Question Does this sound like an allergy?

My eyes are the size of lemons. Ok, I'm exagerating somewhat....I'm thinking I must be allergic to MAC eyeshadow.

Friday I was out shopping and found the "perfect" shade. Yesterday I used my new eye shadow. By 10pm or so my eyes were swelled a lot. About the size if I had been crying for a long time. I felt like I was just really sleepy, really heavy. This morning they were still about the same. I take a claritin for allergies daily so I figured that would kick in and help some. But it's not helped yet. As a matter of fact they have double from what they were when I woke up. I just took 2 benadryl. One usually knocks me out for a good 12 hours. I took 2 so who knows what will happen. BUT MY EYES HURT!!!

Does it sound like an allergy to you all? The MAC is the only thing out of the ordinary that I used or ate yesterday.

Once when I had an allergic reaction to some eye medication, my eyes swelled up like you describe, but mine were really itchy, not painful. Maybe it could be an infection? In any case, I'd have a doctor look at it. I had to go to an opthamologist weekly for about a month after my incident and mine was just a severe allergic reaction.

For the last two weeks I've taken Zyrtec daily along with Benadryl and Patanol eyedrops. The grass pollen is high. Just when I think it's about to get better it takes a turn for the worse. My eyelids are swollen and itchy.

If you used the make up display at the store.. You could have a eye infection. Even if they used a clean apllicator on you ..those displays harbor alot of germs in them..people are always sticking their fingers into them trying on make up.

I'm allergic to some cosmetics & perfumes... My eyes will start to water a lot when I try something new on that's how I know I will have a problem with it ... I remove it immediately when it happens .I have had swelling like you are describing but it was NOT painful only itchy ..I also have had a delay reaction to foundation ...it took up a week before I broke out. I would have a doctor check it out .

MAC's most notable for having interesting colors, and heavily pigmented shadows. I'd guess you reacted badly to a pigment, but could probably use other colors. I find any black shadow hurts my eyes. And stupid question, but you used a cake shadow, right? They do make some products, mostly powders in little jars, that aren't meant to be used on your eyes.

Geesh now I'm not so sure it was the eye shadow. We rode over for DH to scout out some new camp sites. I figured I'd ride too because I most likely would just be sleeping anyway. We got out at one post and I noticed my sandals were really tight. So now my feet are swollen. So much so my sandals had left imprints.

I tell ya, if it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck. We are suppose to leave on vacation to Florida next Friday night. I most likely will be calling the doc first thing in the morning. I certainly don't want to be miserable on vacation.

Wow, since your feet are swelling, I'd definitely call the doctor. There's something that's not right, for sure. I hope everything clears up before your vacation!!

Let us know what the doctor says (and what he prescribes). Might come in handy for someone else sometime!

It does sound like an allergy and some allergies can be life threatening. I'd head to the doctor because internal organs can swell too and you might need prednisone or something like it. I wouldn't take any chances, especially with my eyes.

What you are describing, could it be you are retaining fluids? I take steroid injections for back pain and what you are describing sounds like what happens to ma occasionally, puffy eyes, but not itchy and swelling in the feet and legs (which I have medication for fluid retention when that happens, which is not all the time). On your legs if you press on you shin bone and the flesh stays indented then you are retaining fluid. When I am not retaining fluid there is nothing to pres into, it is just bone in the shin area.

Thought I would give a quick update. I woke up this mornig perfectly fine. I have no idea what I got into. I know I'll be carrying plenty of benadryl on vacation with me.

Every occasion I attempted to wear Maybelline Great Lash mascara, I would get the swollen eyes. No other mascaras made my eyes itchy, red and swollen. Your guess regarding the eye shadow may be correct. Unfortunately, not all cosmetics are made alike.
