Come on down! Be prepared, however, for big time humidity! I live on the Northshore, and things are hopping again in the city. My brother and his family came down this week and stayed on St. Charles. The summer is a pretty cheap time to come because tourism is down right now, and the hotels offer pretty good rates. Be prepared for tent cities under I-10 on Canal and a few boarded up buildings here and there. You also have to remember that the Quarter wasn't flooded...most of its damage came from looters and vandals. BTW...the spirit of the city is going strong, and it's still a beautiful and charming place to visit. Think also about renting a car and taking an drive to old town Covington here on the northshore or Oak Alley Plantation in Lutcher (towards Baton Rouge), or just stay downtown and hop on a streetcar going uptown. Don't hestitate...things are on the upswing! :-) --Marilou
And...no, I don't work for the Dept. of Tourism...LOL! I'm just a teacher who is still very proud of the area!

Oh mah lawd,
What I wouldn't give for a whole mufalletta, or a roast beef or oyster po'boy, dressed of course!!! My best friend as a kid growing up, her mother was from Nawlins. I got to tag along on the summer trips-even after I was married w/ kids!!! Her grandma lived two skips and a hop away (literally right around the corner!!) from Franky and Johnny's where the owner's son taught us how to suck head and eat tail-----get your minds out of the gutters girls, I am talking crawdads here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I am not even going to mention the drive through places where you can order liquored-up slurpees to go. G*d bless New Orleans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
