What are you reading now?

I just finished The hollow by Nora Roberts. It was Book 2 of 3 in the Sign of Seven trilogy. It was a great book as was the first one Blood Brothers. I have over 100 books on my bookshelf to choose from for the next book. I am thinking I will read a Jane Feather book next. I like hers a lot.

So what are you reading right now?

I hit the mother lode in the library the other day on new releases, so I have a stack of light reading on my nightstand. Mary Higgins Clark, James Patterson, Janet Evanovich. I may just spend tomorrow reading by the pool!

I'm just about to start The Sisters Mortland by Sally Beauman. Just recently finished Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. I'm reading The Lives They Left Behind: Suitcases From A State Hospital Attic by Darby Penney and Peter Stastny. It's nonfiction and very sad.

I just cracked open Book of the Dead by Patricia Cornwell last night. I also have James Patterson's 7th Heaven to read when I'm done with Patricia's. Just finished the series Maxiumum Ride by James Patterson, waiting on the last book from the library. Also read As the Wind Blows by James Patterson just recently. Great Author.

This past week I read "The Lecture" by Randy Pausch, and "Remember Me?" and "Can You Keep A Secret" by Sophie Kinsella. I would recommend all of them. The Kinsella books are a great summer read. The Lecture is by a professor who is dying and has a young family - true story.

Donna here again -

I forgot to say that did you know James Patterson has a new book out called "Sundays at Tiffanys". He also has 2 more coming out very soon called " The Dangerous Days of Daniel X" and "Sail".

Janet Evanovich has a new book "Fearless Fourteen" coming out in June.

Put your reservations for them in at your library!! I already have.

Actually on Tuesday I have a job interview for a different position at the library (where I work)-- working with children. I'm a little nervous about the interview. Wish me luck!!

Smiles,

Donna

Currently reading A Wolf at the Table bu Augusten Burroughs. I've read all of his other work, Running with Scissors by far one of the most interesting books I've read. That book made my family look like the Cleavers! LOL

I have the new one by Jennifer Weiner, Some Girls but have yet to make it to that one.

I cant wait for the new Evanovich one!

I am going to have to check out some of the books everyone else is reading!

Donna - Good luck on the interview, sounds exciting!

Leeleegirl,
I haven't read Running With Scissors yet but it's on my list. I did read his brother's book: Look Me In The Eye: My Life With Asperger's. That was a good book - a little slow at first and then it picked up - if I remember right. I'd recommend it.

Another book that I read recently was Barbara Walter's book: Audition. It was ok. Dull in parts. I skipped the parts that didn't interest me. I wouldn't buy this book. If it interests you, get it from the library.

I'm next on the list to get Certain Girls. I hope it's good!!

Thanks for the John Adams review...I have been dying to read this.
I just finished "Mayflower"" by Nathaniel Philbrick, and was laughing out loud when my mom's slightly obnoxious boyfriend was bragging about his family "coming over on the Mayflower" I suggested he read the book (non fiction) because not every one was a religious pilgrim

Bobswife,

Did you know that Marley and Me is being made into a movie? I can't remember who plays the main character right now, but I hope the movie is as good as the book.

By the way, you CAN"T be Bobswife -- cause I am!!!!

Just finished reading the Book of the Dead by Patricia Cronwell. When I first started reading her, I was sooo consumed by the Kaye Scarpetta series, but the last two were just non hits in my opinion and this one wasn't much better. I guess I liked the old ones b/c she was stationed in Tidewater and I could relate b/c I knew every place she was talking about.

Will probably wait until tomorrow night to start reading James Patterson. Thanks for the information on his new books, I'm on the library website now putting in my request

Donna,

Everyone needs a little bit of Bob in their life!

Marley and Me movie? I am not sure that I can go without crying my eyes out. I have never read a book that made me laugh and cry at the same time like this one did. Ironically, we were on the way to visit our "bad dog" that we had to relocate to our aunt's farm because he got a little territorial making our neighbors nervous. He still loves us, but really loves his new digs on the farm.

