Best way to soothe a sunburn?

The kids and I spent a little too much time outside yesterday and have ended up with horrible sunburns.....I kept checking everyone yesterday, and reapplying the sunscreen, and had everyone put on tshirts, but it didn't work, after baths last night I started noticing everyone was pink and by bedtime, they all looked like lobsters....I have been using noxema and the sunburn products with lidocaine in them, but was wondering if there were any other things I could try............

do you have an aloe plant?? That stuff is the best, it helps heal....
you can buy a plant for a buck or two, and they spread...handy to have and you can repot the babies as gifts (its the one plant I think everyone should have)

Solarcaine or solarcaine with aloe (looks like green goop). Both work great.

I kept aloe with lidocaine (it's blue) in it. It works miracles. Found it at Walmart last summer.

Rub down with White Vinegar. It works wonders. The smell is not great but it instantly takes the sting out. My mom always wiped us down in it when we came home sunburnt.

Another one that is crazy thinking, but just recently happen. My friend's son got a bad sunburn and they recommended using a heating pad...Yes a heating pad. I told my friend she was crazy (he's screaming in the background without the heating pad) and ten minutes later he calls me completely normal. Said that it took the sting away. Brings the heat to the surface. I'm gonna try it the next time me or one of the girls has one.

Motrin, or Aspirin (adults only of course) can take alot of the pain away..
Be sure to use a moisturizer frequently so you don't Peel! Good Luck.

My mom also used to rub us down with white vinegar when we got a sunburn! The smell only lasts a few minutes. Once the vinegar vaporates/soaks into the skin, the smell is gone.

I use original Noxzema in the pump bottle, just keep rubbing in until no more will rub in.

I used shaving cream from the can and it worked wonders and when I was a child my neighbor would hold his cigar next to all the sunburnt kids to take the pain out.

We use the aloe vera gel - I think we have 3 or 4 different bottles and different brands. It seems whenever we go out of town, we remember the sunscreen, but not th aloe. We end up burnt and have to buy a new bottle!

I tried the vinegar, it helped on the not severe places, the really bad burn spots it didn't help much. I also tried the Banana Boat Soothe a Caine. Worked well. On another board I was told in no uncertain terms not to use any type of lotion as it holds in the heat, especiallly Noxzema. We've always used Noxzema as the menthol cools the burn. Not sure what to think now. I also bought the Banana Boat after sun care lotion to use in a couple of days when the worst is over.
