I Was Rammed In The Rear By A 17 Yr Old...

and that is NOT as pleasant as it sounds.

I was turning into Walgreen's to get my Free $10 with $30 spent and he rear ended me!

Sugar snap! My 2007 Escape I've only had for less than a yr and a half it's not paid for yet and I will not have another new car for quite a few years so I was mad. I did not curse him I yelled at him though "you weren't paying attention that's why kids shouldn't have their licenses until they're 20"

I later apologized. He's a very nice young man and not on anything. He said his parents are in Cancun and they are going to kill him. I told him to talk to his grandparents and not to ruin the last few days of their vacation.

I also told him that he's lucky neither me nor my dog were hurt (she's in the cargo compartment behind a dog gate) and I told him God makes things like this happen to avoid worse things. Now he will be paying attention to his driving if it had not happened today maybe tomorrow he would have killed a child on a bicycle.

He is very sorry and both cars are extensively damaged. At least I'll get an insurance check right? And I still went into Walgreen's and used my coupon after all it's today only!

Anna, I'm sorry about your car, but your title and first few sentences were HILARIOUS!

Glad to hear you are ok---surprised to hear that both cars were so damaged in a parking lot. I hope he learns a lesson; sorry you had to be the one to give it to him.

No matter how nice a kid he is, even a small car accident should be scary, and upsetting to the person who caused it. I don't say that to be sadistic, it's just a LOT better to learn by destroying a couple of bumpers than by hurting people.

I would not be so sure about getting an insurance check. My dd had her first accident. She is 25 and has been driving for 7 years. She was in the middle lane of a 3 lane divided street. She said she slowed down and stopped because a cement truck was pulling out of the 7/11 parking lot. Other cars were doing the same. Well, a guy didn't slow down and tried to get around her and hit her in the rear. First he told her he was sorry. When she call the police, he told them that she was the one moving and she cut him off. He had the kind of insurance that you get when you have multiple accidents. In Maryland, if noone comes forward to be a witness, it is no fault and each person pays their own deductable. So we had to pay $250 deductable and $150 in car rental. We were without the car for almost a month. Our insurance will not go up unless we have another accident in the next year. We have not had an accident in 10 years. We had $4,600 damage on our 2005 Scion which has never had a problem.

I must say that title got my attention!!!
The poster is right about accidents and what insurances cover. I was in my City's Office parking lot and got hit by an employee and even though it was her fault nothing could be done. My car wasn't as banged up as hers so that was nice for me.
Good luck. I hope it turns out that the kids insurance covers it.

My DS got rearended recently (he is 20)...the people that hit him convinced him to not call the police (so now there is no report, and no way of proving he was hit), gave my ds expired insurance info , and the car even belongs to someone else untraceable.
We have not been ab;e to do anything about his crumpled bumper, as we cant provie there was an accident, cant prove these people were involved and finally, because we dont have collision on his car (its a 2001 pontiac grand am) (in our state, you only have to carry liability, and for a young person, if the car is not very valuable, collision can be expensive)
his "coverage for uninsured motorists" covers his medical only. If we had collision, it would have paid for the repair.
I found a body shop willing to fix it for $700, but its not dangerous, only unsightly, and he is in college and working to pay for that, I thought I would make him drive it around a while before we fix it to remind him to call the police when there is an accident.

Sorry to hear about your accident. There are so many crazy drivers around. I'm paranoid when I'm driving in parking lots. I always drive very slowly and watch with eagle eyes for anyone in my path. There are people barreling around the lot, oblivious of pedestrians. I was involved in an accident a few months ago (not my fault) and I know people can lie and accuse you of causing the accident.

OP glad you were not hurt (or your doggie!) I would think you would be covered by either his insurance or your own plan, since you mentioned your car wasn't paid off yet I imagine you have full coverage on it...definitely make a rpt with your insurance if you haven't already done so. The bad thing about accidents on 'private property' like Walgreens, at least everywhere I have ever lived, if it's on private property the police won't issue tickets or state who is at fault in the accident.

I once had someone in a big company van back over my car and practically parked themselves on top of my hood when I was stopped at a drive thru fast food. And their company tried to get out of paying for it in the end, saying 'well he said he beeped his horn before he backed up and drove over your car' ugh! (I did eventually get them to pay when I got a lawyer and we served them notice of a lawsuit they agreed to settle & changed their mind.) But yeah it's crazy what happens sometimes in accidents. Cover yourself by making an insurance rpt with your company.

I hope you get an insurance check! I also hoped the kid got a ticket and cited for the fault of the accident. His insurance will go up and that should get his parents attention and hopefully his to make him a better driver. I am so glad you are okay

PS: I read your title and was thinking...well, you know what I was thinking and so I loved your first line...it made me laugh even louder

Since you were in the Walgreen's parking lot, I guess the police didn't come. If they did, I hope you got a police report. If you got his insurance information, then you should be ok. He hit you in the rear. It's always the fault of the one who rearends someone (i.e., following too close, not paying attention, etc.). His insurance company should be calling you and telling you where to take it for estimates. If you don't hear from his insurance company immediately, I would be calling them. Also call your insurance company just to be on the safe side. Also take pictures of your car. I would have taken pictures of his car, too.

I was rearended a few years ago and it was totally the fault of the girl who hit me. I stopped at a stop sign and she didn't. I didn't have any problems. Her insurance company insurance took care of everything for me.

Glad you weren't hurt!!

One of my grandmothers best friends called the other day and apoligized for not being able to come to my grandfathers funeral because a 17 year old ran into her cousin <he was 60 something I think> and he was killed.

As of july 11, it will be one year that someone rear ended us when we were headed home from vacation. we had to rent a car to get the last 100 miles home. It was a little town and I am sure we were the talk of the town for a week. a 17 year old in an 85 mustang hit us. He wasn't wearing his seat belt and him and his two friends were crammed in the front seat. It did 9 thousand dollars to our buick. It took two months to fix it and it was never the same. If we are ever in another accident, I told my husband that we will get an accident lawyer. Try to deal with the kids' insurance company was extremely stressful. The woman was very mean and non caring. It is all I can do not to wish bad things against her. I still have neck pain and they truly should have totaled the car. The kid's insurance company was some fly by night place and everything that we got was a fight. All I can say, is get an accident laywer, it will be worth it, they deal with everything and that way you can physically and mentally heal faster.

Well they approved my repairs at my local Ford dealer and I let the insurance man know that although I am not out to get anyone and I am not going to sue for thousands of dollars however I fully intend to be compensated for my inconvenience and the loss of value of my vehicle as this is the first "dent" on it.

He agreed and said it would be no problem. I suspect the parents have something to do with it. From the way this young man looked and spoke his parents must be very responsible people.
Also I am a very convincing person and I usually have no trouble getting my way with companies. Oh and I know the laws and have a big mouth. So if things are not going the right way I let them know in no uncertain terms that I will broadcast information throughout the world for everyone to know how they take advantage of people.