I just finished 19 minutes by Jodi Picoult. It is a really intense book and I am now looking for a light and funny book to read. I wish David Sedaris had a book I did not read, his books are always funny as well as Augusten Burroughs's books. I will be watching this thread for a book that it a nice easy read. I picked up 19 minuets in a airport knowing nothing of it. I told my son yesterday what the book is about, a high school shooting. He asked if I was crazy because him and his sister are in high school and it will just make me worry....thoughtful of him, lol. This book does make you think.

Nothing of redeeming value...at the used book store the other day I picked up a fat book of "you might be a Redneck" jokes. I was reading it just before I went to sleep. Then I dreamed my 24 DD was running around with Brittany Spears.

Hmmm guess I shouldn't read Redneck books at bedtime...LOL

I just finished Michelle Richmond's "The Year of Fog" last week. It was my first time reading one of her books and I truly loved it....I had to make myself put it down otherwise I might have read it all in one day. Lately I have been rediscovering how much I love reading a good book I am developing quite the list that I would like to dive into...anyone know a good source for cheap books?

(Getting into our local library is ridiculously difficult. They require two forms of ID with a local address ( we just moved here and haven't gotten new ID'S yet) and two written references from a current member....none of our friends have library memberships ...so we've given up on that one for now....but it is a public library it shouldn't be so difficult!)

Wow, ShySharlet, where do you live? I can see the two forms of ID, but references from friends???!!!! You pay taxes, and your library is paid for with taxes.

For the ID at our library, we can use a drivers license even from another state, and then we have people bring in a rental agreement, or a phone bill, utility bill - or some official mail or legal agreement - a bank statement - a paycheck stubb that has your new address. I have never heard of the reference thing before. That just doesn't sound right. I should also say that I work at the public library.

You might want to get your drivers license updated though, as if you got pulled over for a traffice violation, that might get you in trouble.

Brenda, I really liked the book 90 Minutes in Heaven too. That author has another book out now too, but I can't think of what the name of it is.

References?? Is that even legal? Public means it should be accessible to everyone living within the town.

I just finished "Desert Wives" by Betty Webb (I think that is how her name is spelled). Someone had posted this book when the whole polygamy thing was going on. I checked it out and it was pretty good and insightful into the ways of polygamist communities. Now, it was fiction, but I think that the author did some investigating into the different compounds. I like to read all sorts of things and I thought it was really good.

Thanks for all of the reading suggestions, I'll check them out.

Oh, for the dog lovers, Amaging Gracie, is a great book about dogs (Great Dane), but will make you cry.

I suggested Betty Webb's "Desert Wives" and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I was shocked to read about all the babies born into the sect with birth defects as I had never heard that before. She has other books featuring the same character but "Desert Wives" was my favorite.

Just picked up Robert Fate's 3rd Baby Shark book "Baby Shark's High Plains Redemption". I love, love, love this series.

I just finished " Good In Bed" by Jennifer Weiner. Excellent funny summer read. I didn't want the book to end. I believe that she wrote a sequel to the book too. She has a couple of other books out too, so when I go to work (at the library) I will be finding them!

She currently has "Certain Girls" on the bestseller list. I'm on the library list for that all ready.

Oh for sure about the license I'll be getting a new one soon I just haven't gotten around to it. Fortunately we live in a fairly small town in maine. They're pretty easy going as far as ID as long as it's the right state. I actually just registed my car last week and the clerk didn't ask for any identification at all...I had to write my license number on the check but she didn't even look at my ID when I offered. You'd think they would be more particular than the library.

....But at the same time small towns,,,at least here in maine.... like to make up ridiculous rules and no one really ever fights them on it I guess. We thought It was pretty crazy too...making it so hard when it's a public library. And yes we pay taxes. I called when we first moved here and They were pretty clear about their requirements. I wish all they wanted was a piece of mail (like a bill) with our name and address we get plenty of those .
