Favorite Shel Silverstein books?

Do (or did) your kids like these books? My oldest (8yo) got 2 last Christmas from a friend and she reads and re-reads them constantly. I bought her another one the beginning of the year and that also has been read several times. This past weekend my little one (6yo) started reading one and she absolutely loved it! So today I ordered them a couple more. Any recommendations on the better ones or are they all good reading? I have a feeling we'll eventually own the entire Shel Silverstein library. But that's ok, as long as my girls are reading and enjoying what they are reading I'm ahead.

All of them...

I still have my copies when I was a kid, and now I give a copy of "Where the Sidewalk Ends" at every baby shower I attend.

You can't go wrong with anything by Shel.

The Giving Tree makes me cry.

All of them are wonderful. The Giving Tree and The Missing Piece (I think that's the title) are beautiful stories.

A Giraffe and a Half is a silly rhyming story. My girls all still love it.

I think most of the others are collections of his poems and drawings.

There was one that was completed after he died by his family - I can't remember the name. But I thought that was a nice tribute.

Cool, looks like I can't go wrong with any of them. I ordered A Giraffe and a Half and Uncle Shelby's Story of Lafcadio today. I think my fave so far is Runny Babbit. Just trying to get the words out makes me giggle!

Fun website!

I also love "The Giving Tree" as my personal favorite... We have "Where the Sidewalk Ends" on CD and it's great fun -- he reads the poetry out loud much better than I do! I carry it in my sub supply bag for when I'm working in the elementary school. The kids really seem to enjoy it!
