small. Time for me to hit Rite Aid or Walgreens and get me some fake toenails! I like the shorter, french manicure looking ones. ~Lisa

Avon sells stick on nail polish for your hands and feet. My representative said she wore her toenail polish for two weeks going barefoot and bathed everyday and they didn't come off until she peeled it off. She also has a 6 hr a day job so the polish was put to the test. Barefoot, bathing and in shoes walking for at least 6 hrs a day for two weeks.

If you injured the nailbed and the nail is split from the base of the nail upwards, then you are doomed. I wore a new pair of shoes on Easter to the Toll House Restaurant in MA when I was 7 or 8- ended up with a huge blister, lost the toenail, and it has grown in two separate pieces ever since.....and I am older than dirt. So- if the bed is not damaged, the nail will eventually grow out and become one.

I have fixed a broken toenail with a silk wrap kit you can buy at WM for about 5 bucks..I like getting pedicures and keeping my feet looking good through the summer, but I always seem to injure something or other by dropping something on my toe or stubbing it.
The wrap is a little piece of silk, you cut to fit what you need, place it on the break, coat with the stuff in the bottle then spray with the spray stuff. Then I use the rough side of the nail buffer block to "sand" it smooth, add base coat, two of color and a top coat. Works like a charm, and I have had the same "kit" for three years or so, no sign of drying out

The old super-glue trick worked for me. I also used the glue that came with the "do it yourself" acrylic nail stuff from Sally's.
